Good suggestions. I flew with mine (alto) and was able to bring it as carry on. A friend had to put his tenor in cargo and so packing it with the bubble wrap is important and even synthetic popcorn to keep keys pads down. I flew internationally and one suggestion was to go to customs with instrument before and they record the serial number and horn and provide you with official documentation to prove that you had it before you left. That is just in case you are questioned when coming back about whether you had it the whole time and prove that it was not purchased and that you not trying to smuggle it in to avoid duty

I think Donna was referring to Hiscox cases in the list of suggested cases.

Thank you so much for the video! It’s very helpful and informative! I did have a hassle with an airline when traveling in Europe with my Tenor sax and the steward insisted that the horn must go to cargo deck however I try to convince her. The horn had a bad leak after the trip. Wish I could have had this advice earlier!

Hey, Donna. A couple of years ago I created a website for a friend-of-a-friend - master restorer, repair guy Gary Underwood, near Orlando, Florida. Fifty-some years ago, I played bari. My fee for the website (garyunderwoodmusic.com) was a rebuilt/restored BIG bell King Zephyr bari. (Be still my heart.) I flew from New York to Orlando to meet up with Gary and Sheila, pick out my mouthpiece, and take my new horn home. On the way home, the JetBlue gate people tell me that I'm gonna be on the smallest plane JetBlue flies. "Forget the overhead." But we can 'pink-tag' it and gate check my horn. I sweet-talk the stewardess, and she lets me TRY to fit the King Zephyr hard case in the over-head. It worked. Am I lucky or what?

OMG, that was really lucky. And a Bari to boot!

    Hey Donna,
Any thoughts on Hiscox Sax Cases ? From what I see, I like. It would be for my son..
    Thanks. Gary

They are terrific cases and are one of the most sturdy around. A bit heavy and pricey, but a great choice

My Selmer SBA alto was in a Hiscox case that fell three storeys down a fire escape. The case had some scratches, but it had done it's job. The instrument was completely unharmed, maybe alarmed, but without damage. They work and are easily worth the price. How much did your horn cost?
