Вставка
  • Опубліковано 20 лют 2015
  • Use a Sump Pump in your yard when there is No Gravity fall to the street. In other words, when its uphill from your low spot to the street. A good Sump Pump will easily lift the water up and push it out to the street.
    We recommend using a Zoeller M53 or M98. Bith these pumps are great pumps for lifting and removing water.

    Thanks for posting. Had a contractor do mine and ran 3/4 pvc for 100’ run and first pump lasted a couple months. No check valve and poor French drain work. Good to see how to do my own better when I dig out their shoddy work.

    I was a property claims adjuster for 24 years with a major carrier. I have inspected thousands of houses and I would like to add that a "sock" should be around the slotted drain line.. They will fill with silt over time and will eventually clog. I have had 3 basement walls, for example, fail because the drain lines at the base of the basment's walls (on the outside) filled with silt over time and eventually stopped working properly. Not hating on the video at all. Those concentric rings that surround the drain lines encourage sediment to build up by limiting its movement in the pipe. As the water in soil drains into the lines it carries dirt from the ground with it. I have seen this time and again

    So I have an issue where We are blocked off from having anywhere to discharge to. Our back yard is an absolute bog. The entire yard turns into a mud pit every time it rains and we live in Alabama so it rains a lot. What can I do without anywhere to discharge too? My initial Idea has been to create a giant gravel pit in the back of the yard and discharge it all to that. Beyond that i have no clue. Our property is in the lowest part of the neighborhood so we catch all the run off. We have been in this house a year and near as I can tell the previous own has done nothing to mitigate this.

    Chuck, is it possible to install a sump pump in line with your french drain line or tee off the french drain and be able to drain both from the french drain line and discharge out with the sump pump? We get super heavy rains near the gulf and with the heavy clay soil, the 4" french drains on either side of the home can't keep up. I wanted to augment the existing drains rather than ripping them out and replacing them with larger 6" lines.

    • @EMC3Darts
      @EMC3Darts 3 роки тому

      @@phiksit No you just wouldn't put a one way valve on the line. You aren't supposed to in exterior installations for this very reason. The water will fill the sump crock which should be lower than the frost line to protect the seals on the pump. The water that didn't make it out the tube shouldn't be enough to start he pump again. The crock sits above a pile of stone, so that stone has to fill up with water before it kicks on anyways. This lets the water naturally dissipate.
      If the volume of the line is so great that it would kick your pump on when it all returns, the best thing to do is add a serviceable 1 way, somewhere in the line (like a halfway point). Ideally you are sending water up hill to a height then angling the pipe downhill to a low. So the return water is limited. On your terminal floats, a 90 deg pipe with a hole in the bottom is used. Any resting water works it way out naturally (when placed above stone).

      Problem is you have a freeze line but you also need the water to drain to the street. So there will always be water above the freeze line - unless you remove the pump and store the pump during the cold season. Remove the pump and release the check valve to remove all the water from the pipes. Otherwise, I guess you could install heating elements to prevent them from freezing over.

    Hey chuck, i had a similar system installed on my property. Any idea how often this pump kicks on and runs then kicks off? I'm monitoring mine and it pumps a good bit of water for 10-15 seconds then takes about 30-45 seconds and pumps again. This is during a light rain. My question is, is this common and all based on the float valve raising and lowering? Should the pump run constantly during a down pour? Thanks!

    • @wrenchboostboi8994
      @wrenchboostboi8994 3 роки тому +3

      Sounds like the system is missing the check valve… the pump emptys the basin, but then many gallons of water inside the ground pipe all flow back downhill into the basin and the process repeats itself. Depending on the amount of rainfall the basin should fill in anywhere from an hour or up to 5 minutes if a torrential rain, then pump kicks in and empties basin in about 1 to 2 minutes, then repeat

      This system doesn’t seem meant for cold climates at all… not buried deep enough. If I install a pump and my output is going up hill to the street, how do I keep the discharge pipe empty so it doesn't freeze? Check Valve will keep it from going back, so pipe will be full. I don't want it to freeze.

    • @CaedenV
      @CaedenV 4 роки тому

      Typically you would not do it this way. You would have it go down-hill to keep most of the pipe empty, and the vertical part of the pipe would be insulated under ground so that it would not freeze.
      If your pipe needs to go up hill, then maybe a sump is not the way to go. Digging down and burying a barrel with rock may be the better option to allow more water retention so that the ground can have more time to absorb the water before it collects on the surface. But if it rains constantly and you can't get a large enough resavaur under ground then this would not help much.
      Maybe make a drain so you can essentially turn the system off during the winter?

      I wonder about that too. They are in Florida so it shouldn't matter to them. Pipes and pump will freeze up here no doubt. I imagine we would need an easy way to remove the pump during winter months. I don't think it will be able to stay in the ground since it has standing water which will freeze and burst the pvc. And destroy the check valve. I would think the best thing is to remove the pump each year in October then reinstall it in April/May. If remove the pump and release the check valve, that should empty the water from the line.

    You need to get away from using that corrugated shit. It's worthless. I've been installing yard drains for 35 years and I only use 4" SDR35 or class pipe.

      You should also remember it's up to the person who is paying him to do the work. They may not have wanted to pay for the good piping.
