Hello & How are you? I have SF Sonetto V speakers and would like to ask you for your advice? If you had to choose between the following McIntosh Integrated amplifiers MA8950, MA352 and MA5300, to drive these Sonetto V speakers, which one would you pick and why? Thanks in advance.
Hi. If you can afford it I would recommend the MA8950. It is a 200w integrated amp with autoformers, DAC2 module which features HDMI ARC, and also has hone theater bypass. The MA5300 does not use autoformers and is only 100watts into 8ohm (160w into 4ohm). MA352 has some good reviews but I believe it adds a bit of colour to the music which many people do enjoy and I nearly bought one...reason I didn't was lack of autoformers and the fact that it didn't have all the inputs I needed (no digital input and hence no DAC. If you already have a good DAC and if you don't care for the mcintosh sound associated with autoformers then I think the MA352 may be ok for you. If you can stretch your budget though then go with the MA8950. McIntosh also have a MA9500 that is 300w but that is even more expensive. If you are looking at MA352 and MA8950 then note that Audio Excellence Canada have a UA-cam video where they compare the MA352 with a MA8900...good review. MA8900 is what the MA8950 replaced.
