Ep 35 : Strip mining some regolith, Extra hard : Oxygen not included

  • If we are going to build a sour gas boiler we are going to need a lot more ceramic. That requires us to get our hands on a lot more filtration material. We have 170 tons of sand but we need way more material than that. Time to go regolith harvesting.

    1) all recreation buildings. Not just plonked down but setup nicely preferably in separate rooms or grouped up in correct setting.
    2) zoo on 1 of the planets with either all or most animals.
    3) every dupe has a bedroom and bathroom/dining. Could call it a home. This creates a ton of problems!! Ad suits to the mix for a real challenge...

    25:27 the pliers (correction: "pliers 2021") mod recently added an optional feature that turns pliers into dupe errands. so if you feel like the mod is too powerful (like with compact builds that dupes normally couldn't reach to deconstruct pipes in without the mod), you can enable that.

    A little bit of lead where the volcano debris lands will transfer heat much better than a metal tile/steam if you need the volcano debris to cool down faster or to get more heat for power out of the debris. One lead metal tile worth of liquid lead will multiply the process by multiple times.

    • @HappyGingerWolf
      @HappyGingerWolf 2 роки тому +2

      It won't stay lead tho, during dormant periods it'll turn into a solid tile and then new igneous dropped on it won't melt it (because the steam absorbs more temp than the tile)

    • @FrancisJohnYT
      @FrancisJohnYT  2 роки тому +1

      I'm actually ok with most of the temp staying the the debris. I think I will replace the metal tile with an insulated tile. We are extracting most of the heat via the transport rails, which gives us a constant injection of heat over the active and dormant phases of the volcano. I prefer the idea of a little bit of heat all the time instead of big dumps of heat.

    9:32 it's probably too late to say this, but if you put a layer of airflow tiles, then a layer of mesh tiles on top with a liquid in them, then deodorisers, the deodorisers can pull polluted oxygen through the liquid.
    This gives you pure PO2 on the bottom, pure oxygen on top, no wasted PO2 and 100% uptime on the clay production because the deodorisers always have access to a tile of PO2.
    (Also deodorisers have no max pressure so I have filled rooms with 2000 kilos per tile of pure oxygen this way)
    EDIT: Nvm he mentioned it at the end

      I use that water layer technique in my own clay plant.
      Worked very well after I stopped skimping on the amount of water I used.
      It seems that if only a small amount of liquid (I think around 20kg per tile) is present the o2 being produced can and will delete it over time. After I ramped up to several hundred kilos of water per tile it became stable.

    i ve experiment several setup to get ceramic more quickly, it seem that extracting the poluted gaz of 3 tank of polluted water with a a gaz pump to the sanitizer work better cause the sublimation of the polluted water bottle are maxed out.... just putting the sanitizer above the polluted water bottle will overpressurize the bottle that wont emit the required gaz.... so seperate the polluted oxygen from the cleaning process was the key . Not sure how much more regolith you're going to need but you could really automate a lot of that planet. Robominers/sweepers are the obvious start but you can use solid rocket port loaders to put the material into a rocket and then inside the capsule use conveyor loader fittings to pull the regolith right out of storage and dump it into an infinite storage vacuum in your capsule. I haven't tried that recently but you could probably use multiple fittings to speed things up. I did this once ages ago and it worked out well

    ~ 02:00 - How convenient that I made myself a cold oxygen/clay factory for producing ceramic, fed by a cool slush geyser. Basically in its own room, vaccuumed out during inactive period, drips down to the offgas chamber, 3 layers of 18 deoderizers with clay/sand handled by automation. Deoderizers are on a mesh tile with crude oil, below that is the airflor tile, below that is the 1 tile high channel for pwater to offgas. The deoderizers can grab past the crude oil, and only oxygen is in the upper chamber. Incidentally, the cold oxygen is great making oxylite for rockets and keeps inside cool when bringing in hotter materials. You'll probably have a completely different method though, I'll wait to see what it is.

    For the regolith planet you can send over tons of liquid methane and have it be purely automated with like auto diggers and stuff (Unless the interplanetary launcher requires dupe activation then rip). The power requirements shouldn't be a problem if you set a hard limit to it. Plus when in doubt send over more methane than you need and have it be in an infinite gas storage container to siphon off what's needed per cycle.

    I guess you've already sorted out your rocket exhaust issue. I always wondered if it would be better to use the electronic gates and use automation so that when rockets aren't landing or taking off the doors would be fully open and not blocking anything. I guess though if steel doors are melting that won't work. That said part of me wants to see if it would be possible to do that, but use steel radiant pipes with liquid aluminum as a "coolant" to extract heat from the doors before they melt.

    • @FrancisJohnYT
      @FrancisJohnYT  2 роки тому

      You can run 10kg pipes of super coolant through the doors and cool them down fast enough. There is a lot of thermal mass in the steel and coolant so it won't boil the coolant in the pipes. As an added bonus you just run the coolant through a steam room to cool it down again.

    • @danfr
      @danfr 2 роки тому +1

      @@FrancisJohnYT Fair. I've just loved the idea of using liquid metal as a coolant. Or making an ice box by melting enough gold for it to form a box of tiles when it solidifies. So the resulting ice box has more thermal mass and conductivity than anything else.

    Can't the water be off-gassed any other way that doesn't require you to go in there anymore? I am thinking a layer of pwater on the bottom with a hydro sensor and liquid vent. Whenever you are below 900kg, add more pwater.
    Edit: Depending on when the vent over pressurizes, the sensor might not even be needed.

      Its to do with how Bottles of water act vs regular tiles of water. You get a lot more off gassing from the bottles which is why we use bottles (deconstructing full liquid tanks leaves 5 ton bottles behind)
