Love this series so much! You do a great job showing the complexities at work here, I appreciate you mentioning the balance between jank and power for a commander.
My myr build is focused around vehicles and using the untap affect to allow them pilot and fight. With mech titan core its been dubbed mighty MYRphin rangers. Since 5 colours, robots and Megazord
Semblance Anvil is also a sleeper card for this deck its cheaper urza's incubator and if you exile an artifact creature than you get a discount on two different card types
I found that there's tension between 1) reliably creating a threatening set of creatures that can attack profitably into other players and 2) having recovery plays that bring back creatures/artifacts from your grave. The latter actually get in the way before the first mass removal hits and makes the deck feel clunky in the early and midgame. The most consistent way to be bigger than (some) opponents' creatures so you can attack profitably is to be able to get 3 mana on turn 2 to cast Urtet reliably. And have myrs to ready and able play right after. Because I always want 3 mana or turn 2, the only tapped lands I like for this deck are the depletion lands and path of Ancestry. The tapped artifact lands slow down your development too much as cool as they are if you have an Unwinding Clock out. Turn 2 Urtet can be done with the sol-lands (though their lack of color mana can can hurt) as well as a 2-mana depletion land (ex. Peat Bog) played turn 1 (two of the sol lands and all of the depletion lands sacrificing themselves also suggest including Crucible of Worlds and Conduit of Worlds). And once you play those the sac-to-draw cycle of lands (ex. Waterlogged Grove) look good as extra sources of draw. The bad 1cc and 2cc myr are are acceptable because you can cast a couple of them the turn after Urtet, which is harder to do if you play 3+ cc Myr. Having those cheap myr and their tokens out means you have something meaningful to use Urtet's pump on just as you hit WUBRG mana and run out of cards. The tap-Myr-for-mana effect is so busted with Urtet's untap that Song of Freyalise are the best cards in any Urtet deck. So play those. Way better than permanents that reduce the cost of artifacts. For similar reasons I think Chief Engineer is almost as good as Urza here, and a good budget alternative to Urza. I like Reconnaissance or Cover of Darkness as ways to push myr through/around blockers that could kill them. A good budget alternative to those would be Archetype of Imagination or Vela, the Night-clad. Once your myr are big enough and you want to just trample over blockers to win, Kodama of the West Tree and Invigorating Hot Spring each are nice finishers with some mid-game use. To not run out of cards I like Thirst for Knowledge, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Fact or Fiction, and Plarg, Dean of Chaos (who's flip side can help get extra Urtet activations with the extra untap in combat). Distant melody is great sometimes but terrible post-wrath when you need cards the most. Beware of effects that draw cards when you hit opponents with combat damage, they're unreliable when you need the draw to be consistent. With that said, and despite my not playing them, the untap-all-your-lands trigger of of Sword of Feast and Famine/Nature's Will/Bear Umbra is likely worth the investment because it can get you the mana to use Urtet's pump twice in a turn cycle. Even Wilderness Reclamation, Turnabout and Reset may be worth trying. I think good U and 1U cost counters should be played before Counterspell. Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam and Temur Sabertooth are nice protection against removal as is Steely Resolve (naming myr). If you don't play Steely Resolve then Tradewind Rider can work nicely to save your stuff or disrupt your opponent while taking advantage of Urtet's combat untap for myr (and Drumbellower if you get it). For being able to win without needing to deal combat damage, I like Breya over both Tezzeret and Myr Battlesphere for her flexibility and low mana cost. In my build, her lifegain matters too, as I play all the pain and sacrifice lands. That's also the reason I play Trading Post.
Nice suggestions, I confirm that I have been playing with the tapped artifact land, and there are way too slow, if I had all the pain lands or the depletion lands it would have changed drastically my early games. If you have it online, could you pls share your deck list ? Because your suggestions hyped me quite a lot :D
I really like Bloodthirster from the 40k decks and similar additional combat step cards that usually only untap one creature but, with Urtet on the board, untap all your beefed up Myr - Seize the Day or Breath of Fury for example. Vehicles also fit quite well into Urtet's strategy!
Is somebody else here super excited when a new video comes out? Love your videos and really enjoy watching it! Always find new commanders to play and cool strategies around it. Most favorit MTG channel
Moonsilver Key should be in this deck. You can tutor for any mana Myr in your deck, and being an artifact, can be easily brought back to the field, an amazing addition to this deck.
One of the cards Ive been enjoying inside the deck is Prosperous Partnership. Use the little myr that dont do anything to make a few treasures everytime before you untap with Urter. Or make a bunch of treasures right before you start your turn with your blockers so no untapped creature goes unused! Even if you kept them up as blockers
Last weekend: "Hmmm... pulled an Urtet from my pre-release winnings. I wonder how I build this." *Gets notification of this video, leaps out of chair, cartwheels, sprains ankle*
little late for this vid but some other cards i used in my myr deck are mana echoes, cathar's crusade, aura shards, elesh norn and a chulane that had been sitting in my binder unused.
Thank you very much; I got stuck focusing way too much on the counters and the tokens aspect of the deck that I ended up making an absolute ass disaster.
Urtet is suuuper strong after playing with him for a bit. Some honorable mentions in my deck: - All Will Be One: With enough Myrs, Urtet's third ability becomes a laser beam that can take someone out, or instantly win you the game. - Saheeli's Directive: Nice mana dump (with improvise!) that effectively turns into a pumped up version of Genesis Ultimatum. - Memnarch: I mostly put him in as a meme, but with the amount of mana this deck can generate, he's a force to be reckoned with.
Other cards I would look at, and are potential all stars, are: Chromatic Orrery (Being able to use mana as any color is beautiful with a 5-color commander), Blinkmoth Urn (colorless mana for each artifact) and Simic Ascendancy (1 turn win with urtet)
Raggadragga could be a decent inclusion. You can use your mana myr to activate Urtet, untap with urtet, declare attackers, untap again and activate a second time if you didnt swing urtet and the myr with mana abilities also get an extra +2. alongside Cryptolith rite it would work even better and you can swing Urtet as well and get the second activation
The new Dominus, Mondrak, might run well in this deck. Plus throw in that land that moves counters around and make things indestructible. But I love these recs! Gonna change my list.
Something I'd like to try is an mana dork/ extra combat build. Using the "untap all creatures" part of Urtet to untap to continue to generate massive amounts of mana, start another combat, untap again, and then maybe throw it all into an X spell. Seems kind of unique.
I have an uphill battle on this, but I’m building my urtet deck to only use cards set on the plane of mirrodin/new phyrexia. It’s turning it out to be more of a glass canon jank deck, but it’s fun.
I think people are really missing out on Drafna. The abbility to save your artifacts from removal + being able to recast myr for mor myr tokes + being able to copy artifact spells isnt just useful enough on it's on, but can turn Myr Galvanizer into a win condition. 2 Myr Galvanizer plus enough mana producing myrs is equal to infinite mana wich with drafna means infinite myr casting for infinite tokens.
I would like to see Tawnos, Solemn Survivor :) However! i think you can wait before you make a video on a new commander such as Urtet. It's more interesting to see how to improve a deck that's been around for longer time
Maybe Tempered Steel doesn’t pump much, but a least it pump all the myr current and future. Big dilemma with this commander is whether to start pumping what you have or cast few more myrs first. Even though commander and creatures are cheap, you really need a lot of mana to build your board presence and pump it. Before that you’re an easy target, especially that you don’t won’t to block with your tokens. This +2/+2 for 3 mana can really help a lot.
I am doin a full colorless build(Still running colored mana, just every card can be cast for colorless) But i really want mechanized production now. It will only work once though. Then it will be broken before it can go off.
Edgar Myr-kov has the problem that izzet spell-slinger and Boros equipment decks have and that’s so many things that pay off or care about the thing but not enough things in the deck to cover the spread you kinda have to use those cards as a package of their own and keep it to like a 10-15 slots or hope they fill other categories like ramp card draw and removal without taking from the theme cards.
Do you have time to revisit older videos? I would love a updatet video of Omnath, Locust of Rage. Or a upping the average of Mishra, eminent one or Wyleth, Soul of steel.
This is basically what I was going to do for the deck. I tried to force a myr tribal with Osgir and it was pretty average. I guess I won't be too unique, but hey at least I had the right idea.
maskwood nexus plus world tree. if you can pull off the last ability, you barf your whole strat onto the board and ask your opponents to board wipe or bust
One suggestion I made to a friend who was building this is Najeela. First ability doesn't do anything for you but if you are making WUBRG anyway why not take all the combats
I think the new Saheeli would be great in this deck. Her +1 in this deck is functionally “scry 1, then draw a card”, and her ultimate is so cheap that you can fire it off multiple times during a game and make all of your Myr free and big.
I've found that Mirror Entity doesn't do much in my Urtet deck, and ended up cutting it. Any time I have enough mana to pay enough into Mirror Entity to make it worth it, I probably have enough mana to activate Urtet's ability.
It's nice that WOTC has realized that PEOPLE LIKE TRIBAL DECKS and have been kinda mass-printing Lords for everything. The problem is.......well, as good as the Lords are, they're still bad if the tribe itself is just bad. Urtet has enough pushed text on it, and myr's are good enough that it makes them viable but, can't say the same for other tribes and it it really does get a bit tiresome when they try and "compensate" for the weakness of the tribe by printing a Lord with 5 abilities trying to shore up every single weakness all at once.
There is a cautionary tale for using Kindred Discovery in a go-wide token strategy. So much so, that it may need its own look during a "Challenge the Stats". Namely - it is not a "may" trigger. You will often find yourself going too wide to effectively attack and end the game with a victory; instead decking yourself. There is such a thing as too much card draw 😏

really wish this deck was able to be made at least relatively strong on a budget, even cutting the big hitters still has the deck price a bit too high for me :(
Hey Joey, how did you find Wake The Past working out for you? I respect what it does, but I've been tinkering with Alibou lately, and found that very often, the times I wanted to cast WtP, I had a badly damaged capability to cast it... usually because I had just eaten an artifact wipe that destroyed my rocks, and worse, my artifact lands. And this list runs WAY more artifact lands! Have you been able to cast Wake reliably when you most need it?
While I agree with taking out the Forsaken Monument and the Tempered Steel, I would put in Eldrazi Monument. There is so much token creation in the deck that the upkeep is negligible to maintain while giving everything Flying and Indestructible is something that you would really want when the "quality" of your average individual creatures is so low. Also the price at $12 is much more reasonable than it use to be.
Would love a upping the average on Hogaak, he was my first commander deck, already built him as an aristocrats build, +1/+1 counters, self-mill, graveyard matters, stomp, and some other builds i don't remember
You can justify keeping forsaken monument by running the pain land cycle, which can give you a ton of extra ramp plus color fixing plus you gain most of the life you would lose back from the monument
Yeah I have to strong disagree about the creatures. I made a list with 25 Myr only for creatures(I detest mixed tribal decks) and the deck runs fantastic.
What's this? I don't see an intruder alarm? Well, that's just sinful Plenty of myr that tap for mana, AND our commander has an untap ability AND each myr brings at least one other myr with it? I smell value.
I really don't get why wizards gives this tribe 0 support, It's One of the most beloved tribes (Just look at all the love urtet got), It's One of theyr "originals", i mean, of course wizards's other non original tribes Like elves or goblins have theyr original lores in mtg universe, but i mean that things Like myr, slivers or eldrazi are type of creatures created completely from 0 by wizard, so why don't Just give supporto to myr ? It's not Like i'm asking to make them Op, i'd Just Like them to be at least comparable to other tribes.. we had to wait so many years Just to have a Commander, but then they gave him 0 support, the tutor myr Is great yes, but the One that makes you scry but makes the other players scry too ? Ugh ! Then the One that gives you mana of the color you want by tapping and paying 2 Life ? Ok 2 Life is not too much in Commander but there's already a myr that does that for free, sure this One has toxic, but you're certanly not going to win with that One .. then if we look back to all the other myrs there's a Little Number of actually good Ones, and not so many sinergize with each other.. what they should've done Is that they should've printed at least a couple of more myr lords and some more good single myr with good effect for combat, that would at least gave them some dignity..
How many decks can there be? This card just got released. Surely any average will not be valid. This series has started to be an advert for new sets, just like Game Knights.
It has 1200 decks in the database, which is pretty cool. We make videos about stuff we're excited about and that we think will help folks out. Some of the most recent videos in the UtA series were legends from 2016, 2020, and 2018 (Atraxa, Yarok, Zndrsplt). And frankly, ANY comparison to Game Knights is high praise :P
Oft times, these decks had a different Commander when they were created and then edited when Urtet was legal. At least, that's what I did. Memnarch ➡️ Karona, False God ➡️ Morophon, the Boundless ➡️ Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch
Love this series so much! You do a great job showing the complexities at work here, I appreciate you mentioning the balance between jank and power for a commander.
I'm currently brewing Urtet and my goal is to go almost 100% jank.

Joey, you said you needed to focus on the Kor identity. I just want to remind you, you need to Myr-ly focus on it.
If i want upgrade more (maybe with more budget) do you suggest any list?
I built my Urtet deck to be a “colorless” deck, where the only color pips show up in activated abilities.
I think a good budget replacement for Urza’s Incubator would be Semblance Anvil. Exiling a Myr and making all artifacts and creatures cost 2 less is such a nice card to have.

I put a Furystoke Giant into my Urtet deck and it is actually a house. When it etbs it gives your creatures the ability to tap and deal 2 dmg to a creature or player. Which if you have like 10 myr can just deal 40 in one turn with Urtet.

Lmao, it has more decks than the deck I've one tricked for two years straight
@@Choadis Im curious, whats your commander?
Oft times, these decks had a different Commander when they were created and then edited when Urtet was legal. At least, that's what I did. Memnarch ➡️ Karona, False God ➡️ Morophon, the Boundless ➡️ Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch
