Hey guys! In Part two of the Aspect Zodiac theory exploration, we look at the wheel from a Horizontal perspective, from the furthest left (Space) to the furthest right (Time). What do you think of the possibility that Aspects on the left are "cooler" and more passive, whilst Aspects on the right might be "hotter" and more active? Let me know in the comments!

Speaking of space being cold and time hot, dave and jade’s planets are centered around heat and cold respectively!
And Dave is rather cool, both personality-wise and emotionally, while Jade is very hot headed, especially after talking with Karkat. Reversed polarity!

I think that it doesn’t matter if your personality defines the classpect or the classpect defines the personality, I say that probably the first but just because classpects are fictional but it’s kinda the question of the chicken and the egg, “You like doing X because you are a Y type of person or because you like doing X you must be Y” but I wholeheartedly agree with the classpect not defining all about yourself

The Striders, although being cool, use their coolness as a veil, hiding their true emotions underneath (active).
Whereas Terezi, Jade and Roxy *usually* express their emotions whilst barely overreacting (passive).

what's interesting to me about this is that it implies that the middle aspects, breath and blood, are more temperate than the rest, in this regard. and I think that makes a lot of sense. something I've observed about John is that he's not just gullible and easily led... he often wants direction from others. he isn't lost if he's not being told what to do, so much as he just meanders. it doesn't particularly stress him out unless there are immediate consequences looming, but what this does is it makes him simultaneously detached and dependent. and something I've noticed about Karkat is the divide between his demeanor and his emotions. Karkat comes off as an angry, ornery asshole... but it would be wildly inaccurate to say that he hates everyone. in fact, he's the only troll that pretty much became and remained cool with every other troll and human that he ever met. who does Karkat actually want dead? who would he be willing to kill? anyone? not really. and that's because his anger comes from frustration. he's trying to keep everyone okay, and that's a hard job. sometimes made all the harder by the mixture of personality types involved. Karkat basically fell ass-backwards into being the greatest unifying element of his team by relentlessly getting into everyone else's business. and John unifies his team by inviting everyone to get into his business. John is the leader that acknowledges, values, and utilizes the competence of everyone on the team, while Karkat is the leader that troubleshoots all of the team's various flaws, even or especially in spite of the ego of some of his teammates. they are successful when they balance when to act vs. when to encourage others to act.
I always saw it like this:
Space is the most passive aspect because it's always there and it's always been and will be there but it doesn't do anything. It doesn't happen. It's like the ground, everything needs it to exist, but you never really think about it. Everything exists inside space and is supported by it, but that contribution is taken for granted, just like its players, who more often than not are distanced, alone and unnoticed.
Time, on the other hand, happens constantly. It's the most active aspect and makes itself known with every second. It's relentless and in your face and always doing things.
In short, space is passive because it never happens but it contributes constantly, while time is active because it keeps happening in the moment, every moment, forever.
this makes my mind jump to how the players work in their sessions. the space player is relegated to frog duty, something that is integral to "winning the game" but also, when compared to the issue of the king and queen, seems frivolous [queue karkat shirking work here] meanwhile the time player ends up being the one to make sure causality can happen, ensuring everyone has the time they need to finish their personal quests, etc etc. in the end the space player gets stuck with background busy work [that actually can't be ignored] while the time player is by default the one functionally playing at least twice as much of the game as everyone else.
bonus: it's possible that if aradia was playing her role properly, that if every troll played their role properly rather then being shoehorned into the positions that would result in the alpha timeline, then aradia likely would've been giving everyone all the time they needed, including giving karkat and kanaya the time they needed to perfect the genesis frog. instead the naturally exuberant and outgoing aradia spent the session puppeteering the flow like a stage-hand towards an end-goal of mass robo-cide to patchwork the survival of her team

So, let’s say that I have a bandicoot game, and you have a different bandicoot game. Yours has a bandicoot, but mine has a different bandicoot.
In this scenario, both of us know what a bandicoot is. However, I don’t know what your bandicoot is like. You can try and communicate all you know about it to me, but I will have an imperfect understanding of your bandicoot.
Homestuck works similarly. You can make your bandicoot, but it will be an imperfect recreation of the bandicoot, because that bandicoot can only exist in your mind.
i noticed that best boy tagora, a space guy himself and the one spacebound derse dreamer, does seem to be trying his darndest to come across as cool and businesslike even though it doesn't always work

ON DETERMINATION OF LUNAR SWAY: A BRIEF THESIS
I think Lunar Sway is more about how one feels about endings than it is one's activity.
"The Ultimate End" is literally that. Its imagery and details will vary to everyone, but it is always the end, the end of everything. Feeling, perceiving, living, moving, acting, and existing, being, mattering... True death. Game over. The Loss of All.
Think about that for a moment.
Whether this is a Real Thing or or not, *percieved* endings are always real. And one's *ultimate* feelings about them may determine their Lunar Sway.
I put forward the notion that:
If one feels positively about "The End," they are prospitian. One with negative feelings about "The End" are dersites.
This affects how we act in life, thus explaining the references to derse dreamers as generally being "introverted", "skeptikal", and "pessimistic" on the eZodiac page, and vice versa with prospit dreamers.
Perhaps it is as simple as believing that there can ever even be such a thing... as the One True End.
I disagree with the theory/theories presented from 4:51 to 8:05 for this reason. Respectfully, I believe Optimistic Duelist is making too many unfounded assumptions and that there is ♐STRONGER♐ evidence to my theory put forth in the comment above. I encourage you (yes, you!) to add to this with your own insights.
I am hoping this will produce a meaningful and productive discussion.

You know I kind of like this a lot? It resonates with me. Reminds me of Mawaru Penguindrum where different characters frame their perspectives with the words "I love/hate the word Fate", which I always pegged as a Prospit/Derse division. The obvious pitfall with setting this as the standard is, for example, the difference between Feferi--a very positive and optimistic Dersite--and Karkat, a really negative, cynical and jaded Prospitian. I like the concept, but don't know what to make of some of the characters in its context. What do you think?
I think that Feferi and Karkat DO indeed present valid counter-arguments to my theory! What a challenge! You know, I once looked at the derse-prospit dichotomy as being the difference between favouring one of two junginan axes. I believe you are familiar with cognitive function theory?
I saw derse dreamers as favouring the "condensing, narrowing" intrverted intuition, and prospit dreamers as favouring the "expanding, branching" extroverted intuition. It could be as simple as that!
I only never looked so carefully as to determine whether favouring extrovered sensing over an intuitive function constitutes prospit, or derse (since it's paired with introverted intuition) and vice versa.

i think the reason they haven't yet is because a lot of what we know about troll biology is semi-canon/fanon. like grub scars were only confirmed in friendsim which is semi-canon
Well, if the epilogues and Homestuck^2: Beyond Canon are to be believed, there is major overlap between "fanon" and "canon" - as far as anything that has yet to be explicitly confirmed or denied is concerned. So a lot of what is "fanon" might as well be considered "canon", especially if it is generally accepted by the fan community and fits into what has been previously established in Homestuck itself. In fact, Homestuck^2 is described on the FAQ page as an "official fanonization", and is itself a challenging of what makes something "canon" or "fanon" because while the story is outlined and approved by Hussie and What Pumpkin, it is written/drawn by fans. (Go read the FAQ page it's really interesting and easier to read than anything Rose and Dirk say in the Epilogues.)
Suffice to say, I wouldn't be surprised if in Homestuck^2 there is a moment when troll biology is explained, and it lines up suspiciously well with whatever the fandom has come up with.
I dunno, maybe the fact that a piece of official material seems to contradict a theory means the theory is wrong? Then again, that's what happens when the sample size of Time or Space players in the comic is literally 4 characters. Anything could go against that pattern without being particularly noteworthy besides disproving theories of that nature. I guess 4 is a larger sample size than 1, with the Muse and Lord classes now forever being associated with the aspects their only official players had been assigned. One example of a class isn't really the best sample size to make statements saying that it's somehow correlated with a certain aspect or group of aspects.
This has been bothering me for the past few videos, really. I feel that a lot of classpect speculation is kinda weak as a result of the few examples of any given class or aspect (as little as 2 for some) that we really have in the comic itself.
6, technically. The Beforan trolls also followed the time-derse, space-prospit connection.
The issue with the Extended Zodiac is it completely negates any pattern we look for, because every possible combination is canon. That's why the friendsim trolls are squirelled away to their own videos and are barely mentioned here; because if we take them into account, we have no more patterns to follow.
@@liamwhite3522 The sample size I mentioned included Beforus trolls (4 space and 4 time). As for the other point, if a piece of official content negates a pattern, wouldn't that be a problem with the pattern, not the content?
The part about spiritually connecting to the classpect system is so relevant because I was actually taking notes on your videos for that purpose. I wanted to combine some of your ideas about the classpect system and your theory on roleplay with ideas from astrology that I recently had. The purpose being I wanted to find a way to work towards or unite my roleplay persona with what I actually am.
I've been looking into the aspects and it's interesting how each aspect has a certain relationship. An example of this could be:
Doom and hope: hatred
-joey towards jake
-captors and amporas towards eachother
Hope and life: a falling out/a failed attempt of a relationship
-jake and Jane
-eridan and feferi
-cronus and meenah
Space and light: love
-rose and kanaya
-porrim and aranea
-kanaya's and vriska's ancestor
-(note that kanaya and vriska's pale relationship failed because having vriska being a thief, she lacked light to begin with. And by the time she found her light, kanaya was already with rose.).
- (the reason jade isnt involved with this is because shes straight and all of the light players are female.).
-roxy and calliope.
(They are indeed close, having roxy being a rogue she gets rid of her void aspect and shines through in light. But having her not being a light player in the first place, fails this concept.).
Hope and blood: pale/a failed paling
-karkat and eridan
-cronus and kankri
-karkat and gamzee
(Even though gamzee is a rage player, the sopor had him invert into being a maid of hope. When karkat and gamzee began being pales, it was mainly on the sole reason that karkat was hanging onto gamzee's, "maid of hope" ways. Looking back to when gamzee was just a high clown and wasn't as dangerous as he seemed.)
-xefros and dammek
(I don't necessarily believe xefros is a page but a thief because it wouldnt be reusing a class. He would still be lacking rage or in some sense a lack of truth of his current situation regardless. And since he lacks rage he comes through in hope. Having the same situation as karkat and gamzee, their pale relstionship isnt bound to last.).
Hope and heart: abusive
-jake and dirk
-the leijons theme being a cat and the amporas being a fish
(I wouldn't like to say abusive, because really the only example can be jake and dirk's relationship. But it is interesting how the same aspect players of dirk and jake have themes that portray their relationship in some way.).
Heart and void: pale
-leijons and zahhaks
-dirk and roxy
And it's not only aspects, but classes too.
Seers and rogues: every seer and rogue have aspects opposite from one another:
- seer of blood and rogue of breath
- seer of light and rogue of void
- seer of mind and rogue of heart
What this means I don't entirely know and I'm still kind of iffy on their relationship.
Knight and witch, knights being the witches familiar, in most cases.
That's all I know for now. there are plenty more that I do not know but I like to keep tabs on these sorts of things because i find these a lot more interesting and fun.
I've wondered about this too but I thought of it as a class to aspect pairing, as in those of one class will lean towards a certain relationship with an aspect. For instance, light is directly tied to pages. A pages step on its journey has been effected by light.

finally someone who says that dirkjake was, in fact, a little abusive. every relationship it's not perfect. sometimes I find the fan's depiction of canon facts a little disturbing. however, nice theory you have there!
about the seer and rogue relations part: potentially this could be due to both being passive and thus oriented towards the group in a way.
a seer cannot truly understand their own aspect unless they come to terms with what the opposite represents, understand the parts that come into contact with their own, and accept the areas that are beyond their reach. meanwhile a rogue will do severe harm if they mess around with the natural order of their aspect without in some way understanding what they both take and give unto the world. in a sense by having the seer and rogue play opposing aspects they can end up completing each other's range of capabilities
this runs counter to the thief and mage as those are both active, more directed towards their own actions and directives even when their directives are to help the team.

I always saw the hot and cold dichotomy relating more to the will of the aspect itself
where hot aspects are harder to control in concept like time. time keeps moving at a constant rate and doesnt wait for anyone,
cold aspects being more dormant and being similar to tool like space. things are allowed to exist within a universe or "space" but only react to each other through the laws of the "space" they reside in, and the universe itself provides no direct intervention to the things it allows to exist. an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by an outside force
additionally, i think its interesting that the players you claim to be more cool fall under colder aspects, while the players bound to warmer aspects exhibit a "cool" persona despite being more reactionary or "hot"
I also believe there some balance that goes into the aspect system. warmer aspects require cooler, or passive, mentalities to wield as the aspects themselves are more likely to not respond anyway, encouraging those bound to them to follow their aspect rather than direct it; even Caliborn came to terms with time and allowed the aspect to act on its own.
On the other hand, colder aspects require a more reactionary approach to wield effectively, as colder aspects are more dormant and malleable. while you could theoretically ignore said aspects altogether it wont necessarily be effective use of the aspects. At the end of the day, alt calliope intends to watch over Earth-C with the intention of protecting it from "evil" rather than let it become what it would become without her oversight.
Ngl, my favorite part of these videos would have to be any/every wide eyed "Yes."

I have been loving how well thought out and put together your videos are, OD! What about neutral aspects in the active/passive split? You didn't touch very much on them, are breath and blood players equally passive/active?
they are in the hot and cold sence
wich makes sence, the wind pushes and is pushed by more wind
while something like a net can be pulled from any part and that pulls everything else (for blood)
however breath is more active in the notional sence, and blood is more passive in the phisical sence

You touched on this concept, but I have another way to articulate it!
You only really have true access to your own timeline of memories, and while you can learn of others, you can never get the full picture. You are the only true viewer to your whole life. (Time > a single experience > active)
Meanwhile with space, many people can have many different and deeply meaningful connections with locations and settings. Any sort of landmark can have multitudes of different meanings, all depending on who’s experiencing it. (Space > many experiences > passive)

Both versions of Roxy in the epilogues were an amazing character. The journey Roxy took in both show how much of a complex character he/she is, i woulf love a video about Roxy as a whole tbh
It's a good theory, but wouldn't it make more sense for light to be a more impersonal aspect, as it's focus is on information and knowledge itself?
yes, but it's more a personal gain of knowledge, where one quests for that information and power themselves, with class determining if theyre willing to share their knowledge.
light players seem to value individuality a lot
and of course, they relate heavily to the spotlight wich they seem to crave at least in some way
impersonal in the sense of unemotional, yes. but not un- personal. personal in the sense brought up in the video is more along the lines of "individual" than "humane."
I feel like mind = the acquisition of cold hard facts and information with which to build an impersonal big picture game plan, and light = the acquisition of wisdom (enlightenment) with which to build a better personal narrative for one's self and one's associates.
@@markenangel1813 light can also be pretty emotional, all the 3 light players in homestuck are in some way, and light is used to symbolise moments of romance in the story

Not everyone has heard every word spoken reliably enough or even fathoms they have been saying it incorrectly in their heads enough to do research and find out how to pronounce it correctly.
Honestly, a dash hound sounds like a nickname for a greyhound.
Cool is definitely a good way to describe Roxy. Also "The class system is supposed to be fun" sounds like something the Condesce would say

Imma be honest I am in fact having a lot of fun knowing I’m an Aquarius sign with the same classpect as Eridan and similar thoughts concerning gender as him and a scientific belief in magic I think it can be real due to science not explaining a lot of things in this world. It’s just I find it interesting how similar I can be to a fictional character just off of a fictional role I share with him.
The end of the video makes sense to me. Calliope, Jade, and Terezi were born cool, and they don’t try to be cool. They naturally don’t care, or don’t show emotion that much. However, Dave was forced to be cool and mask emotion by an abusive Bro, and Dirk is too complex for my simple brain to analyze. But even Dave and Sollux the cool kids crack, like sollux’s excessive cursing or Dave’s love for the Mayor.
Calliope Jade and Terezi show a lot of emotions all the time.
It's a fun thought experiment that you can learn more about yourself from.
Learning that I was a page of light taught me much. And I heavily identify with it and what it means for me. But is it "real"? No. But you can still learn from it and form a stronger understanding.
I personally feel like prospit and derse are like hope and rage, but with the level of notionality/phisicality and hot/cool switched

Technically speaking, Dave's "cool kid" is a faced, a front because he is a knight. While Dirk "cool kid", is based on the cold shoulder, the cold hearted, the apathetic. So I agree, even when they do cool stunts that's all those are. Cool Stunts.

I suppose having Breath and Blood in the middle of the Cool/Hot part of the Aspects would mean that those are highly "volatile" and flexibe aspects, inherently bound to change and duality of expression
So the classpect system is basically an esoteric personality matrix, like myres brigs.
As a personality grid, it is best used in a descriptive sense, to use it to describe what you are, rather than a prescriptive sense, to use it to decide things about you and your life.
Saying you are this or that title is all cool and fine, but you get into dangerous territory when you start to change yourself to better fit the title you think you are.
Saying this, i am something of a hypocrite. I love to use title theory prescriptively, and this has led to some rather crazy stuff. I would suggest to anyone going this way that you are not a one dimensional character, and its fine to decide you are one title one day and another the next. I imagine this is a lot like being gender fluid, there is not and should not be a rule that says you have to stay consistent in our identities.

I just realized that calliope was a Harry Potter spoff (I already knew this part) but lord English is a Time Lord. There are different versions of Lord English Doc scratch, gamze , cal, Hal. Think about it. Doc scratch. Doc [record scratch] essentially means Doc Redacted. Or Doctor who.

I think in the sense you were talking about in the end they are "cool kids" but I do really have an argument either way
I think Hussie was saying...almost the opposite of what you said he was? Paradox Space deals in what can _only_ be known, ie platonic ideas. There is no in between, there is no subtle. This is the _opposite_ of an actualized dog which you have a real and varied relationship with.
Not that Homestuck _itself_ doesn't deal with the minutiae of reality, but _Paradox Space_ doesn't. I guess that's part of what makes it so cruel.
Hussie wasn't talking about Paradox Space in general here, but specifically about the Heavenly Machina Sburb provides to do ectobiology, alchemy, and other stuff like that. Paradox Space is tied to Sburb, but it isn't Sburb itself since by nature it also comprises everything that physically exists in reality,, whether in the game or in distinct universes.

Classpecting made me learn a lot about myself, Rage being about entertainment made me realize how much I enjoy making people laugh, I love playing female characters in a play whilst using a loud and masculine raspy voice, or playing an invisible drum in marching competitions whenever we forget to bring extra drums, it makes the enemy bands laugh and shit. but most importantly, I realized that holy fuck classpecting is stinky.
I've been focusing on my Classpect - Page of Light - a whole lot and I think it's starting to slowly but surely overtake my life, the more I realize how accurate a statement it is to me. I've been obsessed with learning, I yearn to be in the spotlight, but nobody seems to notice me and, no matter how much I learn, I just don't get some things and it bums me out :(
Also, you missed Breath and Blood, which I get: they're both in the middle, thus they both likely share the Cold/Hot Duality. They're simultaneously single-focused and group-focused Aspects, able to change depending on who wields them and how.
Dooms assosciations with fire and time feels like it would make it a hot aspect. Its place on the wheel has always confused me

I find it highly unlikely that anyone will perfectly fit a 1 of 14 relationship with any of these 12 ideas and only this relationship
They're not nearly as rigid as that, they're just archetypes. For example, take Commedia dell'Arte characters, which have influenced just about every bit of storytelling media in the west that came after. You'll see Pantalone in Shylock from Merchant of Venice, Count Almalvia from Marriage of Figaro, Guillenormand (Marius' grandfather) from Les Misérables, Mr. Peechum from Threepenny Opera, Dr. Frank-n-Furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show, Count Olaf from Series of Unfortunate Events, even Mr. Krabs from Spongebob. They are not the same character, but they fall into similar patterns of characterization and how they play into the plot. The same is true of the Classes and Aspects of the Classpect system.

it can because the classes are independent from the aspects, you can have an active class while having a passive aspect and vis versa just as you can have a passive class and aspect or active because youre class is the How you interact and youre aspect is the What you interact with. if that makes sense
Its possible for contracdictory inputs to become either Neutrality(apathy, lack of interest) or Ambivalence(confusion, feeling strongly in favor or opposition of conflicting approaches).
It's not that simple. You can't just sort every act and attitude a person has under a passive or active binary. The three parts of your classpect, class aspect and moon alignment, all will influence eachother in complex ways.

passive/active for aspects works somewhat differently compared to passive/active for classes. For the Hot/Cold theory, it's basically scope and area of effect of the aspect itself, whereas class is how you use that aspect and behave. I like to compare it to Cognition and Behavior in psychology to make it a little easier to comprehend, aspect is connected to how you think and perceive while class is how you behave. As someone with an active aspect and passive class as well as being a derse dreamer, it does seem a little more difficult to comprehend how it works, but it's not supposed to cancel one another out
