    When bartering the relative value of the coins will be what matters. Silver dimes , nickels, quarters etc. doesn’t matter the year as long as it’s silver. Minor variations would only matter in large melt operations. Today you’d accept a crumpled twenty as fast as a crisp one.

    • @salvatorelivreri
      @salvatorelivreri Місяць тому

      Exactly! @7:30 he says that his friend says that people will be weighing the dimes for their actual silver content. Really? On a coin that can currently be traded for a loaf of bread (~$2), does it matter if it has 1.97 or 2.03 worth of silver?!?! I would not be wanting to trade with someone that nitpicky!

    When the day comes where I'll have to use junk silver coins to barter with I'll first be using my most worn coins and reserving the less worn ones for last. My local coin store doesn't sell dimes, quarters and half dollars by face valve anyway. They sell them by weight. Spot times 0.9 is what I pay so worn coins don't bother me as a buyer, but like I said when I trade them off the most worn ones will be gone first.

    • @SuperDavidEF
      @SuperDavidEF 2 місяці тому +4

      If you think about it, it's a variation of "bad money pushes out good money" because everyone who is paying attention to the weight will be pushing off their light coins to the people who don't know or who maybe don't care about the weight difference. Eventually, everyone will figure it out and the light ones will be universally considered less valuable.

    One of my favorite Classic Rock lyrics: "and I've got, one more silver dollar! But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no! Not gonna let 'em catch, the Midnight Rider!"

    OK, First... I love you guys and wish you were in my town! Now, I noticed the large amount of "gunk" on that Merc. I spotted it fast as I have a few like that and don't know how to get that stuff off. That gunk has weight and the comparison, in my view, was a bit skewed. I wish you had taken a really thin/worn Merc without the gunk and did a comparison. I still contend that if people know about mercury dimes, they will know about Roosevelt dimes and 1964 being the "magic" year! Keep doing these videos as you guys are amazing and informative!

    I bartered 150 Peace Dollars for a 1961 Ford Diesel 841 series restored tractor. He was asking $7,000. and I put a value of $40. each on my Peace Dollars, which would be $6,000. It took him a couple weeks to think about it and since he had no other buyers, he traded with me. This was a few years ago and I still use the tractor on my 22 acres. I also traded one Peace Dollar at a gun show for 500 rounds of Aquila 22 ammo. Later I sold that ammo during the shortage for $50.

    This videos got me jonesin’ for a constitutional purchase. I was thinking a 10oz bar this month but I love filling tubes of halves and dimes. Y’all can keep the quarters.

    I concur that halves are the best constitutional silver to stack. I have a few quarters, but not one dime!

    I would take the dimes. I can get more transactions with the dimes. The dollar only offers one transaction unless you cut it into pieces.

    Dang it both Harry and Adrian made good points. I've been stacking the Mercury dimes for a while now and looks like I need to make a move to some larger coins. Great video as always SD. Stay safe and tell Harry and the gang we said hello from Colorado.

    I believe if/when the USD implodes it will only be weeks or months until most people will understand which coins are silver or not at a glance.I do believe their condition will be a factor, how ever so slight. I have always stacked by weigh/melt value over collector value.
    Also don't rule out that the 22LR cartridge could potentially become a $.50 or $1 coin. All ammo will be valuable but quality will be a huge factor. No one reloads 22LR it is all factory minted, easily stored and transported. Even at today's prices it is a bargain...
