Hey Petko, was super excited to see that hercules grub :D I've heard in Europe it is relatively easy to get 'flake soil' which is what I've been told is the best to rear detritus-feeding beetles on. They are also super stressed from handling as unlike some other species they aren't developed to crawl around on their backs. I'm sure you know all of this but I thought it might be nice for others to know. Can't wait to see the progress-- it would be a dream to have these in the US but unfortunately it's super illegal. We will live vicariously through you!
I didn't realize Hercules beetles were illegal... I'll have to look into it for Canada, we might be cold enough for it to be legal. Problem with beetles is the short life span, lol... so long in grub form, then so short as the actualy beetle morph. They were one of my first interests in entomology though, which lead to everything else haha.

Damn those Orchid Mantises were amazing! I loved their colors, I honestly didn’t even know that there were ones like that. Now if only it was possible to have an enclosure with those Vampire Crabs and the Orchid Mantises, that would be a stunning and very colorful enclosure, especially if you were able to create one were the crabs were out of the water a bit more. Namaste Petko
Eeeeeek! I LOVE Orchid Mantids!! They are so beautiful and cute and I can't wait to see more videos about them. The new beetle and spider editions are pretty cool too and will be super interesting to watch in their new enclosures.
Wow that Green Lynx looks so different. Green Lynxs in Malaysia have a greenish yellow to brown colour. Smol story: I’ve seen a mother in one of my plants, guarding her egg sac for 2 weeks. After they hatched, I legit witnessed a massive jumping spider pounce onto the mother, killing her. The babies freaked out and jumped onto other leaves. Circle of life right there
It is SO strange to me, I'm terrified of spiders, but I love your videos. I've been a long time watcher and I love your energy and your teachings. And It's so fun to see you get excited about these creatures. I hope you keep it up! Much love from Canada!
Petko, I got to see the little boy inside you, you were so excited by these beautiful animals, I bet you had a magnifying glass finding insects and spiders! It is so enchanting to find someone so excited about insects! I can’t wait to see all the little ‘buggers’ being set up in their new rooms! 🦎🦖🐢🐍🕷🕸
I love all your new beetles and spider's, however the mantis has melted my heart ❤️ Their first interactions with you show so much trust from the start.
I was at work today so I didn’t get to watch your new video until now. Great way to end my night and start my week, another awesome video Petko! I’m going to be getting my first T pretty soon and I can’t wait! Just have to decide which one I want to start my collection with. 2 yrs ago I wouldn’t dream of owning an arachnid because I’ve had arachnophobia my whole life but after watching your videos (and a few other channels too) I’m fascinated and can’t wait to get my own so thank you 🖤
It can be tricky to breed two orchids that are at the same stage. Make sure to keep the male in slightly colder conditions and keep the female in very warm setup so that she grows quicker since she has more molt stages + extra few weeks once she is ready to breed. On average the male lives for 3 months after final molt, but I had one that lived for 6 months so it's pretty random. Females can live for over a year once they get their wings so you don't need to worry about them passing first.
Oh the lynx spider is just gorgeous! In the macro shots it looked like it was made of beautiful quartzes. Nice assortment of some interesting animals :)
Those mantises look like ALIENS! I really hope they'll breed for you. Also the green lynx spider is easily one of the most BEAUTIFUL spiders I've ever seen.
Yes, it is a Nephila Pilpes. Hope you give it a large space because they build large gold color webs, up to a meter across, with frame web "cables" up to 10 meters long. The male, however seems a bit large for a male, and looks different, males are usually reddish-brown.
If I had that little orchid mantis I would name it Bubbles. Because the first thing we saw it do was clean utself ♡. Beautiful haul ♡. I would call the second one Boxer because the first thing it did was attack lol.
This may have been my favorite unboxing yet! The orchid mantises are absolutely beautiful, the beetles are gonna be so much fun to watch grow, and I'm so glad you were finally able to get a pair of Nephila spiders! The lynx spider is super cool, too! I don't want it to be stressed or scared, but I gotta admit I'd like to see how it spits venom😅 Also, I read that some species can start to lose their green pigmentation as they get older, so hopefully that doesn't mean you got one that's just gonna die soon. Either way, can't wait to see what happens with these little guys!
Congrats! Beautiful creatures! You are lucky... I live in Norway where it's almost impossible to get hold of inverts. To make it worse, almost nowhere in the world will send live inverts to this country. Kinda sucks to be an avid entomologist in Norway.
Here in Thailand we also have a lynx spider that is bright green :) seems smaller than yours but is more brightly colored and they love hanging out in the plants. They can jump a little bit too when they're angry and that's the funniest thing ever 😂
Just read up a little on the Orchid mantids. It seems that youll have to keep the male colder than the female because he will mature faster than her, and will possibly die before she is ready. He is mature at only 2.5 cm and she is mature at 6-7 cm. Here is an exerpt from the atricle i was reading. "The ideal temperature for the Orchid Mantis is about 28 ° C, but you can vary the temperature between 25 ° and 35 ° C. At night the temperature should be at least 18 ° C. If you want to mate a male and a female that where born at the same time, you need to slow down the development of the male. These males should be constantly kept at 18 ° C."
Good job Petco I enjoyed this Video immensely! I really like your Mantids, lloking forward to your Breeding them, they soo pretty :) I'm gonna catch me some Matids this year here in USA they are super cool little creatures, huh? Maybe I'll find some Jumping spiders as well. Stay tuned for more updates (lol) Keep up the great work. My BEST to Mia and Baby Erika
Hello Petko! Greetings from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. I have name ideas for your Beatles! John, Paul, George and Ringo! You got 4 Beatles and the "other" Beatles were a fab 4 too! As for your glass spider, you could call it Bowie! After the famous David Bowie and the Glass Spider tour that was one of his most famous! Congrats on your new animals! Enjoy!!
Everyone seems way too excited to watch roaches get ripped apart by beetles! We really better hope that roaches never become the primary species. They will feeding us to their children. 😬
Looking back at this 9 months later and realising that we didn't get a single update on these animals. Like, I know you had your first kid, but it's time to get back too two videos a week and keep us updated again Petko.
Breeding Hymenopus coronatus (orchid mantis) is difficult if they are from the same eggsac. Usually male mantises mature faster and are faster ready for fun time compared to females, who take longer to reach that. So, you have to keep the males cooler and feed less (but still enough so it wont die obviously), while you keep the females warmer and feed them way more. Oh, and only because I say you should keep a male mantis cooler, does not mean to keep them at maybe 20 degrees Celsius while keeping the female at 40 degrees celcius. That could kill a mantis (up to the species). Usually there is a range of temperature. For an example, sources will tell you, that you can keep the orchid mantis in a range of 24-30 degrees celcius. So, you will keep the male at constant 24°C (or 25°C) and the female at constant 30°C and both are fine. Male will grow slower than the female (if given both same amount of food) and there is a good chance both are kinda 'ready' at the same time for fun. Yey! Also, the amount of food affects their growing rate. If you give them more food, they grow faster. If you give them just enough food, they grow slower. That however, works only with a few mantis species (that you can breed a pair coming from the same eggsac). It is very difficult (still possible tho) with the orchid mantis if male and female are from the same eggsac. Usually you need a male from a younger eggsac, while the female is from an older eggsac to have a better chance for them to mature 'at the same time'. A female orchid mantis needs two more molts than a male to become an adult. A female takes 3-4 weeks to be ready for fun time while a male takes roughly 1 week. Btw an eggsac that comes from a mantis is also known as ootheca. Most of the information I have from the website mantidsandmore. It has a great 'care sheet' for many mantids. It helps me a lot with mine :)

I'm thinking that the Lynx spider can change to a darker green if you put it on a green object. There is another spider that I believe that can do this. Orchid Mantis is awesome.
