There's a foot cam for a reason... this is just so incredibly tight and you can see the subdivision literally flows through him, reminds me of old school jazz drummers playing bebop, if for one second you dont feel where the beat is you've already lost it

In high school this tempo killed my arms practicing this song but as i grew older it became much easier to play and much more fun to get with friends and rock out to one of my favorite NFG songs. Still a top 10 after all this time.

I appreciate that very much. Fortunately I have a few shows like this where I multitracked the audio, so I'm able to go back and remix them to make them sound better. Because, yes, you're right, just an onboard mic from a GoPro is nothing compared to mixes like this!

When listening to music from my youth ..nothing hits harder than NFG..I remember being 11,12..trying to play NFG on the drums ..still play ..they will allways have a special place in my heart ..brings me to a place were the world isn't so grey

Man, this song takes me back... I haven't drummed in so long, but your videos always make me think of those feelings. Awesome stuff, bro.
Whilst "My Friends Over You" was the actual first NFG song I heard (saw the videoclip on Dutch MTV), once I bought the album and this, of course, was the first song I actually listened to. And made me fall in love with NFG right away. The perfect combination of punk (in which my musical career started) and hardcore (the scene I was a part of at that moment), and this song embodies these styles for me so much! And your drum part is so spot on, those tom/snare "flams" in the chorus were instantly part of my drum vocabulary. And in this live version, I love that you smash the hell out of the hihat in the bridge part with your left, so much energy!
19 years later, and NFG is still on my daily playlists, and you're my go to drummer when I need some inspiration for my own drum parts!

Phenomenal as always! Like others have said here, this is ALWAYS my go to song to play along with. My #1 song of all time from any artist. SJC always sound amazing. I just don't understand with that power, how you aren't replacing heads and cymbals 3 times a show ! Haha. Great job as always my man. That’s a SJC Custom Drums titanium snare. It’s a slightly different alloy than their current titanium snares…apparently you can’t source this exact alloy anymore, so it’s technically one of a kind!

So I’ve reached out to a guy at SJC to discuss getting a kit similar to yours. I’ve been a Yamaha Stage Custom guy for so long and need justification man.
You and I both beat the crap out of these drums, so Evans heads are 100% necessary, but why SJC? I’m a hobbyist and not a gigger. Your thoughts.
Oh and convincing my wife on a $4k is tough when you aren’t a pro ha ha.
I went with SJC because I had a long relationship with them. Prior to SJC I was with OCDP (Orange County Drum and Percussion), and so I've always considered myself a "custom drum shop" guy. Nothing against the big boys (in fact, I often use DW when I have to fly to a gig and SJC aren't available)...I just never really got into them. I think another reason that wouldn't necessarily apply to you was that early in my career I felt like reaching out to (and landing an artist deal) with OCDP was way more possible than hitting up someone at one of the major manufacturers. In hindsight I was probably wrong with that, but that got me started down the custom path, and with SJC, I've known the people at that shop for years now and so it was a no-brainer when I parted ways with OCDP for me to go to SJC.
As for you, I would honestly say go with what's comfortable. I know that different manufacturers have different methods of making drums, and that (along with head choice) can play a huge part in the "feel" of drums. Honestly, you should be able to beat the crap out of any real drum and it should take that beating, so I wouldn't worry about that. I know Yamaha makes great drums, I just never got into them myself.
You gotta do you, and I know that's probably not what you were looking for, but that's what I do. Or, at least what I do now. In the beginning I will admit I looked up to a bunch of punk rock and rock drummers and a lot of them were playing OCDP. Drummers like Travis Barker, Chad Sexton (311), Adrian Young, etc. were all using OCDP and that definitely skewed me towards that company.
In my opinion, SJC makes some of the coolest (and best sounding) custom drums out there, and they really have a lock on my side of the industry, so that's another reason why I'm down with them and raise the SJC flag proudly!
