Couldn't be happier for Simon landing this gig, he's fantastic and suits Purple so well.
I met Simon at a PRS event years ago and I told him I was a huge fan of his playing and totally gushed over him. He looked shocked at first! He was incredibly grateful for the compliment and thanked me profusely. He thanked me! It was like he'd never been complimented before, ever. What a cool memory of a really great and humble guy. So happy for him and am loving all the youtube videos of him on stage with such legends. BTW, I'm still stealing licks from him 🤫
He has EXCELLENT tone and dynamics.
One of the finest guitarists and such a nice dude. Great gig for him.
Simon is so awesome, glad he's gotten into such a high profile shot--hope he keeps up the solo albums too!
I think he's a perfect fit for Deep Purple. I'm finally interested in the band again.
Now, all they need is someone who can (still) sing.
@vitom5513 I know lol
@@vitom5513 Joe Lynn Turner still can
@@vitom5513 Gillan can still sing he just can't scream
Great addition to the band. Looking forward to a new album.
It's just so cool that Deep Purple is still going strong, playing big gigs, and writing new songs.
Still strong? They are about in wheelchairs doing whatever venue? Probably a casino tour. Good lord, even Coverdale admits it's old. Gillian is long gone, I get it, you love the memories there solid man Blackmore put together, but as Robert Plant said...It looks a bit dumb to stand on stage and look so old.
@@user-qp4sy2dp5b Who cares? They don't. I dont.. They ain't much but they still have fans. As Frank Zappa said, "We're just in it for the money".
And yet, Robert Plant is currently playing a venue that looks to have a capacity of about 700 and he looks pretty old. He's not a hypocrite, he certainly isn't doing it for the money, maybe he just doesn't mind looking silly if he gets to do what he loves.
@@edrenas7930 Yes Plant is playing and it's always HIS music, and always a change. It really is me and a million more with the attitude of the jump on a old ship that other's in there youth, say, Gillian did when he cranked out Smoke on the water lyrics, after that terrible fire, or when The New Yardbirds played the Kinetic Playground in Chicago, and got to hear, How many more times for the first time ever, see, it belonged to them. I am not saying you can't play lead guitar. I seen a 16 year old in Sweden, crank out Rock n Roll on a Japan rip of a Les Paul, thru a small Vox amp, and how great he was. I meet Plant in 82, Pictures at Eleven tour in Chicago. I would ask if you meet Plant, would you tell him he is only playing to 700, after a few years back won the best album of the year? I did'nt like his act, but His words are, as the man along with his mates, rewrote the book on rock n roll, say, It get's to a point where you look foolish and aged playing material that is just not fresh, nor, it look's foolish to be old and play it. Hey, rock those Blackmore riffs all night, but to us that saw him play those riffs in his heyday, nothing more thrilling, and he made it look effortless. The best PA system I remember from that period. Not easy with a Marshall and Strat together I would think? Let me know when Purple comes out with a new album, and I shall buy it. Last night I put on Made in Japan, as it just fit to make it til the weekend. So I am a Purple fan, I just see the diminish in music, when bands like Styx are still trying to sing Lorelli. Even Chicago put the tour gear away. Yes, Percy is only playing to 700...but if you just had the other guy with him, and put Led Zeppelin on the ticket, would be a sellout and shear thunder. That is musical power and legend.

Simon is a great player and nice guy. He deserves this and when purple pack in he'll hopefully be on top of every big rock bands gunslinger hitlist
Steve Morse gave deep purple new life after the great blackmore left, Steve found his own feed, playing great, here simon really bringing an hudge dynamic to the band, great, amazing player, much pedals, delays, octafuzz, ect... some effects blackmore used in his 80s rainbow days, so cool he make an old band living again
So happy for him. Still remember him playing with his 3 piece band in Joldelund/Germany and was blown away.
When Steve start in DP 1994, everyone (except RB fans) was speechless how good Morse is. No doubt I'm unconditional fan of Steve Morse playing and writing skills. Steve went over 60, his right wrist got lot of pain and then the fast accurate alternative picking was over, also the new fresh ideas with Purple were at the end and also the producing of Bob Erzin lowered the guitar of SM...So it is clear that Simon Mcbride Start at DP will be on fire! I Remember when I heard P"urpendicular" for the first time. It was absolutely different, higher dynamics, modern concept of song writing (it was clear the Morse signature) the guitar parts were just "Wow...I'm fanatic Steve Morse fan, but I wish all the best for Simon Mcbride and DP...
👍👍
Am also a great Steve Morse Fan forever but am sure Simon is also a great younger musician and saw him live last year near my hometown with DP. It was a great gig.🤌👍
I'm also huge fan of Steve Morse, it's a pity that he was retired from DP. I also wish Simon a good luck with DP.
@@user-su3jc3ne4m I believe Steve left to look after his wife?
Prefer Simon better tone to 👌🎼
I would never had thought there was so much room for revitalizing all those familiar DP parts. His tone, phrasing and those lovely guitar effect noises between licks really hit the spot. He modernizes the material in a powerful, refreshing way and I did NOT see that coming.
Lovely run though by Simon, he comes across as a very nice down to earth person. Heard/seen him a few times before joining Purple, so glad he got the job he's a great guitarist and hopefully will bring back a more rockier edge to the band
Remember seeing Simon supporting Gary Moore at Sheffield City Hall around 1999/2000. Was blown away then. Congratulations Simon. 🎸💪🏼
Great. Love to see this. One of my favorite players! Now with this great band! Seen him in Netherlands years ago. Really great player and great guy!
Absolutely brilliant guitarist!
I was over the moon, that Simon was chosen to play with Deep Purple. He is great fit
i love this guy he is a great player and very tasteful licks and solos ive been in awe of his playing and looking into ordering a retrovibe and plethora thanks to this very video right on simon and tc have a great tour and summer guys rock on!!!
The best guitar tone I've ever heard live: congrats Simon! I got to see him live with Deep Purpple at "Monsters of Rock" in Brazil and it was fantastic!
You obviously never saw Leslie West.
Saw him on Saturday in Banska Bystrica Slovakia. Absolutely fantastic player. Sense of awe...
Many tx Simon, great insightful we love Your playing !!!!!!!!
I love Blackmore and Morse but Simon deserves a rightful place in Purple. Great player with amazing chops
Leaving Deep Purple is the best decision Ritchie has ever made.
Prefer his tone spot on 🇬🇧🎼
Humble and great player.!💖🤘🤘
Simon is awesome - he is blistering fast but melodic as well. Hope to gear him doing their songs. Plus I love PRS too.... :) Look up his 3 piece band stuff.... impressive blues rock stuff
Simon is a monster player. Ballsy and fluid.
Just a great all round player 🎸👍
What a player Simon is. Love his solo work, too. Bravo.
Monster player \m/
Finally, some one on a rig rundown that tells us what speakers are in the cabs. Given the speakers are probably the biggest part of a guitarists tone.
That's one thing I've noticed about Simon. It really does seem like he loves playing ALL the songs.
What a legend and what a sound😮 I’ve seen Simon many times over the years at clinics an shows!! The guy is a phenomenal guitarist🎸🎸 keep up the great work Simon a true inspiration 👍
Can't wait to hear something new from Purple with Simon.😊
...great to Simon in such a vast space in front of so many... FAB!
Great interview.. Best of luck Simon.
Best guitar player on the planet and in the universe!!
Love his accent and voice 🙂
Great player and seems like a cool dude! Great rig
awesome tone!!!!
What a cool and humble guy, and absolutely magnificent player!
Neat video Thanks 👍👋💯🎸🎸. What a neat guy. Hes so cool 😎👍👌
Great sound! Great video! I love the D'addario tuner. Congrats man! incredible playing!
Awesome!!!
Dang tis guy has nice melodic phrasing in between fast runs ... gem of a tone tat PRS ..he really fits in well w t band..wat a discovery.. gonna get me up n playin' mine ..🥰
Love the humble attitude even though instrument wise he's a beast.
Just wish great riff from Simon on new album like the old days...😊
saw him at jazz open stuttgart: wonderful, fresh blood for purple
Great stuff Simon👍
Now bring your (!) band home here..
🇮🇪 🤘
Love checking out any of Simon's rigs
This guys playing is so clean
Great! 👍
Great player
I´m glad that Simon uses the Plethora, I also have it, and I gotta say he doesn´t need those other pedals, the plethotora has everything, you can only bring the drive, boost and wah pedals
That first chord was like....Hell YES!
That tone is lush
классный гитарист-виртуоз.
What a great player! ❤
Ritchie foreverrrrrrr
Fender foreverrrrrrr
Great guitarist !
And he's right about the Plethora. I have an X5 on my board, which gets used so much week after week, and still find out something new about it.! My go to fx staple, amongst all the ones i have.
Pretty sweet tone for sure.
He says everything as so "Matter of fact" but I don't think he realizes how enormously talented he is. Amazing player.
A great!
Would love to hear him play the lead guitar to Bloodsucker off the Deep Purple In Rock album.
🔥
I've been listening to Deep Purple for over 50 years, I was a bass player in a university band and 80% of our repertoire was Purple songs and I can now say that Simon is the BEST Deep Purple guitarist of all time! And this is the real TRUTH!
mmmm nope
i had no idea he was playing with purple!
Simon mentioned GigRig. Sounds like Dan and Mick from That Pedal Show need to hook up with Simon at some point. I'd be down to watch that.
Simon was on TPS years ago. Much different rig than this.
@@prestog1357 ha! I saw that literally right after I commented. Big Brother noticed me and put the old TPS vid as a recommendation when I reloaded YT. At least it's older so I don't feel quite so dumb.
Purple made the right choice when they brought Simon in. Frankly, I prefer his playing over Steve Morse.
Morse is a legendary player in his own career. First with the Dixie Dregs then with his own solo career starting with the Southern Steel album. In Deep Purple he was good but Mr McBride is absolutely perfect as a replacement for Ritchie Blackmore - a fast, melodic and MODERN sounding player. More versatile than Steve Morse IMHO which is NOT to slight Steve in any way at all! If you've not heard Southern Steel by Steve Morse Band then get on it NOW!!!
Great Player and a very friendly guy. I think he fits brillant in the Band. Of course he is not Steve or Ritchi, but that doesn't matter.
I love DP wirh Steve Morse. Much more than Blackmore. I was sad, he left. But Simon McBride is a fantastic guitarist, and obviously, a really nice guy.
I hope, we see him next DP Tour with a new DP Album. Love his tone.
Love that Simon is playing PRS guitars and the model he is showing off is beautiful. I am a huge PRS guy, along with Fender. Next time, Simon, when you go visit the factory on Kent Island, stop on by, I'm in right across the Bay Bridge. Simon fits in perfectly into DP, his guitar skills and tone are great.
Super Puper Passatigy !!!
Great playing! I wanted the Plethora X3 but then I saw you can't have two effects at once, c'mon man! Edit, no, I don't want the larger, more expensive X5
#DanTPSGigRig already built a new pedalboard for Simon.
Simon is rockin' the PRS #HorsemeatOD and the BOSS Space Echo.
New BOSS SDE3000EVH Dual Digital Delay #HolyGrail Echo is included.
Such a class act and killer guitar player. Would love to grab a coffee with him and just talk shop.

.... is the Vega Trem Stock Simon ?
классный гитарист
I've been looking at the negative comments against simon, Blackmore, Morse & McBride have there own unique style, all are good, but as a guitarist myself technique wise i prefer Simon's playing, as the saying goes, each to there own
Blackmore and Steve are giants
So cool! Shall we connect?
Words, Deep Purple...
I need to know about that enormous whammy bar - I need one of those
Looks like a Vega trem.
John Cipollina
He is like Ritchie and Steve blended but just with much better sound! Gary Moore would be proud!
che modello di chitarra è, PRS modello ?
Les Paul. My Dream.
I have liked Simon for a while, he was on a free disc that came with Classic Rock years ago. Awe on the tone and playing. Then he turned up at Snakecharmer album doing good with Laurie Wisefield. Now Deep Purple. The only think I don't agree with is the stereo ping-pong! I always want it mono live; later mixed ping-pong ok. He's a, not a monster, but a helluva guitarist!
With all respect to Steve, but Simon - that's the spirit DP needed
You are a fine guy.
Looked like Steve Morse's old rig, but I see the amps are different. I bet those are his old cabinets, though.
Is Steve Morse gone? Not up on this...
little late on this i guess, he's been out over a year
His poor wife is battling cancer so he was replaced by Simon as he couldn’t commit
Você deve pensar que só os inglêses tem a capacidade de superar insuperável...
Muito metido a besta...
Que o Deep Purple te descarte o mais rapidamente possível...
H U M I L D A D E
Ah thanks…
I don't have previous impressions, but it sounds (literally) to me a great guitarist and hopefully decent replacement of Steve Morse. Wish him a long stay with DP. He is younger.
Wait what? They have new guitarist? What happened to Blackmore?! Going to catch up with the news 💨
Nice. 😄👍
30 years late
Simon is probably the best guitar slinger Deep Purple had. Of course Ritchie wrote or co-wrote all those classic songs and I love his early stuff on studio albums like In Rock and Fireball, but live he was always erratic, could even walk off the stage if he got irritated over something, which he did when I saw the reunion och Mk II in Stockholm in 1986 (I think). Steve Morse has a lyrical side that I admire, but I never liked his soloing, those chromatic runs that make up most of his solos. Simon is perhaps not as unique as Ritchie or even Steve, but he is a phenomenal player and I like his live solos and his live guitar sound is also next to perfect, modern but not to metal modern to clash with the Purple style of music. If he can contribute to the songwriting in an interesting way remains to be seen. The band is reportedly recording a new album, the first with Simon.
I find it kinda intriguing that he uses slanted/A-type cabs lying on the side.
If I remember correctly, that's what Steve Morse already did. Maybe the cabs are from Deep Purple as a band.
@@JoshuaSmits Simon mentions that they are! Interesting, any idea why morse did that? So he could have pure A cabs maybe?
@@lordgraga I guess he likes the spread of them when he walks on stage
There was some Interview with Steve where he said something about it, that he wanted to avoid the usual stack with an angeled top half that has the sound going above his head (literally...) or something like that
I think he didn't use stereo but a wet/dry system
Simon literally mentions the cabs are from the band at the end of this video too, funny that he only needs two parts
It's like hearing Gary Moore play with Deep Purple
17:12 Speakers sounds better with the years ;)
Still sounding good? Just wait 25 years :)
Sound better than Morse... Nice.
