    My wife and I both have 50inch RZRs, the one state forest we ride in here in Pa is 50 inch only. The really bad thing is many of there gates lean a lot and you have to be careful you don't hit your roof, roll bar, or anything else on your machine. Some of the gates we have to totally avoid. We have e-mailed and sent them videos and not much response. I guess what I am saying hope they don't make the 50inchers any wider.

    Doug,I have been researching this 50" subject myself before I buy my first side by side and have yet to find any document from the US forest service, USDA, Colorado state parks and so on that gives any specific definition of how to measure a machine to meet the 50" width. I talked with a regional trail manager here in Denver and his statement was that you measure the widest part of the machine and that is the standard but there is not a "document" to back that up. He did confirm that if you pass through a "50" " gate with a machine that is greater than 50" wide just because it fit does not make it legal for you to be there!. When I told him about measuring from "wheel to wheel" he said that is incorrect, it is the widest part of the machine period. The forest services contention to wider than 50" machines with roll cages on a 50" tree lined trail is that when on an off camber slope you are banging trees with the roll bars and they get complaints and have to do trail trimming that costs money where there usually is not a budget factor for that operation. common sense dictates that 50" wide to me means at the widest point!

      Gates are set a little wider than 50" so that a machine can get through them without being perfectly lined up. That does not mean that if you fit through that your are legal. Polaris is wrong and it is very, very sad. The measurement is indeed measured at the widest point. I wish we had the power to do something....

      I was getting ready to buy a RZR 900 Trail .... So are you guys telling me it won't fit through the gates ..... That is the whole purpose of buying a trail machine ...... Shsssssssh!

    If Polaris thinks they will push Forrest service in all these jurisdictions they continue to give the finger to their customers and dealers. Too bad... they make an incredible product. We own an 800 and a WC Trail. Want to buy a 900 but cant. They will not fit through the gates in Colorado. Polaris.. thanks for screwing up our hard fought relationships with FS and making more work for those of us who work so hard to keep trails open.

    I think the 50" gates are silly in my opinion. They should be a few inches wider to allow for extra tire width. Does it really matter if the machine is 52" or 50"? Its not like it won't fit on the trail anymore. I think a couple inches of extra width is a good thing, makes it a bit more stable and sure footed on any off camber stuff. Many 4x4 quads with offset wheels and wider tires are 50" wide or more.

      +Greg Rowe Well, the trails are 50" wide so I would be under the impression that that means 50". Plus, where do you stop? 52 or maybe 54? Why not 60" or 72"?
      Around here the gates are set at 52" so there is a little wiggle room to get through but that typically does mean for machines 52" wide.

      The trails in reality are probably a little wider. I suppose you have to make the cutoff somewhere. At least an extra inch or 2 to allow for wider tires. The Honda Pioneer with the aftermarket wheels and tires you have is probably over 50" now too. I've never ridden a trail system with gates to limit access anyway. I have yet to own a utv but am contemplating one, a used 2014 Wildcat Trail is for sale for a good price at my local dealer. It has some aftermarket wheels and tires on it so it most likely now exceeds 50" as well. The main reason people buy 50" utvs is to be able to ride atv trails. Obviously the power to weight is better too and are usually less expensive as opposed to the wider machines. And they will fit better in your garage or shed, not to mention your trailer or toy hauler. So I guess they have a lot of advantages over the bigger utvs.

    My stock 570 was over 50'' but when I adjusted the stock shocks it came in to just at 50''

    Aftermarket tire manufactures should do the lobbying of officials for a realistic adjustment. It will affect their sales. Aggressive driving tears up more trails.

      2015 RZR what? 570s are 50". It's just the 900s that are wider.

    I don't appreciate Polaris pushing it. Govt officials are not just NFS. You have states, counties etc. And some places they are law enforcement officials. Non of these enforcers are up on the nuances and just make riding miserable for us owners. Straighten up your act Polaris. You make great machines but your always pulling something to make it rough on your customers.

      Love 50". That's why I got into the machines. Real tight woods riding etc. It hugely expands the number of miles and riding areas. And you aren't competing with full size off-road vehicles.

      Nothing. Polaris still contends that they are correct to measure 50" at the wheels. I know the Forrest Service doesn't care for that take much .

      I think you misunderstand the reason for a 50" wide machine... It is to be able to ride on the 50"-only trails found around the country. They typically have gates to keep wider machines out. It would be sad for someone to buy a machine that Polaris advertises as a 50" wide machine and find it won't fit on the trails.

    • @kong3
      @kong3 7 років тому +3

      They do make wider units, just the TRAIL is supposed to be 50" because they share the trails with ATV's and those trails are special 50" trails. Big Deal.. yes because pass through gates are 50" wide usually with pipe opening that just lets you through. This keeps heavier small cars and wider heavier UTV's off those trails.

    • @kong3
      @kong3 7 років тому +1

      They DO make all kinds of machines including wider and higher passenger counts. These PARTICULAR machines are designed to be legal and make use of the extensive 50" trail systems.

    Does the government mandate 50 inches?? I was not aware of that. I just assumed that this is somebody's preference. Like Max Reid, and Casto Canyon. Who actually makes those 50 inch gates.

    • @ATVTVCOM
      @ATVTVCOM  8 років тому +1

      +Paul Bottino That is a fairly complex answer, but to try to simplify, anything 50" wide or less is classified by the government as a trail and not a road so therefore it is controlled differently.

      +ATVTV Ok, I see now. I was thinking that the evil BLM can regulate this, can't they?

    • @ATVTVCOM
      @ATVTVCOM  8 років тому +2

      +Paul Bottino It's pretty much a Forest Service and State Park thing with some cooperation from the BLM too. Trails are much more difficult to change or remove than roads - go figure.
