To be honest the scene where the girls beat up Ryuji in my opinion is the worst scene in the game. Yes even worse than Morgana’s tempter tantrum.
They complete deflate the triumph and tension for the typical Women beats up man joke. I would’ve been fine with just Ann slapping him but the fact they leave him unconscious in front of the diet building is callous and stupid. (What If one of Shido’s lackies found him?!)
What could’ve been a great moment of development where the group realizes how harsh they’ve been on him in the past is just used for yet another joke at Ryuji’s expense

I had a strong feeling they wouldn’t kill the #1 homie of the game, but I when it first happened I wasn’t sad, I was low key pressed. I was thinking to myself, WHAT THE FAWK. Ryuji was the first confidant I maxed out and probably my favorite or 2nd favorite character. Second place being Makoto or Ann, 3rd is probably Akechi, etc.
Even if it stays the same in The Royal at least give me the ability to carry Ryuji's ass back home, god dammit Atlus he didn't deserve it.

I personally ship Ren/Akira with Ann because there is just something in their first meeting in the rain where he looks so stunned at the sight of her and she even flashes him that shy smile of hers before Kamoshida comes in and fucks it all up. It just felt like an OTP meeting for the first time.

Imagine how *JOKER* must have felt at Ryuji's apparent "death" here. Ryuji was Joker's first real friend after being forcibly transferred to Shujin, and Ryuji pretty much became his "wing-man" whenever Joker needed him. Joker was so quiet and reserved compared to the girls because he probably didn't know *HOW* he should react.
It's also worth noting that the lifeboat escape cut-scene is one of the few times that Joker actually talks. Joker is the one who shouts "Hang on!" to Ryuji.

I still think it was a massive missed opportunity for Atlus to not link this scene to Ryuji's social link. Like, it's mostly about encouraging him to start doing what he loves again. His performance in this scene could have been different depending on that. Like, if he's still as he was at the start and not training, then it wouldn't make sense for him to make the distance as if he was training.
Well we can treat it like mass Effect 2 where if you don't do the required links then they will die.
Then again people will not be happy to see the party member decrease as a result

That's more on SMT games. Persona games are much lighter on the consequences and so far the only guy i know who got killed off was from P3 and it was supposed to spur the story forward.
(The closest SMT game to Persona is Devil Survivor in terms of social link mechanic. I suggest you guys try that.)
Here's hoping Royal changes the scene so Ryuji's shown his well earned gratitude from the team, instead of getting knocked out and left on the street as if he didn't just risk his life to save everyone else.

While Ryuji didn’t deserve the beating he got, I can still understand the anger of everyone else. They thought he was DEAD, and then he casually walks up and comments on their tears like they weren’t worried to death about him. It’s mostly him not having any tact that gets him beat up and left behind (“What’s this? Your crying face is so not cute.” Was totally asking for it). Yes, he did save them, and no, he didn’t know they thought he was dead, but their emotions are going to override their sense of logic for a little bit. Even gamers felt anger- either at Ryuji or Atlus- so imagine how they felt.

It always makes me uncomfortable watching the girls seemingly pummel Ryuji knowing his history of being abused. I usually just headcanon that they just shook him around with a very rough group hug and he just spazzed out from all the girls (it would help smooth over the nonchalant attitude of everyone afterward, especially Joker).

My favorite one isn't in here, it's from the Nyancave. Mainly because it was a livestream and it got set up perfectly.
Prior to the final showdown with Shido, i sent a Monokuma themed super chat (As per their superchat setup) and asked them which Phantom Thief they would be willing to sacrifice for the cause.
One of them answered Ryuji. I made sure to give them a fair Monokuma themed reminder that they must be so pleased with their choice right at the end of that cutscene.

This scene would have been so much better if Ryuji was gone for longer. The impact of having to go back to Leblanc without him would be a great opportunity for more character growth for the rest of the phantom thieves, and would have a greater impact on the player. Ryuji wouldn't even have to die to get this effect, he could just show up miraculously like he does in the regular scene, but later. This scene just feels like it is dismissing Ryuji's heroic act as nothing.

Damn the crying from Futaba and Ann. Especially Futaba since she reminds me of my girlfriend. Their crying really hit me hard. Their voice actresses can't get enough praise for that.
When i played this, i started crying when ryuji started running. All that history with the track field team coming back to me from leveling up his confidant and just the story in general
Ryuji was definitely my favorite throughout the game, so this shit was definitely heartbreaking for a couple minutes.

Even though it's a total fakeout, the LENGTH that they make you sit through and listen to Ann totally lose her mind and cry is agonizing.
The worst part about this is that, since the medicine didn’t even work, this entire sequence of events was purely for comedy.
What I hate about this scene is that it pretty much punished Ryuji for not dying.
Ann was the only one who was justified in smacking Ryuji. Ryuji probably didn’t even think they would be crying over him.

The point of shido poppin the pills was to show how determined he was to keep his position of power to “steer” the country

They’re pissed because they were all worried sick and heartbroken about him and one of the first things he says is a dumb joke. I know he’s a bit thick sometimes but making jokes about how crying faces don’t suit them was a whole new level of dumb. At least that’s why I was mad with him

I literally just experienced this part tonight. When Ryuji started running, I had to hold my friend's hand (he's played this before, so he knew everything) because I was nervous something would happen to him, and then there was the explosion and I was just *gripping* my friend's hand because he's my favorite character. I can't even begin to say how relieved I was that he's okay.

If you look closely, my man broke his handicapped leg when he landed on the other side of the boat while jumping across the sinking part, but he handled it with his right hand and started running again. I absolutely love his character, willing to throw himself in front of a car to save the person who was blackmailing them once.

Just to clarify why the medicine collapse was worse than usual:
Normally, the Phantom Thieves are able to time their escape and prepare a plan for it, since the collapse doesn't actually start until they take the treasure. Because Shido himself collapsed the palace before they could fully assess the situation, they were unable to find a quick route out of the ship and were in extremely dangerous territory because of it.
I also think that because Shido was dying, the rooms were distorting, unlike every other palace so they got trapped in the maze. How do you think they got out of the maze?

I know what happened in hindsight. That first explosion is what sent him out of that palace. When the Boat was up in flames, Ryuji was already conked out on the grass.
