I think it’s way better than that. It’s a back door pilot for a show for sure. The wacky spa guy. Her back story of being a daughter of a king, which didn’t matter at all for this episode.
Guys, you need to go back and watch the closing credits!!! Please react on camera to it at the start of the next Angel episode you do after you see this!
This episode makes a big swing and doesn't fully connect, but I will always give it credit. To this day, it's the only episode of television ever made that dares to address Female Genital Mutilation. It's a passion project for Joss who worked extensively with Equality Now, the leading charity combating the issue in the world. He went heavily to bat with the network to be allowed to make an episode on the subject and while there are a lot of things that could be improved I'll always give him props for trying to bring more people into the cause to stop something so barbaric.
I love that if you watch closely throughout the series, David Boreanaz breaks character with his chuckles in scenes where Angel need to be not laughing. He tried his best to hide it.
In Buffy, Wesley was a villain of sorts, an obstacle, a representation of the old guard that wanted to limit and control Buffy. So not a character that was meant to be admired but looked down upon and ridiculed. In this show, they are transforming him slowly into a fully fledged character.
One thing to remember about the man who got burned in the beginning. He's probably didn't know anything about the supernatural or demon dimensions. "I'd just leave & go home." Dude!!! Someone is locked in a crate, screaming in pain, & you just walk away!!! I thought you were in the medical profession!!! At least call 911!!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Whenever I see the title of this episode my first thought goes to the unrelated cover song _She_ by Elvis Costello, perhaps because I want to get my mind off the episode itself or because I just enjoy that cover so much.
This episode gets more hate than it deserves. Although the allegorical and symbolic aspects are less than subtle, the fact that it was even made is remarkable. Marti Noxon (writer) and David Greenwalt (director) made a bold statement, and I’m surprised that the WB network didn’t can it. In spite of its flaws, I believe this episode challenges one of the most heinous cultural practices of our time (ancient and modern). That’s not something you see every day on network television.
@@SutraRein-xy4qrHow would they know if no one told them, genius? Didn't see you offering up information ahead of time. But that would require kindness, decency, and possibly SOME form of intelligence, which is something you seem to be lacking. The end credits usually don't have extra footage to it. But congrats on being an ass with no point just because you can, as if that makes you somehow better 🙄...
I’ll never understand the hate toward this episode. I don’t think the execution was perfect, but it has some fantastic character moments. I actually prefer it to the previous episode.
It is a comment on the country’s that “castrate” women to keep them under their “rule”. It is a serious thing that happens in the world. I believe the actress would only do it if it was a statement episode, but I could be wrong.🤷🏼♀️
She was a disturbing episode in which both Jheira and Angel even though they want to help the helpless, are more concerned with their own species (Angel of course a Vampire, but was human). Jheira cares little for humans, and Angel does not like this. The spinal lobotomy very hard to watch, adding to the brutality of the episode. We can see there is no love lost with Angel and Jheira at the end but a mutual grudging respect. To be honest I thought this is one of the weaker episodes of S1, and is definitely not a fan favourite episode. Angel and Wesley dancing does provide us with some much needed hilarious comic relief.
I only watch the dance scene and credits for this episode 😂

“How is he so awkward?”
Wesley is an English public school boy. He probably only ever met two women growing up. His mother and the school matron.

Filly: it’s a young horse. For some reason posh Englishmen used to use that as a term for attractive young women.
I mean, it's better than calling them bitches.

This story is a really interesting way to bring awareness to FGM, which happens around the world and even in the USA.

Vampires have fingerprints. They're just so old that the prints are not on record.
Watch the credits! That one showed them having fun…like bloopers.

Interesting. Mine goes to "She" by Abney Park. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

you forgot the credits!
That would mean concentrating and they seem incapable of that.
@@SutraRein-xy4qrthat was mean.

I think I read that this was a potential precursor to a spin-off serues that never happened. I could be wrong though...

The episode has its moments but it is my least favorite of the season. The dancing is very funny though.
Hey it's the worst episode of Angel
It's the episode I always forget exists.
I actually like this episode, so...
@@AshLee92490 There's this movie I love called Stuart Saves His Family and I think I am the only person alive who enjoys it.
@@jcarterlaI can we forget that dance scene?😅
i’d say there are worse in s4
