I've said for a while that Ukraine should henceforth name their weapon systems "Debris, Debris2, Debris3" etc. The next facility hit by 'debris' will be a complement to their enemy like it or not...win, win.
It is called " Appeasement". This has never worked before, but politicians like it because they look like they are doing something, and usually they Will be out of power when the next invasion occurs.
You might do if you had already lost the territory and had no way of getting it back anyway and as a part of that settlement you guaranteed the safety of the other 87% (i.e. NATO membership). Zelensky would take that. The problem is persuading Putin. Trump could sell it to him by agreeing that Crimea is historically part of Russia, the Donbas was contested territory and the land bridge to Crimea is a strategic necessity for Russia. So he'll portray the settlement as a triumph for his friend Putin and offer guarantees that no foreign troops or long range weapons will be sited in Ukraine. And offer removal of all sanctions on Russia and international acceptance of the new boundaries. That may be enough face savers for Putin to accept. It's still ultimately a failure for him though because he wanted to keep all of Ukraine in his sphere of influence, not just a little piece of it. The remainder of Ukraine, as a NATO member, will then be as safe as Poland. If Russia invades again that automatically kicks off WW3 and they have the entire might of NATO on their side. Could that all happen? I don't know. But I'd be quite happy if it did.

10 years? More like a minimum of 15-20 years, and that is assuming a good to great economy, a high birth rate, a complete overhaul of Russian Army strategy, tactics, organisation and equipment design.
Lets be honest: It's not happening. Likely not this century. 15-20 years for the Economy if corruption doesn't stagnate it. 10-15 years to see the birthrate climb. 40-50 years to see population levels rise sufficiently. So 65-85 years. And my guess is - it takes longer. The problem for Russia? Trade sanctions aren't coming off anytime soon. And that means Canadian energy products will be very much added to the list of competition to Russian exports. Russia's Spent Forces should never be allowed to recover! Recognizing that "never" is a very long time but it may take generations for Russian people to understand democracy. Any Trade-off to benefit Russia must be restricted to aid for the people off Russia, not the bureaucrats and Oligarchs. The Baltic issue MUST allow local nations to confiscate so called 'ghost' tankers and discharge cargo minimizing risk of environmental damage.

Do not forget, if kremlin is given a time out, that does not mean people stop dying and suffering.
