  • While the sight of a passing train never tires, it's easy to forget how sounds make up the other, visceral part of the experience. It especially hits home when realizing how much time has flown between the industry's inception and how much has changed throughout its lifespan.

There is something just magical about a distant whistle echoing around; it's like a mechanical wolf that howls when there's no moon; thanks for sharing

I’ve always wanted sounds of trains. This is perfect for all things. This takes me back to my days as a toddler. I used to ride the trains of the Florida East Coast Railroad. Ah, this brings me memories

I love the sound of a dog barking constantly in the distance or right outside by back door

Whistles of steam locomotives are their own individual voices, and were inspired by the pipe organs in churches and cathedrals 👍 👌 💛, like in the beginning of this record is the single note like used on the first 4-4-0 American classes around the year 1850. Then the larger engines like 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler, or 2-8-0 Consolidation around 1890 were using the Multi-Chime whistles with 6 pipes of various lengths that give either high or low notes, like C&NW 1385 4-6-0 has a very distinctive whistle, and here in Wisconsin could easily be distinguished from other rr's like Milw.Rd., or SOO LINE, or the small logging lines with Shays!!-! Then from 1927 to 1950 and beyond to today in 2022, with the 4-8-4 Northern with other names like Daylight 4449, and Greenbriar 614, and J 611, and Milwaukee Road 261, have their own unique deep bass "Steamboat whistles" that vary in pitch and tone. Also the BIG BOY 4014 4-8-8-4 has its own unique steamboat style whistle that can be heard for a 5 mile radius echoing across the mountains and valleys in Sherman Hill in Wyoming, o-o0000+0000-oo+oo-ooooo. .... @@@@ .... !!-! Likewise in England and Europe they frequently use the small single note with very high pitch!! Thus it is quite Easy to tell the difference between high speed Mallard A4 Gresley Streamliner on the L.&N.E. RY., or the small narrow guage 2 foot wide 0-4-0 T in Wales. Also the Russian P-36 4-8-4. And the Chinese QJ 2-10-2. ALL STEAM LOCOMOTIVES 🚂 AROUND THE WORLD 🌎 😎 👌 😉 🙌 are as unique as the good people of their countries. Thus, GOD BLESS YOU 🙌 🙏 ❤ WITH WISDOM, PEACE, HAPPINESS 😊 & LOVE ❤ 😍 💖 ❣ 💕 💘 ❤!!!!! ALLELUIA!!!!! AMEN 🙏 🙏 🙏!!!!! 5.1O.22.A.D. U.S.A., GOLD SPIKE DAY 153RD ANNIVERSARY 1869 TO 2022 For the first Transcontinental Railroad!!-! Those whistles are a big part of the Magic of steam locomotives 🚂 , because the ordinary power of Steam is contained at high pressure to move passenger trains that weigh 1,000 tons with 12 Pullman cars at faster than 100 M.P.H.!!!!! BUT...Only before 1804A.D., people could only travel slowly around 5 m.p.h. with horses 🐎 or oxen pulling only 1 waggon. Then the Industrial Revolution occurs with STEAM POWER!!!!! And the steamers in the 1820's could pull 20 small waggons with 1 tonne, each. And the entire World 🌎 is CHANGED...FOREVER!!!!!.....(Part 3.) Sun.5.15.22.A.D.

Locomotive beckons to a day of optimism. When we as a nation were not in discord. Unfortunately our policy spelled the end of many native nations who lived in harmony with the earth. But yes that sound pulls deep at your soul
