Spalted Ash with a little foot - Wood turning

- A lovely small spalted ash bowl. I am going through a bit of a 'foot' phase at the moment.
The broken screw was really annoying, as I've not have one of those for at least 2 years.
The bowl measures 6" x 2" (150mm x 50mm)
Thank you for watching.

Really nice piece of wood, expertly turned into a beautiful bowl.
Very kind. Thank you 👍
Well, that blank didn't give up without a fight. Pretty little piece.
It certainly tested my patience! Thanks for watching 👍
Spectacular spalting!
It really is! 👍😎
Love the wood. Good work.
Thanks 👍
Nice bowl. That’s what I discovered with oil finishes - it takes so long to dry and I want instant results 🌞
Same. Oil can be so beautiful and long lasting, but the waiting is the biggest challenge 😎👍
Nice piece, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Nicely done.
Thank you! Cheers!
I hate to say it, but I KNEW it was going to fly off the lathe. On the bright side, the foot did not break (I had that happen yesterday AND the day before). I really like that oil finish. It didn't really darken the wood at all. It actually highlighted the spalting.
Yeah. Thankfully no damage done when it slipped off. I’m going through a bit of an oil phase. 👍
I see that. You inspired me to venture beyond my normal sanding sealer and friction polish. I through three coats of polyeurathane on a lided bowl, but found that it looked much better if I then steel wooled it down and used a cutting board wax on it. Experiments.
Beautiful sir
🤩
To remove a stuck screw, use a plug cutter
Or a mole wrench 🌞
Totally agree. Just couldn’t find my set in my messy shed! 🤣
Beautiful grain!
I had a screw snap off recently. I marked it, then turned away the wood on either side of it which left a ring of wood inside the bowl. Then I just chiseled out the ring. Might consider getting some locking pliers. There’s a brand named “Vise Grip” that’s sold all over the USA. Not sure if it’s available in the UK but Amazon probably has them
The frustrating thing was not being able to find the right tools in my very messy shed. Thanks for the tip. 👍
@@RDMWoodturning In a former life I did autobody repair for most of 20 years. Used Vise Grips of various styles all the time and still have about ten different types. Fixing broken stuff comes naturally 🤷🏼♂️
