for some (not understandable) reason these (used) machines are sold for very high price, while a gantry CNC router will do everything this machine does and more + it is more precise and programmable. It is like people who own these old machines don't want to admit they lost money due to technological advances
Well, sub 3k for a machine with tooling is a good price. When you consider some of the chucks I have costed almost that much. That said, lathes can do things CNC routers can't, and CNC routers can do things lathes can't. In a machine shop there is a place for both.
@@martinprecisiontoolswell, you can put a rotating platform on a gantry CNC router (so called 4th axis) and you will have the part rotating and the spindle with the tool rotating, works as replacement for lathe
