  • Heyo Antonio!
    I hope everyone is staying safe in the comfort of their own homes! If you don't know what to do with the spare time that you have, why not learn something new and interesting?
    Today we cover the topic of astigmatism.
    It is a very tricky concept to grasp, but if you familiarise yourself with the principles that I lay out in this video it should be quite easy to understand.
    Stay tuned for more content as I will be working very hard during these times to get as many high quality videos up on this channel as possible.

    Want to talk about weird eyes, I am nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other. And, both eyes have mixed astigmatisms. The prescription I wear is the one where my two eyes work best together, but if I cover either eye and just use one eye things are out of focus. Incredibly, because of how the brain works, I actually have 20/20 vision (and depth perception) when my two eyes work together. The weirdest part is I never knew this about my eyes until I needed reading glasses. Until then, my far eye saw far and my near eye saw near so I never knew I had a problem.

    Great video! If the astigmatism level btwn two eyes is more than .50, is it possible that a person has a hard time with eyeglasses prescribed with the proper Rx? I found it quite difficult to get accustomed to a higher -1 cylinder in one eye and a -.25 in the other when viewing though both eyes, even after a time of using new glasses.

    • @AntonioTheOptom

    how can we correct astigmatism in the concept of geometric optics? thankyou for your answer! :)

    • @AntonioTheOptom
      @AntonioTheOptom  3 роки тому +6

      Well, every optical system has its flaws so you can’t ‘eradicate’ aberration, and in the eyes astigmatism is a combination of the corneal and lenticular curvatures. So the most practical way for humans to see better is to wear glasses or contacts!

      I think I can answer this one. My son's eye doctor thought he might have had keratoconus a while back, and mentioned how important it is that he doesn't rub his eyes too hard. If you have a stigmatism, you're more tempted to rub your eyes and risking damage to your cornea.

    • @billbauer9795

      @@syzygy4365 Shocking. I have keratoconus, and now I suspect I got it as a result of rubbing my eyes. When I heard that this is a possibility, I hoped that my source was wrong. The more doctors I hear agreeing that rubbing one's eyes can be dangerous, the more likely this to really be the case. I can''t believe I gave keratoconus to myself...
