President Zelenskyy did not offer territories. He said that an option is to get these territories back by diplomatic means.
Any territorial concession would be a disaster for Ukraine, for the democratic world and for the entire world. Neither Ukraine, nor the democratic world can afford such a loss.

America and nato need to come to grips that there will be no piece until Russia withdraws from Donbas at least, and /or Ukraine joins nato formally. There is no peace unless Putin precluded from even thinking of reinvading Ukraine again .that said, Europe needs to step up with real money and munitions and weapons. We can deal with Middle East and there is no risk with Taiwan if Putin loses in Ukraine. We need integrated eu forces, hi teroperability of air forces. Joint procurement - e.g. combo of grippen nd f-35 for Eastern Europe.

Land concession, signing death or exile to Siberia warrant for all non-Russians within. How to bring back the children and residents already shipped for "re-education? What of damages, rebuilt, illegally stolen resources (wheat, coal, industry, business and residential equipment, etc.), cost of demining, and compensation to familes of those lost or wounded? If Crimea is retained, why should Russia re-start Black Sea Fleet and its base when Ukraine has fully defeated it?

In commenting on Russia’s ability to absorb losses and keep going the analogy is always with WW2, but never with WW1 when Russia did capitulate and where frontline losses were a major factor in that capitulation. Only a desperate country would throw technical specialists and untrained men freshly plucked from city streets into meat assaults. Ukrainian troops may justifiably be weary but they are hardened warriors and the survival of their nation depends on them. Russian troops are, by and large, relatively inexperienced and are in Ukraine for financial gain.

I'm not convinced that Russia's 1500 casualties per day is "unsustainable". With an admittedly larger Soviet Union, they were sustaining casualties of 10,000 per day in front of the Seelow Heights at the dying stages of WWII. And Russia effectively ignores the numbers simply urging their womenfolk to produce more babies for any future meat-grinder incursion they may initiate. What is unsustainable is the loss of heavy equipment as Russia does not have the manufacturing might of the USA and Canada (and to a smaller extent the UK) which supplied huge numbers of trucks and other equipment to the Soviet Union during WWII. Russian soldiers in Ukraine are moving to the front on EV scooters and golf buggies and on foot, logistics are relying on North Koreans carrying heavy back packs. But this does not mean Putin is going to give up or negotiate any time soon.

    • @karsten11553

Good point about the equipment, but the casualty question should not be overlooked either, as history tells us. The myth of endless russian manpower is a myth.

    • @frankstonrat

The only thing I'd say about comparing the USSR's willingness to sustain casualties in WW2 and Russia's willingness to sustain casualties in the Ukraine invasion is that the former truly was an existential struggle. The USSR had plenty of reason to fight and die. I doubt your average Russian sees Putin's war as existential, though.

Butter is being sold in security packs and has to be under lock and key. The only way to get access is to go to the cashiers who decide his much can be purchased only most super markets. Potatoes have increased in price by 74% since August. There's been lots of shop lifting due to people not having the ability to afford basic food stuff. Much of this has been reported in the Russian newspapers. Not quite the thriving economy that Putin tries to convince the outside World is happening under his leadership.

The really great thing is Russian arms manufactures can no longer sell their weapons abroad, at least using money? Added to that they have no more tanks in reserve? Slowly drying up on everything in Russia? We may soon find out if Putin has any nuclear weapons that work?
