U can get attacks in after his grab, his attacks where he drags his spear, or horizontal slashes that end a combo. The worst part of the entire DLC is where the visual hitboxes are for many enemies, the Boar General is most egregious one I have done...charge is just 1 long rectangle of a hitbox (if you dodge through it too early you get hit because it lingers AND you can be hit again on the ground because the ENTIRE charge is persistent hitbox). Overall, the DLC just needed some more playtesting cause inconsistencies are one of chief complaints for me. Good video though, also very nice video on the Scadutree frags...it helped a ton.
I completely agree. Most of the bosses I’ve fought don’t feel unfair because of the damage they do or how aggressive they are, but some just have janky hitboxes. The only three I would say are truly bad, and Commander Gaius (his pigs hitbox just doesn’t make sense, and if you’re melee you can’t really see much of the pig and what it’s about to do), romina, who I don’t think is bad except for her hitboxes, because sometimes it just does not make sense, and Metyr, who’s easily one of the worst bosses in Elden ring because her attacks genuinely are so poorly telegraphed spare a few of them
I found this issue with Romina, saint of the bud. Her design is good but it has a to much going on I think. Personally I didn't know where to look so I know what to avoid, also when she's close to the wall the fight becomes impossible because she phases through it and you can't see what part she's about to attack with. I think if her arena was wider and her design was fully centipede or scorpion, her boss would be a lot more enjoyable.
@@xaeCarolina1865 My exact point, hitboxes for bosses in the DLC especially are wonky, like some of her "swipes" don't have a hitbox until the 2nd part of the attack string...but the first part looks like an attack but doesn't hit you

Soon as you enter the fog for Mesmer, summon your mimic and and wait till the boss is focused on it (shouldnt take long) Drop the fox tail scarlet rot on him (guaranteed rot on hit buh ig you can use the dragon breath too) and use the stone shield to defend. The boss will rot till 2nd phase. Repeat same process in 2nd phase. Boss gets your mimic's attention, hit him with fox tail rot, defend till he dies. Also you might wanna equip a healing incantation so your mimic can use. It's smart enough to use it on low health lol. Hope this helps. I beat Mesmer in 1 try with this strategy after dying like 10 times to different strategies.
This guy took me so many attempts mostly because he kept targeting me when I wasn’t even attacking him when I had summons attacking him. I had no opportunity to heal
They input read your heals when you do it infront of them in a fight to the death. You gotta wait for him to finish a combo to heal or punish if you have faith you can outroll another one.
My friend and I call this heal punishing. Even if you have a decent distance away from them, the SECOND you press the button to heal yourself they’ll come at you faster. It took about a solid hour worth of attempts to start reading the attack patterns for phase 1. I have the shield that looks like a piece of concrete wall. I don’t even DODGE anymore, I just keep the shield up. The second phase is my kryptonite so far. I don’t know what else to do. Probably one of the most bs boss moves I’ve come across so far.
This was very helpful. I found that I was starting my rolls too late--I was rarely even dodging his openers that I knew were coming. This was by far the hardest boss fight for me, and I killed all bosses in the base game.

I find it odd how people can slow walk behind Messmer during his delayed thrust and he'll completely whiff them, but yet he does a full 180 and snaps to my character and hits me every time. Also for his triple snake attack, it seems random whether it'll hit me. Sometimes he'll completely whiff, but most times even if he barely nicks my character with his neck I get hit. I even dodge in the same exact direction lol. Messmer is a great fight and a lot of this stuff can be worked around, but man does it feel inconsistent.

i beat this boss yesterday after spending two days on him. had to respec out of faith/fire build into bleed. did not know that he was weak to magic or lightning though. i finally beat him with finger print shield + blood greatsword with lions claw (you could use any high bleed weapon like rivers of blood too). the aow makes staggering him easier, especially if you have a mimic to also help with spamming the aow. i knocked him once in both phases. i panic rolled the majority of the first attempts, but the shield helps a lot, even if it’s just on your back. i played on ng+2 on a level 203 character with level 10 scadu tree.
fucking awsome didnt get a no hit but you helped so much with the flurry dodge . no blasphemus blade or summons thats all im going for . thank you for a guide and not a cheese shield respec 😁
I did this on Lvl 153 character on NG+ with Scadutree 11. Setup was full Maliketh cosplay with his Black Blade. Twin Turtle, Greatshield, Pearldrake +3, Old Lord's. Physick was Opaline and Holy Tear. Medium rolling and 43 Vigor. No Great Rune. I would consistently get a stance break in Phase 1 at around 70% of health. This would be a bit more difficult in Phase 2, but still doable. He's honestly so much easier than Rellana or Dancing Lion. The attacks are much easier to read, has very clear extensions on his combos, no annoying AOE, and I don't know of it's just me, but he did not deal that much damage bar his explosion moves. All in all, great boss, and I hope the rest of the bosses will be similar in design.
I’m glad they actually made Messmer a sick and fun boss, there was a decent sum of annoying bosses in this dlc but they managed to do Messmer good thank god
Ah I remember the days when you could dance and react to a boss instead of having to fight him a thousand times to learn his entire move set like a basement dwelling ND
Heres how to win easy basically a cheese. Max out visage shield to +10 and it basically will take all their damage snd you can hit in between and use mimic to handle him while you block a lot. It barely takes any stamina.
4:32 I really struggle with that fire air spin combo. If I instantly roll into him the second I see him start doing the attack and then spam roll back it doesn't hit me. But if I'm even half a second slow at reacting to the attack as he starts it up, he always hits me with the back spin as I'm trying to roll back after rolling in. Does medium roll effect this as I'm medium rolling. Also I'm rl1 with 0 blessings, so it keeps 1 shotting me when I get hit by it. He throws it out alot after obscuring moves such as the fire orb, so by the time I realise he's launching at me it's already too late. Like I said I can always roll the initial lunge by rolling into him, but then when trying to roll back I get it with the back end of his spin. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
If you haven't gotten it yet, use a tank to practice. I'm using a naked lvl 150 tank with 8 blessings to practice for my RL1,+0, no blessing. Being able to survive multiple mistakes gives you more time to actually practice.
This seems pretty complicated... people in here like ya piece of cake... I'm over here feeling pretty over whelmed... victory will be sweet... eventually

I know some guy who throats fromsoftware is gunna say git gud, but that doesn’t work here I’ve platinumed DS’s, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and Sekiro.
This isn’t even fun anymore, Its to the point where you need to be nearly superhuman to beat this shit.
you just need to get good tbh. All this yapping just seems like a massive skill issue.
@captaincs8440he probably beat the boss by now😭tf r u talking about
i beat this boss yesterday after spending two days on him. had to respec out of faith/fire build into bleed. did not know that he was weak to magic or lightning though.
i finally beat him with finger print shield + blood greatsword with lions claw (you could use any high bleed weapon like rivers of blood too). the aow makes staggering him easier, especially if you have a mimic to also help with spamming the aow. i knocked him once in both phases.
i panic rolled the majority of the first attempts, but the shield helps a lot, even if it’s just on your back. i played on ng+2 on a level 203 character with level 10 scadu tree.
fucking awsome didnt get a no hit but you helped so much with the flurry dodge . no blasphemus blade or summons thats all im going for . thank you for a guide and not a cheese shield respec 😁
So as long as I graduate with a PhD in Messmer’s 73 moves, it’s easy? Cool
This guide is basically dex/[faith|int|arcane].
No chad weapon/build is doing anything in those tiny attack windows.
This fight is a masterpeice 100%
thx, nice guide, up until now, messmer "messmers" me up🤣
Good guide actually helped with snakes get tf out the way
I did this on Lvl 153 character on NG+ with Scadutree 11.
That one ability where he just shoots across the room with no hesitation in phase 2 was my downfall for a couple deaths

It barely takes any stamina.
got it after this video thanks

I really struggle with that fire air spin combo.
I'm over here feeling pretty over whelmed... victory will be sweet... eventually
Fingerprint shield also negates most of his movesets if you're struggling with his attack patterns. At that point reduvia in right hand can neg this boss
bro by mistake i beat him first try just now so sad i didnt get to see anyhting , bro got staggered at the begining of phase 2 and then just heavy spam and he died . Loved watching all these cool attacks
NG+ lol, have fun
Cant wait for you to make the promised simp Ryan boss because that second phase makes me liquid there's just too much going on....
What would have been nice is to include optimum times to attack, lie of course dodging attacks is crucial, but when are the best opportunities to attack?
mind if use this attack footage for an edit
Use scarlet rot breath on mimic tear while you use moghs spear and he gets cheesed
The mf crazy spears, if I try to stay on the inside I die, if I run away I still get hit by 1 or 2 spears
Stay on the inside. Hug his left hip. Learn his attack patterns. They’re not as bad as they seem.
if you follow this guide you should be maybe able to possibly potentially conceivably likely complete this boss hitless perchance
How tf yall not getting grabbed and hoisted to get one shot in the first phase he does that shit where I can’t dodge it everytime I start rolling on him
thats what im sayin bru
After this i gained confidence with the dragonking's cragbladr
2 tries after watching this… thank you.
Thought: this time I'll try him nekkid with bleed sword like the guys on youtube... I'm about to get my fingerprint shield and spear again...😅
He's weak to LIGHTNING?!? MFW my Faith Build had to spam blood incantations. Thaaaanks Fextralife lol
ok but when do i can hit him?
Wiki says it is resistant to electrical damage,
Who is wrong?
You can actually just crouch through the first 2 phases of his signature attack before the AOE.
Great helt! Beat him after watching this video 20 times 😂
i saw his move set and didn’t even waste my time, used the summon sign and just killed his poise with a cold weapon didn’t even give him a chance 🤣🤣
I’m full cold build lvl 230 and he doesn’t flinch at all
@@Moneyaddthenmultiply i used the carian retaliation ash of war it broke his poise almost every hit, than i’d run around lose aggro rinse and repeat 🤣
Watching his stand next to him and not get hit is embarrassing for me. I panic roll all of this stuff and get clipped 4 million times
He kills me with 2 hits, which often connect. Also he is often so aggressive, that I can't drink my estus :(
thank you bro that help me allat
The Mommy Issues buff him.
If he could just never do the multi stab attack I'd be fine.
The wiki says hes weak to bleed not magic? Im confused
I missed the part where anything about this is " easy "...
How is bro casually avoiding this attack 1:28 that people call Messmer’s version of the “waterfowl dance”?😭😭
The other spin attack is much harder to dodge than this one for me
Great guide but would be even greater if you mentioned all punish windows
my tip is to stay close to him (except when he does his aoe) and always dodge to the left
really fucking sick boss
Is there a guide with medium roll too?
DLC and this orochimaru boss really pissed me off
Got his ass thanks for the tips bro
and i been pushing through this dlc with dual bloodhound fangs from the og games, no magic, no summons
ima come back and fuck up these bosees with my max level character after i beat it tho
Or you get a good shield, the one under the capital, ignore all that and block everything. Best with a spear or sticking weapon and poke him like crazy.
The difficulty of this fight is totally unnecessary….
Mesmer’s weak to magic and lightning??? That’s so freakin perfect for me😂. I have a male character that uses chiefly ancient dragon lightning and a female character that uses chiefly glintsone sorcery.
this fight is ridiculous
i almost first tried it...
@@AntolaRes its all down hill after a good first attempt
@@AntolaRes congratulations
If you're struggling here, fingerprint shield and Reduvia work wonders against messmer. Hes extremely weak to bleed
@@Swoleson_Rebel i spent 6 hours trying to beat him with moonlight greatsword because i assumed he was weak to frost then beat him in 20 minutes with bloodhounds fang
i am never doing this fight again
here is my guide:
1) step through the mist
2) step 2 wait 1 second
3) die
lol
1:30 oh, yeah, they’re gonna fix this😅 I’m pretty sure it’s not intentional that the start up. Doesn’t have a hit box.
This game is like either you dodge or die. I couldn't get away with his ground imapler at all like malenia. Accidentally dodged sometimes but i did figured it out. Also npc summon is mostly watching while you're non stop attacked. I beat him though just now but I'm not a pro soul player.
i thought he was weak to frost & bleed
….. I died and my mimic killed him AND IT DIDNT COUNT I HAD TO FIGHT HIM AGAIN
