That mustard gas was nasty. My grandfather, a US Marine in WW1 got some of it in his respiratory system, and had medical issues when he came home. He died at 43 because of that gas attack.
Thanks for explaining that. When I restored my DDay jeep I went with the yellowish color based on the historic photographs. I m glad to know I made the right decision!

As a side note I help run a WW2 USAAF Museum in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk and we have a large rectangle and "i" shape painted on the side of the original Control Tower in yellow!. This was the gas paint in case of chemical attack and was able to be seen from most of the tech side of the airfield. Keep up the good work.
What mystery juice did you use to turn it red as I take it you don't have a secret bottle of mustard gas to use for the test, and thank you for always bring new topics to inform use jeep nuts keep them coming
When I was in the RAF in the early 80s we had a patch on our NBC suit that would turn blue if Nerve agent fell on it. Sometimes your guarding role was to stand outside and report in when it turned blue.
I was given a can of vesicant paint by a very generous fellow jeep owner. He had bought it but his wife wouldn't let him put it on the vehicle he took the kids for rides in. Anyways, He gave it to me and I mixed it thoroughly and painted a small sheet of steel as a sample. Once it dried, I took it to be color matched because I also don't trust 1940s chemical reactions. But, suffice to say, mine was the yellow/brown color.

I’ve Been a subscriber for a little while now and I’ve just bought my first jeep (dream vehicle) at 22!😁 Just wondering since I’m relatively new to owning a old vehicle could you do a video on the basic maintenance of a jeep? IE filler levels- engine oil levels- brake levels- water cooling levels so on and so on etc? And quick fixes?? Really would appreciate it! Many thanks! Happy jeepin! Lewis.
The Jeep is the easiest to own for sure. I am in the process of restoring a chevrolet g506. And they are big trucks. The jeep can tuck away in the garage quite easily
I'm guessing the early paint would be visible in black and white photos and film so you may be able to see it in war time films (not movies)? Was this paint used during the Korean and Vietnam wars or later?
