In Ayase's mind, offering her body is her way of not feeling like a burden on Asamura after he's done so much for her. Because he believed in the rumors, even for a bit and that underwear conversation revealed he had "desires" (really just intrusive thoughts) she thought that would be the best way to pay him back and make them even. He would be buying her like she asked.

I really love the slow pace the show is moving at. They are touching on some complex topics and having the time to not rush through them. I recognize their use of cinematography to act as window into their world and the damage kids of broken/ blended families struggle with. She lacks a healthy father figure, and he lacks a nurturing mother figure...
Both are hurting and want the security of a healthy family without necessarily understanding that's what they want. Kuddos on him for setting a healthy boundry for her when she was most vulnerable. He still needs help with building up his confidence and i wouldn't be surprised if she helps with that in a distant episode as a return on investment.
Either way, i really loved how they shifted the narrative to her perspective using the journal entries so that it didn't feeling like it was shoehorned in.
It seems like this anime is designed with an older audience in mind with how they've crafted their narrative.

When the show enters her perspective the look takes on the appearance of an old or defective film, this to me means that she has trauma and when she enters the room the "film" corrupts, that is, she made a decision that contradicts her her previous logic, she crossed the line between just "thinking about doing" and "doing".
The direction also shows that the two are quite isolated from the rest of the world, although Asamura has a healthier psychology than her and that they are "intruding" on each other's space.

My natural eyelashes are really thick and long, so (especially in school) i used to get a lot of comments from girls saying I must be doing something with them, and they don't believe me they are natural. So that conversation about cross-dressing and sharp eyebrows felt really relatable lol. It's a very specific thing, but something that can actually happen.

In your analysis, you overlooked a couple of points that you yourself said, as well as her own journals chronicling the time she has spent with him since they met, she doesn’t have faith in boys, because of how her father treated them so she was anxious and weary of what kind of boy he might be, but then he has showed her such kindness and to top it off. He saved her when she was about to get hit by a car. These emotions in her are pouring out. She’s beginning to fall in love with him and she never wanted to go there because she doesn’t want to feel vulnerable and depend on him, she makes a statement that she can’t stand the fact that he knows her so well and understands her mind so well. What she’s really saying is is he’s being the perfect man which is making her feel vulnerable because she’s now beginning to fall for him. by offering him her body for a price was a means to put him back into a place where she doesn’t have to have those feelings for him. If he had accepted her offer, she would have slept with him, but then she would have lost all respect for him & been able to see him as exactly the kind of man she was afraid he might be, and it would have changed her feelings for him. later in the credits, she talks about after that night. Her feelings have gotten even stronger to the point. She doesn’t want to call him brother because she is now in love with him. She doesn’t want to associate him with family, because of the feelings of love that she now has for him, because he has said all the right things and has done all the right things and has made all the right moves so her attempt to entrap him by offering up her body for a price was meant to put his character in a place that would make it easier for her to hate him but it didn’t work because he doesn’t like the kind of woman that would use her body that way, & he is trying to temper the urge to go their since they are suppose to be siblings. and now she is even more in love with him than before

I will never understand this "if he sleeps with me, he's wrong for me" mindset. Feels so insanely self-sabotaging, also simply unfair.

    • @jasonbradley7516
      @jasonbradley7516 3 місяці тому +1

@@DutchDread I kinda understand what you mean. However it’s not just about him sleeping with her. It’s the way she did it. If she had just gone in to his room and confessed her love to him and gave herself to him that would’ve been different. However, in her mind it would leave her vulnerable. It would be admitting that he got her in every way. Remember in her diary she kind of laments the fact that he is able to read her so well and understand her so well to the point he’s able to anticipate her and do the things that trigger these emotional responses from her this makes her feel vulnerable even though it also makes her feel love for him. So what she chose to do was to offer herself to him for a price. would you buy my body? This changes the dynamic because if he was willing to pay for her body then that puts him on the same stage as the stereotypical men that she was afraid he might be and therefore she would lose respect for him but he didn’t take her under those circumstances and because of that it showed that he respected her body and that just made her fall in love with him even more that he respects her enough to not want to take her under those circumstances. His generosity and kindness has stolen her heart and it scares her because she doesn’t want to feel vulnerable so she was trying to do something to change the narrative and take back control. This anime is very complex. I actually like it. It is more drama based then a romcom

I believe I’m in a small minority about how I evaluate “incest”. #1 if they aren’t direct blood related, it’s not incest. #2 if step-siblings were together from a VERY young age, raised as siblings, I can see why it might seem more incestuous / yucky, but it’s still not incest. #3 if they were thrust together under one roof in their teens, it’s definitely not incest AND FURTHERMORE falling in love seems pretty plausible and natural: You are pubescent strangers in sudden intimate close contact. That’s why this, “my stepmother’s daughter”, cuckoos, and domestic kanojo do not give me the icks and why I’ll argue with anyone trying to label it “incest”.

right there are alot of people that see it as incest no matter. kinda like the comment section of "my stepmoms daugher is my ex" like they were a couple before their parents got together so them falling back in love isnt incest or weird. like you said it would be natural.

@@Snzn_7 no, it’s not “spin”, it is a series of irrefutable logical statements that fit together to support a conclusion. If you think it’s weird, that’s your issue to come to terms with. Many people simply don’t think it’s weird for unrelated people to meet and have mutual attraction, and in fact that’s the normal way relationships form between unrelated people.

The book explains it better. It is still complicated but the basic idea is that her Dad was not a good guy and she wants to be independent. That is why she wants a high paying job. She felt if she sold herself to him it would be a way to make money and she knows he would not mistreat her. She is wrong to even suggest it and he tells her to never sell her body.

Bringing up Higehiro was a good comparison and contrast. I know this is slowly paced, but I like the study in character and I enjoy an intelligent anime that makes me think to go along with one that makes me laugh. Loved last quarter's Bartender: Glass of God for that very reason.

I thought she was doing it to make herself like him less. To disconnect from him and see him as unreliable. Him denying her is when she really starts to feel he is dangerous / feels herself relying on him more. But I dont think it was clear.
Could be what others are saying, as a way to be less of a burden. Or it could be her awkward way of getting closer to him, without actually getting closer, the money makes things transactional.
It is still a bit of a mystery to me. I hope it gets a bit clearer. It does seem clear she was down in the dumps about the feelings she was developing for him, then did this. The justification though...

Liaisons / Love affairs / (Sexual) releationships between step-siblings never count as incest, due to them not being related by blood. In other words, there's no consanguinity.
As for this series itself, I still need to check it out to see if it's any good or not.😉

imo the reasoning for her advance is self-hate. She stated earlier that her new family being nice people makes it harder for her. By sleeping with Asumura, she would have been able to "prove" that he is not a good person, making it easier for her to further self-isolate.
But he rejected her advances, proving that he is actually a good person, solidifying for Ayase that he's a trustworthy person. Actually a good person, solidifying for Ayase that he's a trustworthy person.

Not 100% sure, but my interpretation is just that she was purely confused, she doesn’t want to rely on anyone yet somehow she is relying on him for the job, even though she is paying it back by cooking, she may also feel that he is letting her be emotionally vulnerable or emotionally intimate with him and out of confusion or desperation to pay him back, she jumped to the conclusion of him paying her for her body, it doesn’t also help that she is a high school student who grew up around an abusive father, and have modeled her personality on not being vulnerable, accepting, internalizing and avoiding the stereotypes and now is suddenly having feelings for someone she just met that happens to be her step brother, not to add, I bet she has not lived with a guy her age ever. It’s just a whole lot of complications that add to the realistic characterization, in real life you can never truly understand why people make the decision they do. At least that’s what I took from the interaction.

[Much of this is basically what is said in this video; I typed this all out like 3 minutes into watching it, so apologies for wasting like the next 3 minutes of your time reading what you essentially just listened a whole 13-minute video about]
I think the core thing about Ayase, and especially what pushed her to go into Asamura's room, was loneliness. She mentioned how much she was alienated by everyone else and therefore developed a defense mechanism of sorts in response to that, telling herself that she needs to be independent and that she can't rely on anyone else. But, for any normal person, going from sheltering yourself from your peers and refusing to interact with them to suddenly connecting with this one person, who happens to be the gender that you're attracted to, on a level you didn't even imagine was possible because of how much Ayase withdrew inside her own shell, I imagine that makes Ayase realize just how badly she's wanted a connection with another human being. To me, Ayase doing what she did wasn't a sexual thing in the slightest; her peers basically taught her that the best thing she has to offer is her body, and so in order to some how pay Asamura back/ensure he doesn't leave her, she offers the best thing she thinks she can: her body.

      TL;DR - because it's not nearly enough per/hr.
It's not stated, but sort of implied that she did some quick math on how much she needs to make to afford rent and food, and then divided by the hours she feels she could work while still studying to get an hourly rate. We don't know much, but it seems like she was then floundering on where to start a search.... because the number that she arrived at is quite high. About the only way she could potentially make that would be selling her body (I can't recall from the LN if there are any hints that she knows that or not).

Im surprised of how much they adaped from Saki's perspective
looking at her actions from Asamurs's perspective may seam more puzzling to the reader than to asamura himself, her actions dos't seam to make sence but then you reach the end of the volume and thers this chapters that narrates the same events but from saki's perspective, this are some of the best chapters in the novels.
Saki said Asamura understand her perfectly, but thats not the usually case, her actions are really... counter intuitive, she is a walking contradiction, from the the way she dress to get atencion but turns everyone away when they get close.
how she hates that people asume she is a hore and jet she encourags those rumors telling people "they are true"
how she said she wants to keep her distance to asamura but goes out of her way get close to him and even cooks for him even when he is not able to keep his end of the bargin.
how she likes how confortable and pleasen't is to be near Asamura jet she say she is afraid to let him close but she goes out of her way to geet closer to him aniways.
she dos't understand her own motivations and that why she is an interesting character.

  • @hhjan594
    @hhjan594 3 місяці тому

Yeah I was shocked by what happened in this episode.
As far as I understand, her father likely said something bad about her mother doing a night job can easily make more money than he as a hardworking man could, which caused their divorce and eventually caused Saki's impression of "I need to be independent" and dislike connections to others. If any it seems like she distrust people, or possibly men for this reason, which is why she said stuff like "it would be easier if Asamura was a bad person". In many ways I kinda think she doing this wanting to prove he's a bad person.
Also Asamura likely knows her so well due to them having a similar past. If any they both seem to live in a house that lacks love and companion, so they think they are used of it and don't want to make actual connections with other people. Either way they both look like very complicated people in this sense.

I'm trying to find someone that give attention to this show, but unfortunately it seems like it flopped hard lol
But, in my humble opinion this is not a show about wincest EVEN if they ended up together.
This is a show about strangers living together, with both having they own demons to fight and having to build trust in each others as they relationship developers.
May they end up together romantically or don't, either way I think that is beautifully portrayed.
But I do understand that it won't be everyone cup of tea.
