    The size is amazing on the crewcab, but i think the angle of the seat is the most important for comfort

    As a Carpentry man I first got the crewmax for its better looks and bigger sitting space for the family -all in one. And I have to say I regretted fast. Could never do anything with that smaller bed at the back it was just so frustrating. Traded back in for the double cab one month later.

    Rarely do I have adults in the rear seat but when I do the Double Cab will be fine (or they can walk). Towing capacity of +9,000 pounds and 6.5' bed for family camping gear are my top priorities. I hope to find a 4WD Tundra Limited (2021 or older) that will work for us after the first the year (2025).

    Team dbl cab. The dbl cab is wayyy mlre superior than the crewmax. The dbl cab you get the big center console then you get the rear underseat storage then you get the 6.5 bed. I dint understand crewmax with a topper... That totally removes the purpose of the crewmax rear window.

    This issue exposes a ton of problems with Toyota. Anything less than a 6.5 inch bed is hardly a bed. You can’t even sleep in the bed or haul a four wheeler or haul much of anything. A 5.5 inch bed hauls groceries. That is it! My grandpa’s 99 ford ranger has a longer bed than a tundra crew max! The longer trucks expose Toyota’s poor turning radius which has been the worst since 2nd gen. I went back and bought a fist gen Tundra because I wanted more
    Bed and still a decent cab. For all the good of Toyota, they sure are stubborn to make some options that are much needed. They ditch prior good options and stubbornly persist in Subaru Baja type beds for the crew max. Power train is good. Back roll down window awesome. Suggestion for Toyota truck engineers. B pillar air, work on the turning radius linkage and don’t tell me you can’t when my Lexus turns on a dime with a progressive turning radius. At least a 6.5 inch bed because it is embarrassing when minivans are out hauling you at the lumber yard. Can’t even get a decent size pair of skis in the back of the 5.5 tundra bed. Why force a compromise when you could come easily hit a home run....

    DC all the way. The ONE time you NEED 6.5ft bed you will regret it even if just a few times per year. seat comfort in back of a DC is not bad if under 6ft tall seats and angle are fine for 1-4 hour drives and JUST ENOUGH legroom. Toyota dropped the entire ball from 2007 to 2021 NOT keeping up with the BIG 3 and offer a crewmax 6.5ft bed. Now in 2022 they have done it but NOT spending 53K on one either now too expensive.

    I have the crewmax. I took the back seats out so I could have even more interior cargo space. It's actually big enough for me to lay down diagonal in the back (I'm 5'11"). I have a 5x8 cargo trailer that I paid $1700 for new, to haul larger items so the short bed doesn't bother me.

    I have a new ‘19 Tundra Limited Double Cab TRD Off-Road. I love the decision that I made to skip the Crew Cab and just go with the Double. It’s been fantastic. I already have 15k+ miles on it. My opinion: 75% of the time I drive myself or with just the 2 of us (my wife and I). My kids all drive and are 18 and older. My girls and wife went on a trip from Ohio out to New Mexico, Grand Canyon North Rim, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana where I met up with them and we ended up back in Ohio. 4 people throughout the trip (1 person dropped same day I arrived). The girls, who are 5’6” and 5’8”, are the ones who spent most of the time in the rear seats. I asked them after the trip: “was the double cab ok, or would it have been better to lose a foot bed space (which was full) and gain it in the Crew cab?” They both side the double worked “great!” For them. Again, if I had more than 1 boy - as big as me - and I was driving them a lot in the rear (maybe if they were in high school), maybe I would have a different attitude. However, the Crew Cab is just a luxury that isn’t needed.
    The storage TundraDude34 talks about is awesome (although small). I was able to lock something that I brought back that was inherited in this storage box.
    Yes, I have spent time in the back with my wife or daughter driving Ohio to Chicago. With only three people it was great. I even slept - I’m 6’2” 210#.

    Crewmax has too much space dedicated to the rear seat at the expense of bed space. Double cab is a good balance... besides.... I don't sit in the back.... and anyone that does can tough it out.

  • @y2kbmw

    The end of the video was funny! Your wife is 100% right by recommending the Crew Max over the Double Cab. Flip the rear seats up on the Crew Max and you will be amazed at how much stuff you can fit inside the cab and everything will be safe from the outside elements. Leave the seats down and your passengers will have plenty of room to be comfortable. The very wide 5.5 foot length bed is usually more than enough space for family use.

    I have the double cab. Great for the larger bed and hauling dirt bikes. Kids are gone so I don't need as much back seat room for me and the wife. One thing I did to check rear seat space was to adjust the drivers seat to where I sit vs all the way back. Way more space then a coupe Lol! Even more then some small sedans. I say tundra limited double cab.... you get the auto sliding rear glass, no hump and tool storage, 6.5 ft bed, back up sensors, automatic headlights I believe... you can easily buy after market stuff to make it comparable to a trd pro as far as looks and suspension. Honestly, with the front seats pushed up just a little, there isn't much difference in the back seats. The only real reason to get the crew max is if you must have regular larger passengers or storage in the back seat or just need that room for something. Otherwise, you get the longer bed with the double cab. I also think the DC looks better. This is where the Tundra shines as no other OEM double cab style has as much room.

    Thanks @tundradude34, I was trying to decide on this. I wish the crew max came with the longer bed but you bought up a good point about rolling the back window down for longer items. I won't be using the truck for work and am strongly leaning towards the crew max.

  • @TomyTekOutdoors
    @TomyTekOutdoors 4 роки тому +2

    Thanks for the comparison. I'm in the market for an older Tundra. I need to travel long distances with passengers, so the crewmax would be my preference. I wish the crewmax had a longer bed, but a bed extender works well to transport kayaks. I'll be getting a ladder rack as well.

  • @Pawlyisacat
    @Pawlyisacat 6 років тому +2

    One thing to note for the crew max vs DC is that you will be hard pressed to find a crew max that can hold 6 people. If a crew max has a 5.7L v8 (which most do) it automatically has the bucket seats.

    I've had crewman for almost six years and will have it again in my TRD Pro when it comes in. Also had two tacos with "crew max." Highly recommend it.

    I love my Crewmax, but the only thing really that sucks that u covered was storage compartment not being under the rear seats. That's probably my only gripe but I'll get over it, eventually. I just got it last Wednesday, so I have plenty of time. Lol. Great video by the way!

    I WAS a Chevy guy but I think the quality has gone down. Was looking at SUV. Chevy of course. Due to issues with Chevy. I brought a Toyota. Now I’m looking at trucks Chevy of course. Finding same issue so I’m thinking Toyota again. I say all that to say your videos help me understand different trims and additions. Thanks!

    I'd rather have open space under the seats and no storage compartments. I prefer to use what canvas tool bags or boxes and be able to use the full space when empty.

    Double cab with a long bed increases your towing capacity. I have kids and I don't tow that often, certainly not enough to be the deciding factor of my cab style. Crewmax for me, you can comfortably fit 3 adult in the back of this thing

    Which configuration feels better while towing? I own a lawn business and am looking to get a used Tundra. I will also take this on ski trips with maybe taking 2-3 other people along with me and my wife. I know the crew max is the obvious choice when it comes to hauling more people, but these people aren't very big (they are 5'3-5'9 and less than 130 lbs each) I know the extra room would be appreciated. I'm faced with the problem of do I get the crew max with the shorter bed and am able to haul less stuff on an everyday use, but be able to haul more/bigger people around more comfortably. Or do I go with the double cab and be able to fit more in the bed, and have a tighter fit in the back.

    • @TundraDude34
      @TundraDude34  7 років тому

      +Trevor Myres go look at both, sit in each. I think if i owned a landscaping business, the bed space would be vital, double cab it would be

    My old Tundra was double cab.. New one is crew max. I like the crew max better. I miss the underseat storage...I kept my tow hitch and tie down straps in there.
    I use the truck more for towing than hauling, so the shorter bed hasn't been an issue. Proportionately it looks weird.. Got a giant cab and a stumpy little box. lol

      A good friend of mind is a longtime car salesman, and always said they just can't understand that North americans like maximum living space in there trucks. Im a contractor and even if I wasn't, I could never go less than 6.5foot bed. I always wanted to buy a tundra crew cab but you can't put anything in a bed smaller than 6.5ft. unfortunately Ive had to go elsewhere for size and compromise for a lesser vehicle. This is kinda of ignorant on there part. Are the newer tundras equal in interior space as the F 150 crew cab or are they still smaller. The last time I test drove one 2011.

    • @TundraDude34
      @TundraDude34  7 років тому +1

      +Nick Makris you should check out the double cab Tundra. 6.6ft bed and the backseat fits 3 adults no problem. The crewmax is roomier back there but the dcab can get it done

    Double Cab long bed. I needed to be able to seat 6 and needed the 8' bed. The down side is that this beast is so long it can be a bear to move around in tight places.

    I would rather have the extra cargo bed space - I haul people mainly short distances - 2 hours or less. But when I go to Home Depot or a Furniture store - much better to have the extra space in the bed.

    One of the biggest sales features on my 2007 CrewMax was all the storage space behind the rear seats. The rear passengers already had enough room in my Tundra version. Sacrificing this space just for more legroom for rear passengers doesn't justify surrendering a 6.5ft bed for the CrewMax's 5.5ft bed. I might wait until the 2021 refresh, but more than likely I will look into the Dodge Megacab.

    The year is 2022, I made my mind up that I don’t want a 3rd generation Tundra. So I’m reviewing old videos again and going for 20-21only. Just trying to make my mind up to go double cab or crew max. I had a previous tundra but circumstances changed. Now I’m back in the market for a full-size truck. In my opinion I was very disappointed in the third generation tundra. PS you look younger in this video. Lol 👍🏼💪🏼

    Thank you for this video! I am in the market for a truck for the first time. I've always had an SUV. I have a Pilot and a CRV. I am still deciding which one to give up ... the Pilot or the CRV.
    Also deciding whether to get the double cab or the crewmax. I like the air vents in the rear seats in the Crewmax, but if I get the Crewmax, will I ever regret not having a longer bed?
    The sliding rear window ... yeah its nice, but I am also trying to find usage for that. Why we would want a sliding rear window? At first I thought that one of the benefits of the sliding rear window is if I get a cap or a shell, it will provide air conditioning in the bed. But from what I have read or watched in some videos, I will have to find a boot to connect the bed to the cab?

    • @TundraDude34
      @TundraDude34  6 років тому

      The rear window is excellent for air flow in the cab and also if u have some long pieces of wood, it helps

      The Platinum trim has mostly the same features as the 1794 (minus the western theme) and is an all black interior
