+MrBill1896 So glad you enjoyed it. Vinaka!
One of the greatest video i have seen in quite a long time.......featuring the late Mr Alipate Mclaren
This brought tears to my eyes towards the end, brilliant video! Reminds me of my longing for belonging as a Fijian (Aussie born) child growing up here in Australia. Like one of the men said in this video, it's important we don't lose our culture in these modern times. It's important we still embrace our values as Fijians no matter where we are.
Josaia, Vinaka vakalevu for your comment... it means a lot. This village was very seriously damaged by Cyclone Winston, and I just recently heard that Albert McLaren has passed away The video captured a very special moment in time.
Lako mada I viti Josh hope u kila to speak in kai viti lol jokes tu ga 🤣🤣
Josaia Namoumou you will always be a Fijian no matter in which part of the planet you reside in. No one can ever take that away from you. Vinaka na nanuma tu mai na noda Vanua. God Bless.

+Lyndy Simpson Lyndy, thank YOU for capturing the footage of the previous Ratu's funeral last March, and even more for allowing our use of it in this film. Without that footage we'd be missing a huge part of the story. Vinaka vaka levu!!!

im going to fiji after 28 years this christmas this brings back memorizes...
Vinaka Gary for letting the world see our culture..
new chief got the style with the uke and the guitar, he is a rocker. Beautiful people, culture and island. How not to love the aunties..so classic. We've forgotten how to live, laugh and hangout together... there is everyone doing the shores in groups, everyone in the water as well, kids by the road respecting the passing of the chief, everyone respecting the taboo as well... beautiful. We judge and don't even realize it is an advanced culture, advanced technologies as well. God Bless and protect them, LOVE.
I’m proud about my brotherhood Melanesia’s,I m love forever and I remember island 🌴 is my country.

One of the greatest videos I have ever watched. Thank you for this.
wow.. this is the most beautiful culture.
Awesome, my wantoks, watching from port moresby, your community continuity of chieftain system of government and the cultural protocols involved in chief burial ceremonies and ordinances of anointing a new chief. Chieftain governance systems unifies us as people. This is culture is our identity, it defines who we are and it complete us.
Thank you so much Gary for uploading
Isaaaa levu vinaka Garry for the lovely footage. Bring back memories.
That's awesome. I was in Fiji a week ago and was amazed to learned about Fijian cultures .

Thank you for sharing this video as I was born and brought up in the Village of Naselesele on the island of Taveuni. I have been on one these kind of celebrations. Isa how I miss Taveuni!!
I am so glad I found your channel! Thanks for sharing!
Very beautiful now I know why I can relate to the Islands!
Preserving, conserving and practicing one's way of life, culture and the religion is the very important aspects of continuing identity. Without it everything is gone including your territories.
Thank you Gary for this video. I am an I-Kiribati but I have lived in Fiji in 2009-2011 when I worked for World Wife Fund for Nature (WWF) - South Pacific office in Suva. During the 3 years I spent there, I came to learn and appreciate the people of Fiji. One time we had our staff retreat in one of the very remote coastal villages in Tailevu, and I can really relate to this video here. I am a very Proud Pacific Islander (PPI) because of our unique traditions, which is why I hold it dearly to my heart my sincere and deep respect to these villagers you presented in the video. I agree when the man said, "I think the Fijians is one of the best people on Earth."
Miss my Rakiraki alot, vinaka for this beautiful video.
This is what differentiates us. Our culture and customs. It identifies us as indeginoues people of this beloved country. Cola Vina from Melbourne. Love this short film displaying the beautiful tradition of this village. So awesome to see!
Also what is the name of the song that the village men are singing?
Totoka vakaoti. Vinaka sara vakalevu na veiwasei mai ena kena qoka.
Where in vanua levu. How far from labasa??
Catch the bus from Labasa or Saivou Junction headed for Savusavu. Alight at Nabalebale Village and hitch a ride to any of the villages inland.
If I remember correctly, Nukubalavu and Navatu villages are situated on Navatu Island. Not sure if there's a bridge or you might have to catch a boat ride.
Someone care to comment about the first song?..
❤️❤️❤️
So cool
Isa Rip uncle albert!

The reef is dying as you poison it by the poison roots, and that what yous use in that trap rite? No good.
its now illegal to use duva roots to poison or stun the fish in fiji.
Government ban fishing ground owners from stunning fish ....yet they allow chinese drag nets around Fiji Waters!! Lousy government
May God praise all for the LOVE you share amongst such honorable Whanaunga Fijians whom for the Grace of Our Lord cherish & serve Ariki with the heist of mercifull pledges throughout challenging Gamesmanship to keep Traditions spiritually Alive Tena Koutou my brothers in Our Pacifica Southern Seas tino Arohanui xxxxxxx
Don't worry about the duva roots...what about the poor bloke who apparently took the wrong turn and he'll miss out on the fish 😛
Sa sega na vucu ni vanua... sa ia ga na sere mai na Kindergarten!!
Ah Fiji....where women's rights are non-existant. Bula vinaka Fiji :)
