FrothyOmen not sure if that's a console and PC difference because I see him quite a lot on PS4. But you are right, he doesn't last very long compared to the others
Scorch needs some love. I've always found it funny that a firestar sticks on longer and seems to do damage than his giant thermite ball. (I know balance but Scorch is throwing a ball the size of a cow, and is outclassed by fire weeb shuriken)
Ken Awamura i think they should replace his primary with a shorter range flamethrower. effectively making him a powerhouse in close plus being able to zone and control a area
@@everestsdriveway366 Well he baseically already can deastroy Everything in close quarters his Flame shield is his most damaging ability so I don't think a Flame thrower would be a good idea I mean the beat strategy against him is "go backwards"
What really tilts me about Laser Shot is how immediate it is. There's no charge up timer nor any kind of warning it's coming, just sudden, completely free insta-damage. It's a click-to-chunk-health button; and since it's hitscan too it's literally impossible to dodge. The fact that it also crits and you can have TWO of them is just the cherry on the cake. I play a lot of Stryder titans and getting randomly chunked across the map by two back to back Lasershots (sometimes even right after spawning in) without being able to do anything at all to prevent it or avoid it is extremely frustrating. -Edit - 100% agree with everything you said in the Northstar section. The fact that Laser Shot single handedly outclasses an entire Titan class is pretty asinine.
They should have a forced charge for Laser Shot and have a sound cue like Legion's power shot. I mainly play the small built Titans like Northstar and Ronin(mainly Ronin) and I get destroyed by that.
+Brian Jimenez I feel like a charge up timer with a visual indication is absolutely needed. Fighting Northstars for example you can look at the barrel of their rifle and see when it's charged up; fighting Tones you can count locks and wait for the rockets to dodge them, etc. Laser Shot is just guaranteed damage that requires no setup and cannot be avoided.
i think what makes northstar worth playing is that she can fly (but even that should be more supported, mapwise)...tactical advantage as hell! and the tethers need a huge buff, like this electro-charged something or a faster activation when thrown. northstar is such a nice titan and feels so satisfiyng!
I love how a single ability is better in every conceivable way than the entirety of Northstar's kit, yet there are still people saying "L-Laser Shot is balanced guys haha for real"
I suspect(or atleast I hope) that Ion gets a nerf soon. She is probably the easiest titan to use and do well in(In my opinion). If she didn't have laser shot, I think it would be a very different story. and the Energy pool doesn't balance her in the slightest, since your only using it for laser shot.
Tonioh98 I Titanfall 2 videos! yah be because ronin rapes us northstar users and he easily executes every doomed titan, along with every other titan easily avoiding your attacks, so high DPS easy mode titans can focus on non doomed titans and northstar users clean up long range where doomed titans think they're safe...
Titanfall 2 comes out. Frothy: "tone is super powerful. You may as well go all tones." Tone gets nerfed. Frothy: "ion is super powerful. You may as well go all ions."
in other words, tone was nerfed in titan v titan (still decent) but still is absolutely broken in titan v pilot, probably the best anti pilot titan outside of monarch.
That salvo core around 8:00 charging up another one completely was ridiculous. Didn't know that could happen. I guess since none of the kills were directly from the core?
Antonio Maya to be fair this is a very different meta then LTS. So ion could be broken as hell here but ok in the rest of TF2. Im playing more ion because of TB but havent thought him OP. Hes good but not everything. Ronin is being a pain because hes not being dealt with in time. Iv started playing scorch and hang at the back of the pack to say hi to anyone that flanks. I can always do a 180 to fire a high shot of thermite into the grouped up main force if no one comes. Im hoping TB stays and a effective meta forms like in LTS. Alot of ppl like titans but arnt that interested in pilots that can be tempted into this from outside
kudosbudo so once they nerf ion because of her laser shot which i think is fine because it has a limited range unlike northstar for example. Then we will see only Northstars because we didint know how powerful she was
I feel like Northstar tether traps should be buffed. Maybe have Twin Tether traps as default and have an option to make them deal electric tick damage like 50 per .5 second but have a slightly longer cool down to sorta balance it. It make the tether traps actually threatening as opposed to being an annoyance
@MrPoool: You keep the arc wave/laser shot button pressed and if you don't need it right there and then you press your melee button WHILE you're still holding the other one. If you release the AW/LS button before you melee, it won't work.
ronin owns the role of executioner on the team he just rushes in and steals executions so easy, with his enhanced melee range and speed and dash, northstar is overly underpowered when dealing with him
I disagree about Scorch. Playing him as a midline support Titan works wonders because no one is really going to be thinking about you hitting them with those mid range grenades and when team fights get trapped in a small lane (as they are want to do) he can really support the frontline by lighting everything on fire to keep Ronins away or cover a retreat from the lane. He's also the only Titan capable of really dealing AoE damage, which is super useful when the front lines get super close.
Scorch wrecks noobie/overly agressive Core Ronins but any Ronin worth its salt can stand back and Sword Block most of the damage from Flame Shield, which in the end just leaves Scorch naked and vulnerable
My main problems with this game mode is damage dealt is not shown or effects the scoreboard. Yea I want to get the win but it's so annoying doing so much damage and getting nothing but assists or recognition for my hard work. Also executions are so broke in my opinion especially when your using your core and an enemy Titan just ignores it and executes you. I think you should only be able to do it when a core is activated when it's from behind/side. Still enjoy the game mode.
Literally 2 years late, but being able to execute titans using their cores gives the enemy a chance to dodge or react to the core, having it be unstoppable from the front is kinda broken and wouldn't really worm
When I play North Star, people like to push aggressively on me. I then retreat and place a tether and then when they get caught place my cluster. Peak the corner and hit the crit. More often then not the other titan is nearly doomed.
this is why people are so afraid of using other titans and why there's just ronins and ions on titan brawl. you give such a poor point of view on every other titan that is not ronin or ion. Tone is correct its pretty balanced even with the nerf but NORTHSTAR is not a weeker version of ion, is actually the opposite of ronin, while ronin is a hit and run close quarters titan. Northstar is the same but at long range. you gotta try to go for the long range ambush and move as much as you can. with LEGION you just gotta be smart when using it and stay at a long-medium range FINALLY SCORCH! my favorite for titan brawl. with SCORCH you just gotta predict the enemies moves. let me tell you, a smart SCORCH IS A RONIN KILLER. scorch is all about the ambush. use it in places and maps where the enemies don't have much space to move (exoplanet, angel city, eden etc) also with the inferno shield try to block as much shots as possible and in close quarters use it as your main source of damage. a good scorch load out is. Titan Kit: turbo engine and Scorch Kit: Inferno shield
You know, Northstar is very op when she has that thermal vision. Enemy titan deploys electric countermeasures? Northstar doesn't care. I have been called ''wallhacker'' lots of times whilst I was playing with Northstar and shooting through ecm with thermal vision and it helps so much even when they are far away, because you can see them.
The pace of a match probably has a big impact on scorch, slower matches mean scorch can get behind lines faster than titans can spawn in flanking positions.
Ronin is not overpowered by design, but 2 things make him effectively overpowered. The first thing is the dash recovery in sword core being way too fast and less experienced players just run in that case. This have 2 effects: the ones who dont know how to deal with it eventually still get chased down and sliced like ham, while the ones knowing how to deal with him does not get enough support from the coward teammates he has, especially when he needs to reload or sth, there is just no enough reaction time. If ronin is running highlander and is not in doom state, then the fleeing of the teammates effectively makes the whole thing a feeding frenzy. In summary, this is a feature of ronin that requires knowledge of most basic teamwork to counter, which is still very rarely seen in most games of titan brawl or LTS. Not everyone playing this game has a brain, while the percentage being... Huh. The second thing is based on the first: melee registering problem. It is a problem across the board for both titans and pilots, numerous of times the models collide and you see your melee target being pushed away by the melee action but no damage is done. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the server failing to register some of the data packs but this tends to happen in the heat of the battle. In this case, if you are dealing with a doomed titan, then 8 to 9 times out of 10 you cannot execute a titan due to melee not registering or only doing damage, you are against a ronin. His high mobility actually provides him with an extra perk of being exceptionally hard to register an execution, which is obnoxious. It's like a probability overshield on ronin, which is definitely not fair.
I like dying as ronin as bad as that sounds😂 I go in put up and intense fight get a few kills as I’m doomed but in the end it’s impossible to not get terminated and I find that honorable to go out hand to hand at the end
How to beat Ronin: have a scorch with his thermal shield ready if the Ronin tries to rush, and when he tries to back up, have a trap behind him. It's niche, yeah, but it works.
The Shiny Golden Emperor You know Ronin has longer Melee range, right? If you space the Ronin melee right you shouldn't be getting hit out of it, ever. They should be sliding in for an execution with the active hitbox for a near guaranteed kill, unless you actually dodge with a dash.
That Ronin at about 3:40 shrugged off a ton of damage from your core just from blocking. Smh just try that with any other titan with a defensive ability and you'll get stomped. AND IT HAS NO COOLDOWN!!!!
All valid points but your forgetting the main point HE CAN BLOCK THE DAMAGE UNTIL THE COWS COME HOME! The sword block no matter how much damage it truly deflects is op because it has no cool down. Vortex shield=cool down/ finite energy, flame shield=cool down, gun shield = cool down etc.
Sunny Hill Yeah but Ronin can't do damage until he lets go of the sword block ion can do damage she reflects bullets scorch can do it at close range too. Wanna complain about sword block, lol sorry but no. Also Ronin has 4 shotgun shells and arc waves which he is completely vulnerable while using them.
At 10:17 in the Legion kill-cam, did he fire a power shot while using his primary fire? Or was someone else shooting you? Because you effectively insta-died.
How would you suggest nerfing laser shot? Constant drain on charge while holding it? Less damage? Charge up time before firing? Less core charge? There's just so many variables in titan combat.
I just wish Northstar was better. I get the whole Buffs > Nerfs philosophy but Laser Shot is seriously broken. If it were to stay as a sniper ability it should have reduced speed and should require a bit of charge before firing. If it stayed as a finisher ability it should probably have less range or some damage fall-off (inb4 "but it's a laser!!!"). As it is it's just a free "give me 1/2 of your health pretty please" ability with no real counter.
With that being said, Ion's Laser Shot still has a limited range. I think whats needed for balance is to make Northstar's Railgun more akin to a hitscan. She is afterall carrying a Railgun which is based on the principles of extreme velocity.
Until the next patch Ion will be the meta, as a Northstar main this will be tough. But yes I agree, being able to cancel a super powerful ability is stupid. But I'm just a whinny Northstar. :)
For me scorch is only for well coordinated teams. He's not a damage dealer, he's an area of denial, and thus a good counter to ronin due to their dependency on high mobility, or some legion trying to flank. But that means you gotta have your team constantly positioned well, constantly communicating, and in general having way too much situational context for him to be considered "useful". and of course, the problem remains in that there's nothing a titian can do that an ion won't do just as well if not better.
if you're wandering about how Cores interact with defensive abilities, essentially, they all do a huge amount of extra damage to them, meaning most of the time trying to block a core with Vortex/Particle Wall Etc isnt really a good idea. The only one this rule does not apply to is Ronin, because his block is a flat damage reduction, not a barrier.
Phoenix Fire Its annoying how ion can absorb salvo core (to a lesser extent) and flight core rockets. i know its brief but still you'd think the shield would drop. As for legion Thats where i get filled with salt
The problem you're having with Northstar core from what I saw in the video is that you're acting as if you are Ion or Tone: you're using it when cornered or confronted trying to out-damage the opponent. What you should be doing with Northstar is making a fighting retreat or running any chance you get unless you're truly cornered. Think of the core as of an attack chopper: get that core, flank the enemy and make a surprise strafing run. Northstar core has good damage but it's dealt over more time than Ion's or Tone's core, it has some splash. The flight property allows you to pick your targets in a group to first focus on the doomed Titans and then the rest thanks to the vantage point you're given. Personally I always use the enhanced jet engines to make surprise attacks quickly and retreat: when you find your enemies, take off rain down and as the core is about to deplete either use the flight to retreat behind cover or to get closer to a doomed opponent to melee him. If you do not have a choice and must pop the core in a direct fight either first get behind a corner before flying up or if the enemy is right in front you first use your smoke and then pop the core - in both cases you gain a second or two for them to reacquire the target adjust their aim, something they didn't have to do in this video before you were using it right as they were looking at them and they just need to slightly raise their aim. One more thing: if you think that the core exposes you too much, press your flight button first and then the core - this will stop you from flying up too much as your Titan will hover closer to the ground during core.
I disagree about the Northstar. her cluster missile can really provide massive damage in tight corners. especially when enemies are grouped since titans (except ronin) can't go through friendly titans. Much like ions laser shot, you need to kinda spam cluster missile.
I'm not sure if Northstar would be in F tier, at least in my opinion. I'm not going to argue that she isn't outclassed by ion in almost every single way, but she does have her strengths. With hover and flight core, she can attack from places that, not only can other titans not even attempt, but almost no one would think to expect. Her flanking capabilities are great assuming you position yourself right to make sure that they have to take a beating from your team to come after you and cluster missile is great at forcing them out of cover any way or keeping them from following you as you move a much more favorable position. Flight core is great ganking insurance on top of that, just the rocket pods popping up is more than enough to make most enemies think twice about exposing themselves to attack you, allowing you to either make your escape or wail on those stupid enough to stand in the way. The scenarios you're going to be really screwed is when your have to deal with multiple people working together (or a couple lasershot happy ions), a trait shared by basically every other titan in the game, she's just more susceptible to it with lack of a proper defensive ability.
I'm a tone player and I think ronin is just right. The advantages are that you can easily escape pilots and deal good damage but the real balancing factor is that every titan you target goes at least one third of your health 2 thirds if your mediocre. Your looking at 2-4 kills while a good tone can take minimal to no health per titan attacked.
Ions laser shot should get a heavy long range penalty to damage to de-emphasis Ion as a sniper. Legion and Scorch should get an HP buff to emphasize their roles as heavy tanks. North's Star's primary should get a small buff to damage and large buff to projectile velocity and the tether traps need to start dealing some small damage. I don't use Ronin, but if he's high skill, high reward and is just very useful to his team, I don't think he needs to be nerfed.
Frosty I'm a really good ronin player (not trying to brag) but when I use him, I use turbo engine and I get the extra ark wave. I don't know if this will help u but it did help me.
Sword block is just a little too strong right now. There is just no consistent counter to a good Ronin because they are never alone. Here's a good way to put Ronin in a good spot: Make sword block not block fire damage (think incendiary traps), and bring back the ability for Northstar to hit through it (make it require the perk for piercing shots or something). As of right now, a good Ronin will just destroy a team with very little help.
Frothy Honestly if there is anything you can do as northstar to beat ronin please respond or make a video about it because I stopped playing titan brawl when I wanted to use Northstar but I would just get destroyed by ronins, I would play my other titan, legion, but ion is everywhere and the matchup is impossible.
I would consider myself a good Northstar pilot. I would very often be in the top three in Titan brawl. The tick I found for flight core is flight directly above the enemy spinning in circles using Viper thrusters. This made the core effective at instantly dooming Ronins, that would then drop down to execute
On your Tone segment I agree that she feels in a good place. I kinda wish she can't close-range salvo core straight to your face. Like possible have the salvo core fire at an angle upwards by default and tone needs to direct them back down. Not excessively, but at the same time maybe dashing towards tone is the safest place to be when she salvo cores.
Ronin really does need a decent team behind him to be able to shine. All the sword blocking in the world isn't going to help if nobody is taking the opportunity to dish out damage while the enemy is distracted. So many times I've entered into a fight believing some Tone or Ion is right behind me as I dash in to tank damage, only to see them carefully peeking around a corner barely firing at all as I get withered down by 2-3 titans all focusing on me.
Northstar is kinda sad in this mode. A simple ability outperforms a whole entire class based around the purpose. She needs a shorter hover and tether time, probably slightly, a faster projectile or hitscan, twin tethers default, tethers do 50 ticks per .5 seconds, and flight core has faster rockets. If the damagin tethers are imbalanced, then you could have it so that northstar gets a damage buff every time an enemy stands inside of cluster missiles or tethers. Maybe 25-40%. She should also have a higher travel time during core and hover without viper thrusters and better mobility while higher up.
I have played a lot of ronin mostly in pubs and also competitively(LTS).My solution to ballance him a tad more would simply be to make him take if not full then increased damage from electric smoke, cluster, ion s tripwire and scorche s flame shield and traps during swordblock. So scorch can fulfill his role. They are small changes which should make ronin players even more mindful.Damage reduction for shotgun or increase in damage taken during swordblock from any other sources than those mentioned above would be detrimental for ronin. It also makes no sense from a logical standpoint. How on earth do you block smoke or something that s on the ground or an explosion with a sword. They should also fix the laser shot cancel for the overall health of the game.
Legion needs more mobility or half of the wind up time on his cannon. Northstar needs a modification to her defensive ability or a new one. scorch is good, it just takes good map and flanking knowledge to deal damage. Ronin needs a little less damage blocked from sword block. Ion should have damage drop off on Lazer shot and/or Lazer shot takes up 75% of energy bar.
As a player who started on Legion, I find it very easy to take out any Titan. With the only exception being ION, I was actually playing last night against one. And my teammates were screaming at me to stop shooting, because he was reflecting everything at them. And other times, whether it's close combat or long range, ION always stands out as the better option. But I don't believe the ION needs nerfed (We don't need another Destiny fiasco). But I feel like the lesser Titans should be buffed. like maybe when the gun shield is active, you can use it to increase melee attacks and power shot no longer glows red. Tone could do more damage with the gun. Northstar can use it's charged up rounds to gain tracking for the middle on the back (but also keeps the free fire). And Scorch need an agility boost, that could be a default dash so you can have two, or you can sprint while using the shield. My point is, things need to change, but in a way that makes the game play better, and not just some nerf to everything like Bungie does.
I'd recommend not running thermal shield on scorch anymore. after the nerfs to it, its just not enough of a difference in damage to justify it unless you always plan on being in everyone's face and you can do that consistently. Its a much better option to run wildfire launcher since that doubles the splash damage and AOE of your regular shot. Plus with all the extra thermite, a decent chunk of it will stick to an enemy titan and continue to damage them even after dashing away. It gives you more firepower at range and lets you make easier wall shots and have an easier time zoning people by just firing it at the ground and forcing the enemy to move around it or take a bar of damage.
Another thing worthy mentioning about legion is his dps is lower than ion etc. His damage is never gonna be instantaneous unless you land power shots which again has either limited range or not hitscan. However I'd still say legion himself and the damage he can deal while staying put is worthy of being considerably better than scorch and northstar. I'm not saying he's as good as ronin but he still stands there pushing lanes and dealing consistent damage with a team, so I'd put his potential above scorch and northstar.
as a Northstar main I can attest to this. Although with turbo engine she can survive really long, assuming that your team isn't trash. I'd like to see her gun be hitscan and maybe a slight rate of fire buff, both of these would make her on par with other titans for dps and pilot killing.
TL:DR Ion is S tier because Laser Shot is unfair and Splitter Lens can handle CQC Ronin is really good because he forces the enemy into Terrible certain death situations. The others are pretty good but Ion is better, maybe save for Scorch because he can pull some crazy baloney on small maps, but the Respawning mitigates this. How'd I do?
So far I've seen most of the titans do pretty well in a lot of different situation on brawl, Ronin has definitely been the most flexible, but I've actually had a lot of pain points with really good Northstar's, particularly multiple ones, even on tight map's like Glitch. The key to them is obviously keeping distance, but the combo of traps and cluster missiles can really be a pain. Especially on something like the tight curved corridor on glitch, they don't even need to be in view to lay down a good trap/cluster missile, and then they peak out to hit you with a good sniper shot, it's a great bottleneck where they can hit titans one at a time. I've also had luck with legion, although admittedly against probably worse players. for me the key has been to hang back and just play support/sniper. No one prioritizes a legion that's further away when something else is up close, and once you get noticed you just pop your shield. Once you get smart core you start having a stupid fun time doing a lot of damage, you just don't get the high kill numbers with everyone else taking credit for kills, which i'm okay with. My best match was on exoplanet where i just posted up in the high position of that big empty field while the opposing team just kept coming through from the side with the truck and never deviated strategies, continuing to bottleneck there and getting torn apart by smartcore on LR mode. Ronin definitely gets the most kills (mostly by stealing but thats what the titan is for), I agree that ion does well, and anyone can do okay with tone without having much of a strategy. I love scorch but i agree with your points, it's been the toughest to master in this mode. love your videos! keep it up Frothy!
Do Tones delete Ronins that well? In my experience, it feels like Ronin is Tones Anti-Christ. Phase Shift resets her lockons lowering her dps, her Arc Wave deletes her Particle Wall, and your Salvo rockets are so slow and predictable that it's easy to time your blocks to negate any real damage.
i find grand cannon really good on open maps since your core lasts for a really long time and they arent littered with ronin. other maps definitely refraction lens.
Razi Khalifa Ion has very flexible kits. personally i love zero point trip wire but I've found success with grand cannon and even amped vortex shield if there are a bunch of tones and legions
BTW 3 kits are actually quite good for Northstar in this mode. Threat scope allows you to hit titans that are partially behind cover; Enhaced payload for stacked up noobs; piercing shot for stacked up and ignorant noobs. XD
Alright, I'm feeling like playing a Legion in this mode. Oh, the enemy team has more than zero Ions ? Welp, better take one myself. Northstars ? No Scorches today then. As for Scorch yes, I fucking experienced the spawn problem too many times: I run around the map to flank the enemy or help teammates and all that happened was that by the time I arrived everyone from my team was dead and I was surrounded by 3 Ronins. Funny thing though, I had some real success with the termite launcher enhancing perk and not relying on the Shield - Scorch's gun can actually deal a lot of damage when people are trying to constantly back from you and you have the HP to take it.
I know this is an old video but rn scorch is great for me in public matches, granted player skill level is a little lower(myself included). But any map that is not wide open I can decimate a team fairly easily. Just takes some well strategized flanks and one or two aggressive teammates.
you either play with all northstars or ronins, or you play with 3 legions and 2 ions. I really feel like that tone doesn't have a place and scorch is extremely situational
Completely disagree with your evaluation of the NS. Scorch's attacks almost never hit since you can time the flights, you can force Ronin to teleport with a tether trap to their face. Ronin also swings into nothingness most times when you use your flight core. Cluster missile wrecks Legion with its shield up as well as any bunched titans. Against Tone's Shield you can cluster missile it for splash damage and it only takes two fully charged shots to take it down. The only titan that can even come close to going toe to toe with the NS is the ION. I almost forgot to mention how much of a map advantage you have with your flight, popping up to get a full charged shot it amaze. I mean, it makes sense that you cant evaluate this titan well enough. You even admitted that you've had little play time with it. NS.
Northstar is my B tier for titan brawl but it honestly depends on the speed of the enemy team and the map itself. a slow paced team and its potshot heaven, and if the map is tight quarters then running enhanced cluster bomb is pure FeelsGoodMan. If its an open end map ill probably run viper thrusters since the speed allows me to be aggresive in the air compared to LTS where i use it defensively. Still northstar in titan brawl is very hit or miss due to Ion and ronin matchups
had a 1v1 ronin to ronin one time, we both had core, and the other guy didn't hit hit a single swipe, just because of that melee push away thing. then we did it again, and he pushed me away with his core. traded titan kills
As both a ronin and northstar main I will tell you @frothyomen that northstar is a direct conter to ronin because flight can often escape melee sword cores tethers can annoy ronins and piercing shot bypasses ronin's sword block and is a lot of damage that a ronin can't avoid with a very well predicted phase, try using northstar more when you run into some a team with a lot of ronins and use double tether and/or piercing shot.
+masterplantplc123 it's very easy to hit a flying Northstar with Ronin's sword, try playing against better Ronin players. Railgun was previously bugged against sword block, it is now deflected correctly.
In my experience playing a ronin, I am not able to block legions power shit in a big battle, but if i'm focussed on the legion, i have a pretty decent chance. If you focus on how long he's been shooting in his mag and he stops, you know what's coming a lot of the time. (given the legion is not playing mind games)
I find that legion makes titan brawl ridiculously easy, even if you get a shit ton of your kills stolen, overcore + sensory array lets you keep firing for days and it's already pretty easy to get smart core.
Okay the ion "bug" that you're talking about isnt just ion. it's ronin too, you cant cancel the arc wave by melee-ing before it releases from being held too long or you just dont want to use it yet when u have it charged up already. ok back to the video
Frothy, respect the individual Titan analysis but you didn't mention/address team composition and how that affects survivability. I'm tired of facing three Tones at once and not being able to do anything about it. Playing on Xbox
Yeah but 1- You damage yourself 2- It's not guaranteed 3- You waste NS's only good offensive tool 4- You only have one chance My deal with Northstar vs Pilots is that her bullet travel time is ridiculous and pilots are crazy fast, hitting them is very hard (in console especially) and if you miss her fire rate is ridiculously slow. Also no defense against Archer except very well timed dashes
Today I got a 12-3 with ronin in titan brawl. Each execution was more satisfying than the one before. Also, holy shit, I didn't know Highlander FULLY replenishes your core meter on a kill! I'm gonna start using it!
You've angered us Scorch fans. All 4 of us that main him will be writing you a strongly worded letter
+Mike K I love scorch. But he honestly just is not good in this mode
FrothyOmen not sure if that's a console and PC difference because I see him quite a lot on PS4. But you are right, he doesn't last very long compared to the others
Mike K as the second of 4 scorch fans I second this letter
I fourth it

Scorch needs some love. I've always found it funny that a firestar sticks on longer and seems to do damage than his giant thermite ball. (I know balance but Scorch is throwing a ball the size of a cow, and is outclassed by fire weeb shuriken)
and he should be more uneffected to thermite by default...since he is based on dealing thermite-damage and can damage himself by that

If she didn't have laser shot, I think it would be a very different story. and the Energy pool doesn't balance her in the slightest, since your only using it for laser shot.
titan brawl meta :
1. ronin stole
2. ronin stole
3. ronin stole

5. tone pros HD
Tonioh98 I Titanfall 2 videos! Don't forget the occasional northstar that only shoots when they can killsteal.
0 kills and 10 assists as Northstar in my usual games. Thx for the killsteal!
legion agrees
@@grovedwellerswag oh i just kill other titans as ronin usually i only die 3 or 4 times and i get 14 and higher kills
Titanfall 2 comes out.
Frothy: "tone is super powerful. You may as well go all tones."
Tone gets nerfed.
Frothy: "ion is super powerful. You may as well go all ions."
+Colonel Dinggus in Titan brawl specifically, sure. In other modes, maybe not so much.
in other words, tone was nerfed in titan v titan (still decent) but still is absolutely broken in titan v pilot, probably the best anti pilot titan outside of monarch.
@@floofbirb4436 yeah thats ronin that thing is terrifying as a pilot
That salvo core around 8:00 charging up another one completely was ridiculous. Didn't know that could happen. I guess since none of the kills were directly from the core?
+KolyatKrios my stream FREAKED OUT when that happened! That's just one of the nutty things she can do
I’ve done it with nuke eject before
What I got from this video is 'Ion in broken in this game mode just do 5 v 5 Ion'
+A Tank Dressing Kitty basically
FrothyOmen dont remember anyone complaining about ion when tone was op and at the time no one used ion
Because like Ronin nobody understood how to use her and how good she was.
Irving Colon
...I actually really like this. Thumbs up!
Yes
I like this. Sounds like a pain in the arse for me.
Irving Colon I like this^ the traps (while not dangerous themselves) need some other reason, other than "I'm stuck here for a bit" to be avoided.
Animelytical y tho?
You also are able to cancel Ronins arc wave with the melee trick. Like ION with her lasershot.
+h3mpsmoker correct!
h3mpsmoker Do you just do a melee after the arc wave or how do you do it?
h3mpsmoker you can also cancel it into sword core if you're into that
@MrPoool: You keep the arc wave/laser shot button pressed and if you don't need it right there and then you press your melee button WHILE you're still holding the other one. If you release the AW/LS button before you melee, it won't work.
ronin owns the role of executioner on the team he just rushes in and steals executions so easy, with his enhanced melee range and speed and dash, northstar is overly underpowered when dealing with him
Monarch after stealing a battery for the 27th time without dying: I am a DEMEGOD
Anyone but me feel like electric traps with Northstar sounds like a good titan kit?
Tyler H I feel like twin tether traps should be default and the electro tether traps should be the kit that replaces the twin traps
"lol who plays scorch? just walk backwards" quote of the year
Scorch is really good against ronins core
Kees Hovinga true. I thinks scorch is the best counter to ronin. Especially with flame shield
Scorch wrecks noobie/overly agressive Core Ronins but any Ronin worth its salt can stand back and Sword Block most of the damage from Flame Shield, which in the end just leaves Scorch naked and vulnerable
Vinny Sape Ya, an experienced ronin will just dance around Scorch with his shotgun and avoid the flame shield.
Vinny Sape he's not vulnerable if he's marinating himself in gas canisters
Kees Hovinga Eh no
My main problems with this game mode is damage dealt is not shown or effects the scoreboard.
Titan Kit: turbo engine and Scorch Kit: Inferno shield
xALPHA266x that's exactly what I run with scorch
Skillage in the village he knows arguing with an idiot is a fruitless endeavour
The ronin after walking backwards with sword block after dealing 3 bars of your health in damage and taking 1 in return:😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🖕
"lmao who plays scorch just walk backwards" Uh, I play Scorch and I am genuinely offended
3:56 and there's a perfect example of everything wrong with Ion vs Northstar.
for me it works like this:
ronin
Arty Party
It's certainly not that cut and dry, but in a general sense that works pretty well.
Good Ronin player
I don't think the Ion thing is a bug, I do the same thing with Ronin's arc wave as to not waste it..
Skill issue, just play ronin yourself then😂
Doesn't laser shot have limited range? I've used ion and after a certain range I can't seem to hit them.
+Jose Hernandez correct
Jose Hernandez It's a lot harder on the console to hit at range whatsoever.
Peter Peetson yea
I like dying as ronin as bad as that sounds😂 I go in put up and intense fight get a few kills as I’m doomed but in the end it’s impossible to not get terminated and I find that honorable to go out hand to hand at the end
How to beat Ronin: have a scorch with his thermal shield ready if the Ronin tries to rush, and when he tries to back up, have a trap behind him. It's niche, yeah, but it works.
The Spreer Ronin will use his Ark Wave, Phase Dash behind the Scorch and use the Electric Smoke to confuse the Scorch. Scorch is pronounced dead.
How to not be a bad Ronin: don't get close to Scorch, dodge/block primary fire and whittle them down with leadwall and arcwave.
Mega Rag the most basic Ronin combo. There's literally nothing easier to beat as a Scorch than that.
The Spreer If you're doomed; wait for the Ronin to close in (execution) and time a melee so that you can stun lock him and execute him yourself.
I think it was sword core. Sword core block blocks 90% of the damaged received.
Other Titans have more health and range though. Ronin can block so much damage because he is a stryder and has no ranged capabilities.
Drobot v.35 But he has to be smart buddy😂
She is afterall carrying a Railgun which is based on the principles of extreme velocity.
the laser shot is unfair for a northstar you can kill her in 3 shots come on men, please don't turn ion on the meta :"v
FrothyOmen made me not hate Tone as much. What have you done?
Tone is now excellently "meh" that is it now. nothing more, nothing less
how much did Hammon Robotics pay you to promote Ion?
if you're wandering about how Cores interact with defensive abilities, essentially, they all do a huge amount of extra damage to them, meaning most of the time trying to block a core with Vortex/Particle Wall Etc isnt really a good idea.
The only fair kit I can think of to affect laser shot is to remove the split part of ions primary so you can't ADS but laser shot costs a little less.
One more thing: if you think that the core exposes you too much, press your flight button first and then the core - this will stop you from flying up too much as your Titan will hover closer to the ground during core.
does ion shoot Northstar shots or does Northstar shoot laser shots? 🤔
I disagree about the Northstar. her cluster missile can really provide massive damage in tight corners. especially when enemies are grouped since titans (except ronin) can't go through friendly titans. Much like ions laser shot, you need to kinda spam cluster missile.
3:25 what was that double laser shot?
I found that now, Northstar is also really good if you have an aggressive team and if you have 2 legions/scorches/legion and scorch and a ronin
As of right now, a good Ronin will just destroy a team with very little help.
what about Titan hard point that ?could be a good time !!
titan ctf! would be awesomly brutal! :D
3:21 Does anyone know what the heck that was?
Frothy Honestly if there is anything you can do as northstar to beat ronin please respond or make a video about it because I stopped playing titan brawl when I wanted to use Northstar but I would just get destroyed by ronins, I would play my other titan, legion, but ion is everywhere and the matchup is impossible.
I would consider myself a good Northstar pilot. I would very often be in the top three in Titan brawl. The tick I found for flight core is flight directly above the enemy spinning in circles using Viper thrusters. This made the core effective at instantly dooming Ronins, that would then drop down to execute
The ronin after popping sword core and instantly murdering you with 0 effort: uno reverse
The lazer shot cancel method also works on robins arc wave.
The more you know.
I would say it's intentional that Ion's Laser shot can be cancelled via melee, simply because Ronin's arc wave can be cancelled the exact same way.
That electrified tether trap is a friggen brilliant idea!!!
:D
I'd like to see her gun be hitscan and maybe a slight rate of fire buff, both of these would make her on par with other titans for dps and pilot killing.
hitscan NorthStar would be an inexcusable menace, faster projectile speed would be good though.
In short: Ion OP; Ronin very strong; Legion/Tone OK; Scorch/Northstar are bad.
+Jason Mycroft northstar is not bad, just kind of pointless
scorch is so fucking strong! ...just need to get really close
Most of the time you will lose all or almost all of your health gettimg close. Also you are slow and people will just run away if you get close.
TL:DR Ion is S tier because Laser Shot is unfair and Splitter Lens can handle CQC
Ronin is really good because he forces the enemy into Terrible certain death situations.
The others are pretty good but Ion is better, maybe save for Scorch because he can pull some crazy baloney on small maps, but the Respawning mitigates this.
How'd I do?
1:04 "It's very difficult to miss a titan" misses laser shot directly after :P
>laughs at the top of the scoreboard with Scorch
+Sad Larry you force Ronin to play by your rules, which can be really strong when abused.
hi FrothyOmen i have A question for ion kits you recommended refraction lens ? and best about others
+Razi Khalifa for this mode, refraction lens. For all other modes, zero point tripwire.
i find grand cannon really good on open maps since your core lasts for a really long time and they arent littered with ronin. other maps definitely refraction lens.
FrothyOmen you mean best Selection to choose but what about another mode Example Amped Hardpoint/attrition ؟
Razi Khalifa Ion has very flexible kits. personally i love zero point trip wire but I've found success with grand cannon and even amped vortex shield if there are a bunch of tones and legions
CrimsonCat117 yeah bro thanks i use zero point trip and amped vortex shield Also but refraction lens is not good or what
BTW 3 kits are actually quite good for Northstar in this mode.
I wish that they still had it so a fully charged northstar shot would penetrate sword block because it was a good counter for ronin
you either play with all northstars or ronins, or you play with 3 legions and 2 ions.
I mean… my Northstar is tough to beat.
had a 1v1 ronin to ronin one time, we both had core, and the other guy didn't hit hit a single swipe, just because of that melee push away thing. then we did it again, and he pushed me away with his core. traded titan kills
Frothy I saw you stopping he lazier shot how did you do that?
+poobear Cretu by punching
Frothy when I'm ronin I block everything and my team does nothing
Lol, I'm g8 with ion and never knew the laser shot cancel trick.
+Matthias Cornelis this is the quality of reply I'm looking for! Glad to have somebody else's opinion on this. 👏
I may be the only one, but I think Northstar needs a new core. I don't know what it would be, given her arsenal, but she needs a replacement.
The only thing worse than fighting a Ronin is fighting a Ronin that knows how to block
😱⚔🔪👺
what bugs me is that I move from tone to ion when tone was the god she was. then ion becomes the best titan. I can't win
Great vid Frothy, I also wanted to thank you because I just picked up rainbow six siege because of one of your streams and enjoying myself!
+MClouD M great! Glad you are enjoying it, it's a very rewarding game :D
I do pretty well in ion before I found out about the laser shot
Frothy, respect the individual Titan analysis but you didn't mention/address team composition and how that affects survivability.
I'm tired of facing three Tones at once and not being able to do anything about it. Playing on Xbox
Hi Frothy,
Could you please do a weapon tier video for the new update please?
tone has been nerfed he says , then gets 2 salvo cores in a row, WTF!!!!
I love titan brawl, because there's no fucking cow boys who practise rodeo on your titan
The bane of all Northstar mains
Vinny Sape - not really? As Northstar, you dash to wall, clutch missile on it, turn back. Easy kill.
Yeah but
1- You damage yourself
2- It's not guaranteed
3- You waste NS's only good offensive tool
4- You only have one chance
My deal with Northstar vs Pilots is that her bullet travel time is ridiculous and pilots are crazy fast, hitting them is very hard (in console especially) and if you miss her fire rate is ridiculously slow. Also no defense against Archer except very well timed dashes
Nice to hear finally respect for Ronin. Being a Ronin main it really is a great pleasure to hear what you say😂.
Today I got a 12-3 with ronin in titan brawl. Each execution was more satisfying than the one before.
Also, holy shit, I didn't know Highlander FULLY replenishes your core meter on a kill! I'm gonna start using it!
+Shonfrost it's not quite a full refill. But it's a LOT. Like, 70% if I had to guess?
Map rotation needs to get better next time around !! and add the other one's into rotation.
