- Hello there.
You may or may not know, that Sweetwater has Behringer Pedals for $19.oo. But should you part with that kind of coin? Well, this week I'm looking at the Ultra Octaver. It's octave pedal that lets you choose between one or two octaves down or anything in-between.

Depends on your style. You play stuff like Kyuss or Fu Manchu this is golden.
After seeing this demo, I bought one for a slide guitar. Delicate, but MAGIC ! Cheers.
Snakefinger is that you?
I did the same after giving up with it. I revisited and seem to make some headway with it. It is what it is. Spot on review 🙉
Thank you
I recently picked up the Ultra Octaver and I’m finding that it really benefits from some reverb. I have an Oceans 12 reverb that I’ve paired it with and I quite enjoy the sonic and tonal variety I’m able to achieve with it.
We'll see what it sounds like running a keyboard thru it. Thanks for the demo
I think your going to need more than just the keyboard, you’ll probably need some compression and an over drive pedal or a preamp you can drive more gain into. At least mine it doesn’t cut it really for any situation I could think of.
@@ParallelNewsNetwork Thanks for the heads up. I have a Compressor (tube), a distortion pedal, and a few other pre amp units that will boost the signal. I just want to see what it sounds like with the signal coming from the keyboard. It's an old Yamaha with headphone outputs so I'm sure it will put out a higher signal that a guitar running directly into the pedal when its Stereo to Mono. The pedal was extremely inexpensive so it was worth a go.
@@forsale313 I have it on my old Yamaha psr right now and the problem is the harmonic pitch tones have no sustain. It’s like a noise gate that cuts off the signal after a few moments. The signal sort of cuts in and out.
Let me know if yours works so maybe I know I have a faulty one. Cheers! GL
Just subbed was buying this but you made me sure I have 3 of there pedals including the tube screamer
I bought this pedal and tbh I’m not sure if mine is faulty or what but it’s really hard to get a good sound out of it for me. No matter what I do with the settings there seems to be some sort of noise gate that creates a tone with very little sustain. I tried putting more drive into a preamp but it had little effect. I tried it on a synth and it was the same but idk for 20 bucs at lease I can take it apart and use some of the components and maybe fiddle with it.
This is a real love or hate pedal, it seems like. It’s not my cup of tea, but people swear by it.
Mine just makes a hissing noise
@@dannylamb2721 that’s not good. Is it connected correctly?
Nice demo!!. If I got it right, the direct knob is to set how much of the effect we want ?? THanks
The direct knob is the amount of unaffected tone. So, Direct is like if the pedal wasn't on at all.
@@LearningCurveGuitar Okey. 👍
Good review. You get what you pay for - this is mush. Did you find a good pedal that emulates a bass well?
I’m currently using a sub n up but I’m consider a EHx bass 9
@@LearningCurveGuitar I would highly recommend getting an actual bass. A great inexpensive one is the sterling stingray sub. Very good tones for the price. And then pick up a di box or a Chinese rip off of the tech 21 fly rig. You could probably get it all for under 300. Plus playing the bass is highly rewarding. Just my random 2 cents
Nice slide playing btw
@@Dwightpower88 I do live looping on stage. At this point, not having another thing to carry is a big plus
It sounds exactly like a Boss OC-2, which it's probably derived from. The Range switch is a tone control for the octaves. These analog monophonic octave dividers always sound grungy.
Also you're not using it the right way. It's not for emulating bass. And you can't play chords. Try mixing it in before a distortion or fuzz for a huge lead tone. Listen to Jimmy Page on Fool in the Rain, or Jeff beck on Wired. Those were likely MXR Blue Boxes.
Thanks for your input. Arguably, i am using it the right way, it’s just not the right tool for the job I’m trying to get done.
Got one today. No affect on the high E and B strings. Signal drops in and out on G string. Mild fuzz on D string. Seems to work reasonably well on A and low E. Not sure this is a pedal I will be able to get any use out of, sadly.
Yeah, it wasn’t what I was looking for either. the thing is, I think it’s supposed to do that. It monophonic and is a reproduction of a classic pedal and some people really dig it. As far as inexpensive octave pedals, I’ve had great luck with the Donner octave. I gotta say though, most of the Donner pedals I’ve bought die in a couple of (2 or 3) years. Best of luck.
i wanted an octave pedal after i heard that Meshuggah bassist Dick Lovgren uses an octvae peda..but after hering the comments...no thanx
I loved my Behringer Octaver but it started cutting in and out on me.
I thought it was my amp. Then I bought all new cables but it's the pedal.
I bought an expensive Octave pedal but I did not like it.
I'm thinking of buying another Behringer and hoping I have better luck. They're so cheap, why not?
I can’t argue with that.
What would the difference between this and the new Octave Divider be? And why would I want one over the other? I’ve never used an Octave pedal.
Thanks
I've never played an octave divider, but for one thing, it looks like it has a ring modulator, which is pretty cool and it looks like you can switch to bass only with a foot switch, which means you could have 2 tones accessible with one footswitch, which is also pretty cool.
The new pedal is a clone of a 70s Mutron Octave Divider. I used to used one of those on bass. They track really well. The Green Ringer is the Dan Armstrong circuit that gives an octave up sound.
I think you're one of the few reviewers who has figured out that to get the most authentic bass sound out of a guitar, you put Direct on zero, OCT2 on zero and crank up OCT1.
I use them to lay bass lines on loops. There are a million other things you can do with them, but that's my focus. 2 octaves down is great for a lot of settings, but it kind of gets lost if you're just trying to lay down the bass.
@@LearningCurveGuitar I've had an Octaver for two weeks now but haven't tried it yet. My old cheap electric guitar was not working and the Les Paul (Epi Studio) I ordered arrived with a snapped neck. But my replacement arrives tomorrow. I'm the same as you, I just want it to lay down some bass lines that sound real. Also waiting to hear what my new Monoprice 5 watt amp and NuX reverb/delay pedal sound like.
@@3DThrills Man, lots of fun stuff coming down the pipe. I've heard really good things about the monoprice. Let me know how that nux reverb delay works out. all the best.
Here's a guy that puts it to good use:

@@3DThrills thank you, I will check that out
i think it can use for acoustic solo performances? like a bass for Strings E and A and chords for strings D G B and high E, am i right?
I don’t know how it will sound, but I don’t see why not
@@LearningCurveGuitar thanks
If it can knock out 7 nation army I'll use it
Give it a shot
Is this polyphonic?
I don’t have the pedal in front of me at the moment, I seem to recall it handled single notes much Better than chords
No it isn't. It's a clone of the Boss OC-2. The newer Boss pedals are polyphonic. This is an analog octave divider. The MXR Blue Box is similar.
It seems it doesn't work...I've got one and It's not very useful to my opinion....
It’s not for everybody
Sounds terrible with the fuzz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
honestly, doesn't sound that great with out it
HORRIBLE
You are not wrong 😀
Sounds like goose farts on a muggy day?
That’s what it said in the manual too, weird
