  • The outer most islands in Fiji, Vulaga & Ogea are hands down, heaven on earth! The village was a great cultural visit with beautiful friendly people. The diving is next level. And of course, the blue water lagoons are the best we have ever seen. We are getting very low on food but loving life and the company of other sailors in the tropical wilderness!

    Not so sure about visitors to these remote virus free islands during these Pandemic times tho. 🤔

    Thanks for another great video. But come on, it sounds cheap to cruise as you are doing in Fiji. You are very privileged to be able to do what you do, i understand it also takes some sacrifices, but its propably a major part of the income the locals have in these tough times in Fiji. Keep doing what you are doing, you are doing so well for your kids.

      Glad you enjoyed it. It’s actually the most expensive cruising we have done. Have you sailed here? We pay a cruising permit and then there is an island group (there are hundreds of islands) with 2-4 villages per island. Each village requesting about $50 each. It sounds like very little but it adds up. Of course they like our money. We are happy to give it and often give a lot more, that isn’t the point. We make the point because we try and help other sailors know what to expect. What’s good and what isn’t! It’s actually illegal requesting more money after paying a permit. We are a sailing channel trying to help sailors or people who may like venturing to these places.

    have you looked at getting a red filter for your gopro for underwater shots? would improve colors

    • @SailingNikau
      @SailingNikau  3 роки тому

      Ours has just died. We borrowed a friends in this episode. I’d like to get a dive camera next time around, but not something to big. The filter is a good idea. I have to put red in each shot as I edit which is time consuming.

      @@SailingNikau just for video or do you want to take stills as well? I use a RX100 VII it's probably the most compact and powerful camera you can get with good underwater housing options that won't break the bank. I only use it for stills but also use strobes. It does do 4k video but battery life isn't great and it does tend to get hot. Video isn't really my thing but lighting makes such a massive difference it may be worth sticking with a gopro and getting a decent lighting set up.

    Borabora, moorea, aitutaki, Manihiki are true paradise on earth

    • @SailingNikau
      @SailingNikau  3 роки тому +1

      Yip been there, but this place is pretty cool! Haven’t been to Manihiki though. But this is my top pick so far. Borabora and moorea are beautiful but a bit touristy and the coral is crap. Airutaki is a difficult anchorage, no cruising for boats but a nice stop off if the weather permits. And the coral is good. This place is hands down way cooler, have you been?
