What are your tips to dress younger? If you enjoyed this you will love: 10 Style Tricks That Make You Look Younger ua-cam.com/video/i8hcpmLk8EA/v-deo.html
Good day Maam 😊❤ love you vlog. Im banker just turned 52 and Asian 5'1 petite and fair complexion. What hair style should I have to do for my age and I always color my hair in black because my hair easily turned gray in brown. Is green floral applicable for my age thank you Maam❤
Fit, fit, fit! I cannot emphasise this enough to my friends. Wear the right length for your height and size up, it's easier to get a bigger size tailored than to be seeing all your lumps and bumps squeezed in the wrong places. No baggy dresses either girls, they look awful on anyone unless you're tall and reed thin. No baggy all over tops and trousers too.
I choose vee neck tops over crew neck if possible, and add a third layer if my top is black to avoid shadows from the dark color. Gold hoops or pearls to catch the eye.
But I like leggings and North Face jacket. I dont think its so bad.
I am 82, slim with white hair. My hair style attracts compliments even by a gentleman recently, which is quite uncommon. I wear what suits me. Retired, I wear trousers. I prefer wearing short jackets, they look stylish on me. In winter I wear various coats, one in beige with a large green scarf draped around my shoulders. For this I received a compliment from a lady in the street. I also wear an unusual coat in shape and colour. Military style suits me very well. To be truthful with my body shape and looking heathy, I look far younger than I am.
At 81 on my last birthday, I have decided I do not have time to get or be old. While I am sitll blessed with enjoying good health, I am baking French bread almost every week (that I share with friends), stay active in my church, am busily involved in Family History (which keeps my cognitive skills active). Iin summer I grow a small garden, mow my lawn, and tend the flower gardens. In addition to these things I keep my own house, do my own shopping etc. Thank you for your tips on how to dress, act and feel attractive, it is more than just not looking old and frumpy, it is confidence in who we are and who we have become.
❤ I am 68 and I agree! I also have young friends who keep me up to date on current trends, music, TV shows, movies, etc , etc.
Wonderful Metrower - I love your thinking 😘
I love those battery operated lawn mowers! So light and QUIET!! I pick mine up to bring it under the basement stairs like it's nothing!
Wonderful to hear!
Im 80 and have just bought an orange jumpsuit which I will wear to Sainsbury's if I feel like it, who cares!!
I'm nearly 65 and I was watching this...while wearing a new paisley dress. To me, it is not the pattern that is aging: it is the quality, colours, size and placement of the pattern, style, cut and length that determine how it looks. I bought it from an English shop that sells classic designs and fabric patterns primarily for the 30-40 year old age group. How a woman accessorises the dress is also important as to whether something is aging (jewellery, shoes, handbag). Finally, make-up and hairstyling can make something aging or not. I am very wary of set "rules" about what is aging or not (apart from the non-no of polyester elastic waist trousers and the unforgivable leggings and loose shirts lol). This is just my opinion and my own experience so to each his/her own! Happy New Year to all 😁
I was just going to point that out. Also, even just what you pair an item with can make a huge difference. I like the paisley print but always had a problem finding anything in the print - somehow I didn't see it much where I live in the past 35 years or so that I've been buying my own clothing. Earlier than that, the pattern was used mostly on scarves that the older generation wore (people born about a hundred years ago). Maybe that's why it's associated (at least by ppl whose grandparents were born a century ago) with "old age". Just recently though I've seen a whole collection of clothing for "young women" (20-30 yo) in a popular chain. The quality is lacking... But I had purchased a silk scarf with a paisley print months earlier and I finally started wearing it. I mostly dress "smart casual", wear my hair long, and I wore the scarf in a sort of a nonchallant manner. People still treated me as if they thought I was much younger than I am (I'm used to it but don't necessarily like it). The scarf didn't make me look old or even older. I actually now want to dress "older" because I'm too annoyed by men younger than me by 15-20 years treating me as if I'm their classmate... Well, the scarf didn't give me that "maturing effect". The paisley dress in the video was just a bad design, I've seen some fantastic haute couture paisley designs (out of my price range, unfortunately) - they looked fresh and modern.
@@michalinaokrent6672 Very well said. Also there are things that are classic/always look good that could be seen (incorrectly) as "aging" - a paisley scarf, tweed clothing, a camel coat, cardigans, pearl necklace, etc. To me, these look good at any age (depending on styling them too).
I should have added that an important way to avoid looking old is good, consistent skin care. I am nearly 65 but I have no facial wrinkles (my eyes are a little bit hooded though) which has knocked many years off my actual age! I have never had Botox nor any cosmetic or surgical procedure. I no longer wear foundation. Heavy foundation, powder and concealers can be very aging.
@@michalinaokrent6672 I actually liked the paisley design dress but I also think it probably suits the younger demographic. I always love Sportsgirl stuff but have given up trying it on as I think it makes me look like "mutton dressed up as lamb." (I live in Australia.)
Agree. Here in the US, often a paisley dress reads upper crust, old money, the horsey set, preppy, etc., but not the age of the wearer. And it's a popular, classic print for beautiful silk or wool scarves often worn by both men and women with a gorgeous cashmere or tweed coat. I'd bet this is also true in Britain.
I'm 65, developed my style from my Italian mamma so I had an advantage! I look a good chunk younger but I do wonder why everyone is obsessed with looking younger. Not saying it's wrong but it is an obsession I think. And it's more about finding YOUR styles and looking healthy!! My aunt, on preparing for her 100th birthday lunch was given an option of 2 dresses that were bought for her, she looked at both, pointed to one and said ' that's so dull, it's a party, not a funeral!! And that's the attitude I've inherited!!
Yes! Aging is a privilege. Not everyone gets to do it. So do it well! ❤️
Brava per lei. Hai detto bene.
Aww that’s awesome! Totally agree. I am 55, right now wearing a pair of p448 high tops (skate shoes) that I absolutely love. They’re comfortable as heck, and they’re super fun. Not saying I’d wear them to work, but I wear them all the time otherwise!
The part where you said you wonder why everyone is obsessed with looking younger, made me think…
I think I would have to say it’s probably because you have to start coming to terms with the fact that you’re heading in the direction of no longer being sexually attractive, which is a big deal if you’ve used to turning heads…
@@MsRosieA good point, but why is the obsession on being sexually attractive I wonder? Not as if they're still needing to reproduce, which is what sexual attraction is about, in basic terms!! But I'm happy to be turning heads, but I wouldn't want anyone thinking of me in that way because there are some weird people out there!
Someone in the comments mentioned don't let any gray hair show to not look older. I disagree and think Marie-Anne would totally rock gray if she has gray. I stopped coloring my hair at 55 and now after going through salt and pepper am about to be platinum. It is so pretty! The solid black looks aging.
I agree. I have blonde hair that half of it has turned silver. I left it alone and people ask me where I got it colored 😂. I’m 51.
I'm 61 and have had Salt&Pepper hair for 10 years. I've had more compliments on my hair than ever in my life. And many ask me where I "get it done." I say, "God did it."
Fried hair from dye and grow out never looks good.
It depends on your gray. I went totally gray and looked awful. The tone of the gray was totally unflattering to my skin tone. Extremely aging. Back to coloring in a flash.
Maybe we should call “grey” hair our natural colour..because that’s what it is..I’m happy to return to my natural colour even if it means transitioning for awhile to grow out fried or brassy colour..it’s just a temporary phase I’m old enough to endure and handle with grace
Your illustrations of “things going south” and “underwire” are so funny! Thanks for keeping your instruction light-hearted and comical.😂
“A lifted bust is a happy bust!” 😂😂😂
Yes! I have a small bust but have become very droopy. Underwires worked when I was younger and was more perky, but as time went by they just became extremely uncomfortable. Ugh! Finding just the right soft and supportive bras was a real pain! I did finally find some that felt good all day and lifted me. So I bought six of them in various colors. Problem solved - for now. LOL
I think humour gets the message across so much better Clavergoose 😃
a great buying tip Garmtpug 😃
My favorite is a flock of sheep! 😂😂😂
She has such a great sense of humor, always makes me smile.
Merci Vicki x
Best ever video on aging! She does not spend the first 15 minutes of the video telling some boring irrelevant back story ala USA style videos. She just gets on with it. And her tips are fab. Finally - how refreshing. Thank you for not wasting my time Marie-Anne.
You are very welcome Penelope 😘 if you enjoyed this video you will love my new video out tonight 😃
My tip is to have a smile on your face. Instant youth.
Yes!
And lipstick, even if you don't have time to put on more makeup!
Unless your teeth are stained brown or gray from smoking, red wine or tea-drinking. You need to take care of your teeth!
And, beautiful lipstick. I wear it at home even If I don’t go out.
@@elizabethelliott3175. If I have to run to the store for a quick item, I do my brows and put on lipstick. No other eye makeup. I wear glasses and it’s the perfect run out the door look.
I say, “wear what makes you happy!”
I call leggings, "summer tights." I wear them like tights in the winter.
Me too. Now I have some great tips to help find out what will do that for me.
Excellent thoughts shared in this video. Two aging looks for women are thick black under eye liner and a very dark tan year round from a tanning salon that makes skin look like leather.
Yes! There is a lady with a 60s flip and teased bufount shoulder length hair cut and thick eyeliner with miniskirts pyramid punk belts who looks like she stepped out of a emo fever dream but she's 60. The dark eyeliner makes her eyes look saggy. It's pretty pretty bad.
Oh yes...that black eyeliner really draws attention to ones natural laugh lines and crows feet. The thing is, you can do the same thing with softer colors, and it doesn't do the same thing
Better yet, not to even wear eye liner! I only wore eye-liner in my 20's.
They make lighter color eyeliners now. if you get one that looks fairly nude or off white on you and put it in your waterline or just under the eye your eyes look larger and brighter. Use a dark eyeliner above you eye but in a very thin line to make them look larger and more defined. No cat eye wing though.
For Sure! I see people all the time with dark tans and it says, " I am old"
Marie-Anne, this video was laugh out loud. My favorite was exposing my "jiggly bits" while wearing leggings! Your advice never fails and it comes with a good dose of humor :)
🤗
Nothing worse than women of every age looking like chopped up jello in a sausage casing - ie leggings and other tight wear.
I agree with her about not wanting to have the "jiggly bits" on display! Valuable advice for *any* age!
Great tips. As a dog-owner living in a rain forest environment, though, nothing will ever convince me to give up my anorak - it’s an essential piece of outdoor gear. That said, it’s reserved for dog walks and casual trips to do chores; I always wear a trench coat on “proper” outings.
I wear appropriate gear for jobs around the grounds here too Cannabliss - you should see me when I am chainsawing 😃
She wasn't criticizing you. Obviously if the anorak is being used as utility clothing that's fine. Ditto riding pants or shooting shirts. I think she was making a point with the picture of the woman in the wide, shapeless pullover "thing". Who wears a coat in a rain forest? You must look chick indeed!
@@MarieAnneLecoeurI would love ❤ to see you chainsawing. 😂
I Agree, Always dog walking and Bass Fishing with Hubby and my Anorak is the best for those outdoorsy activities. I actually have the style and color that Marie Anne showed. People think I am dressed up when I’m fishing.😂
But The New Look had the Coco Chanel character rocking some magnificent trenchcoats in every episode! I was just salivating those coats. It’s terrible to live in a climate that never gets cold because you can never wear a decent coat, much less a trenchcoat when it only rains every ten years. I would just get paint on an expensive coat and be afraid to wear it.
I'm 38. I love floral prints and paisley. 😂. I make all my own clothes exactly how I want them. Guess I'm an old lady. I also love gardening and cross stitch 😅
You have a wonderful skill NeuroGeek
😂😂 you go, girl !
I was feeling a bit silly about sewing a pair of cigarette capri pants with a tropical bird pattern, until I read your comment. I suspect there are some things the individual must decide for themselves. Thank you.
I loved paisley in the 80s and I love it now!
I make a lot of my own clothes too (one of my favourites is a fabulous brown 70's print dress!) and have a fair bit of floral in my stash. I feel more stylish in a well fitting floral dress in a colour that suits me versus a forgettable neutral outfit.
I always loved Paisley! Ad wore it happily in my 20's & 30's! I still love it! I'm 63 now
I dress like a 16 year old and I’m 75.
I@@war-painterNobody says to you not to wear teenage style? That's what I hear: don't try to be a kid. Perhaps you rock the styles.
Me too.
My 20 something daughter hates paisley with a passion. I will still enjoy a paisley scarf or pajamas or something like that.
I like the boho paisley dress so much better than the other two dresses!
Me too. 🤭😆😂
Me too - 100%
I walk on hills for a couple of miles per day with my dog, and have found the anorak to be by far the most practical choice for moderately cool weather, because I can store what I need (water, dish, dog treats, leash, an extra jacket, gloves) in the large pockets and thus not need to carry a pack. I do not think that if a garment is super-practical that aging has anything to do with it. I also think that while geometric designs like stripes suit some people (especially those who are taller and angular), other people have body styles/essences that are much more suited to something softer and that florals can be appropriate for them and look good on them. And that age has nothing to do with it.
Agree. Why do people wear anoraks as we age? Because we're more interested in practicality than style?
😊Yes, I live in the Verdugo Mtns. Love hiking up & down my steep hilly streets. Still trying to improve gait & recover full strength in my left leg 〰️after having broken it (& sprained ankle) followed by two surgeries. Sometimes I'll borrow my neighbor's puppy🐶 for company.
👟Trainers or hiking🥾 boots & a lightweight anorak are required. As you said, the latter is perfect to hold phone, keys, chapstick, mittens, sunnies, scarf, etc. Should you get warm, you can easily tie it around your waist too.
😉Of course, I stay away from tri-color pastel versions that Marie-Ann featured😵💫. That would definitely push me into frumpy grandma territory👵. I typically stick w/brighter blues or black to coordinate w/my other sporty gear. I do have a couple red anoraks for when feeling fierce❤.
💚Bridget from Cali☘️
(using my pal's YT acct)
I wore an Anorak in a solid dark green when I was in Jr High. Because I went ice skating after school, it kept me perfectly warm and I loved that pouch pocket in the front and the hood came in handy. I wore it with black stretch pants and thought it looked great.
Practicality is important Lisa but when it creeps into everyday wear ... beware!
Entirely my thoughts, I also have anorak and with this heavy rain during the last weeks I even wear a rain cape when walking my dog. But I guess Marianne means when you're going out shopping in town or your village, then of course I wear appropriate rain clothes as a trenchcoat or I take my umbrella, all this is not comfortable of course when I walk the dog or go for a hike.
"That doesn't make me feel better." Marie-Anne, I love your sense of humor and honesty (but you're kind about it) in your videos. ❤
I hope the humour helps get the message across CFW x
This woman is spot on. Wear what you like, of course. But understand she's correct about these fashion mistakes!!
Merci Ed
@@MarieAnneLecoeurI can't stand anoraks!
I agree with all these examples. I would add: tunic tops! I tried one once -ONCE-and I will never wear one again. They don’t hide our hips and tummies, they draw attention to them. For me, tunic tops are the ultimate “old lady” look. 😮
A tunic top worn over stretch capri pants, mandatory summer holiday wear everywhere you go...
Might depend on the body type, and the make of them. They are life savers to me. 😉 I also prefer to have a top that goes well below the crotch when I wear _pants;_ but that's personal preference.
@@thekingsdaughter4233 You are right, of course. Body type, the cut of the garment, when/where we live i.e. our lifestyles, and how a top (any top, really) is styled, make all the difference. I just don’t like them on me, but that’s just me. Bottom line (no pun intended 😉): we should wear what works for us, and with good posture and a genuine smile we can greet our days with confidence.
I find tunics are not for everyone, but do work well for some -- usually slender-hipped leggy ladies - which I am not. On me, they make my stumpy legs look shorter. And depending on the stye, they can remind me of Bea Authur in Maude (that 1972 U.S. TV show).
@@renephillips6739 Bea Arthur who famously wore them because, as she said, "As long as I have this big a-s to cover"
My Mother looked amazing at 96 yrs. even with Dementia because she always kept her excellent posture(and took care of herself). Marie-Anne along with your great attitude, we see you always carry yourself and move with dignity and youthful energy.
You dear mother sounds like she was a very Chic lady @c 🙏
Idea for another video?
When a woman has health issues that are life long, they can't walk or even stand with youthful energy. That's for us fortunate ladies.
My mother (90), had health issues and had to use a wheelchair, but always dressed well, looked chic and wore light make up.
Bravo Marie-Anne. Thanks for calling out all the awful marketing for “old ladies”! Old ladies today are not the same as old ladies 30 years ago. We are fit, know how to look after ourselves and, speaking for myself, still enjoying life. Thank you!
Some people defend th anorak, I liked what you said and how you showed a stylish choice rather than a merely functional choice.
Love your tips… all spot on!
You are welcome Vivien - I call it as I see it 😃
I do not want to look younger I want to look the best I can be at 73 this is how I look at fashion Happy Blessed New Year Marianne 🙏❤️
Looking your best is the aim Mary 😃
As a woman of 58, I wear whatever the hell I want. If I like it, I wear it. No outfit is going to make me look old or young. I look 58 regardless. All that matters is that I'm happy with myself. Relax, smile, and enjoy.
I came here to write the same. Thank you!
Exactly! 59 and feeling the same.
Good for you but you're giving hateful here.
Then why did you select to watch this? Seems only women interested in looking their best at any age would click on this video.
Don’t want her advice?
Don’t click it. Easy as can be!
@@LDHBees Curiosity. It kept coming up in my suggestions so I thought why not? Let's see what this video is about. I find interesting content this way. But, I didn't like this video at all and my comment reflects my thoughts.
I am enjoying wearing colors I wasn't able to wear years ago! A big difference has been that I know wear silver-toned jewelry rather than yellow gold. Goes great with my white hair which I love.
One Christmas my boyfriend bought me a set of 3 long brown boxy jumpers with little felt ‘highlights’. I knew then that our relationship was over. 😻
Sounds awful haha
Lol

Holly Golightly : You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you. I must say, the mind reels.

This was the wittiest video ever! I laughed from the beige sheep all the way to the end. My tips for dressing younger: Don't hang on to the style you embraced in your 20s (if you're now 50 or 60+). People tend to hang on to the era in which they were their happiest, and I get that, but ... don't). That frosted pink lipstick (which I loved) and those poofy bangs moved on, and so should we. Second tip - in addition to our skin tone changing over time, our silhouette changes as well - even for the fittest among us. Dress for your current shape. Wear updated glasses - both prescription and sunshades.
I'm coming up upon our 40th high school class reunion. It's interesting to see how many of my classmates still wear hairstyles/ makeup styles/ clothing styles that are similar to what we wore in the early 80's. It doesn't make anyone look younger, but does make them look as if they are stuck in a time warp.
Super advice Rene - style is a journey not a destination 😃
@@JillWhitcomb1966 Went to my 55th h.s. reunion in Sept. & was appalled by the " uniform " look of the women my age - overweight in black pants , black flats , " float-y floral tunic tops , little or no makeup , not even a swipe of lip balm for color ! , & droopy dull gray hair parted in the middle . My reaction was : " Who are all these old people & what are they doing at my reunion ?? " 🤣

I’m 62 and wear blue jeans and t-shirts and sneakers. Always have, always will. I don’t care if I look older. What matters is what makes ME happy. Took your advice with a grain of salt.
I’m 69, wear jeans everyday, sneakers, t shirts or sweat shirts. I really don’t feel comfortable in anything else. If I go out where I’m expected to look a bit more formal, I struggle.
I am almost 70 & live in jeans, tees . Add a nice blazer in fall & winter & a great pair of boots
Curious why you chose to watch a video about how not to look old if you don't care and had no intention of changing.
@@PeriMedic1 Just because someone gives advice doesn't always mean you agree. Plus she wears jeans in a fashionable way as I do. I don't dress "old" & I agree with some of her choices. I do not have a need for many trousers. I have a different lifestyle.
@@PeriMedic1 I watched because I wanted to see what she presented. Plain and simple.
I’m in my 70’s… I don’t particularly care what others think I should wear! I wear what pleases me.
^THIS! I wear what pleases me!
Why watch the video then???
@@ljc772 possibly for the same reason I did... to put comments in to enlighten others and teach them not to listen to bullshit "you can't do this" videos like this one. Education is a wonderful thing!
I see Anna Wintour wearing floral dresses frequently, and I would hesitate to characterize her as out-of-style, frumpy, or looking old for her actual age (74). These kinds of broad characterizations like "stripes are better than florals" or "don't wear a design with more than two colors" are a lot less helpful than suggestions that what really matters is dressing in quality garments that are suited to your own personal characteristics. And that many different types of styles can be attractive at any age if worn in the right way, by the right person, I think.
Clothes should suit your personality. Attitude is everything! 😎
I agree. i have just made a summer dress with the white and blue stripe that Marie-Anne recommends and I look like a nurse from 1940 in it. Stripes are not for everyone and a floral dress would have been a much better choice for me.
She stated, "Brown floral"
I just did a search for "Anna Wintour Brown Dress" and came up with several examples of her wearing lovely brown dresses with floral designs.
To all things there are exceptions Lisa and it is knowing when and how and if you can break them that is important
Yeesh! Some of the comments here, “I’ll wear what I want!” So wear what you want! Why are you here! There’s a big difference between wearing what is comfortable without a care in the world (hideous Birkenstock, sweat pants, yoga pants etc) and wearing 8:21 clothes that make you look your best. This is the point here. If you want to wear what you want, go ahead and be happy. I think some feel triggered cause they’re wearing the paisley thinking they look great. I love your videos Marie Anne
Merci for your support Maria 🤗
One of your best tips for me has been to carry a leather bag with structure! I have thrown out my slouchy hobo style bags, and feel better for it. I am also over 60 and feel young mentally, so I want to look my best, as well. Thank you Marie-Anne
You are very welcome ma chère x
I love structured bags too! I’ve donated my few slouchy bags after finally giving myself permission to let them go (most were gifts) .
I love structured bags too! I’ve donated my few slouchy bags after finally giving myself permission to let them go (most were gifts) .
Additional to its educational purpose, I love the take on this video!! You have such a great humour Marie-Anne! 😂 May the new year be a better one for you, and all of us. 😊
I am glad you enjoyed it Georgeta 😘 and a Happy New Year to you too x
I never understood all those rules about age and fashion. I'll wear the things that I like and that make me "feel me". Don't listen to anyone who wants "explain" to you what is right and what is wrong in your age! I'm 53 and I wear Dr. Martens with shortened pants even I never had perfect ancles. So what? SO WHAT?
Yes, yes, and more yes!!
Of course you can do that. You have the right to do anything you want. And that attitude reflects in the way you look.
If we are stubborn and stuck in the mud we will look like the mud that we are stuck in.
Excellent tips Marie-Anne. A good bra is a must. I haven’t worn an underwire in many years. Luckily there are many made these days without. I also think less makeup is sometimes better. Unless your going to be on camera, a thick coat of foundation isn’t necessary. Floral pants can be tricky even if you’re young. Merci! 💕
Completely agree that less makeup is better (and I LOVE makeup). And just like cropped wide leg pants are not right for everyone (or anyone, really), sparkly highlighter isn't either. I have tried repeatedly to get that "glow" but end up with frosted wrinkles that were less visible BEFORE the highlighter.
I use very little makeup even on camera - I can't get used to putting on more than the bare minimum 💋
Try Nuxe Prodigieux Or Rene it is what I use - it has tiny gold flecks 😘
Nuxe under foundation is Fab, and very nourishing.❤
I can't get away without the underwire in public. I've tried on many many brands until I'm exhausted. 40DD and it starts to slip out one way or another.LOL!!!
Just wear what makes you happy ,feel comfortable with and looks good or pull off,you do you boo😊
OMG! Love how you assimilated the under wired bra with the fourth rail bridge in Scotland! You made my day and made me smile 😊
😃
Great ideas. So many say they wear what they want but are watching this video. I believe we should always take pride in how we look. I’m 66 and I love to dress nicely. It makes me feel good. I don’t mind looking my age just not frumpy. I wear what I like even if others don’t like it. I take care in how I look when I leave home. That’s how my mom taught me and it has stuck with me throughout my life.
Your dear mother taught you well Susie 🙏
I've been wearing paisley my whole life because I like it. I believe you should always wear what makes you feel comfortable. I also believe you should never wear leggings if you are overweight unless you are home.
However the older I've gotten the less I care what anyone thinks. As long as my bra isn't showing, my fat is covered decently then I wear what makes me happy.
You’ve called out so many of my favorites, like paisley and florals. I’m just gonna wear what I like. And if it’s sold at Urban Outfitters, I am not going to worry about it aging me. I’ll just enjoy what I like. Even if low-rise jeans return in a big way, I’ll never give up my high-rise flares! They’re the most flattering on my (current, perhaps permanent body shape)!
Bonjour Sophie - please watch this ua-cam.com/video/36B3w_l2r-E/v-deo.html
I’m a 60 years old woman. Not only I enjoy watching your vlog I also learned a lot of practical and useful tips about fashion. Thank you! 👍😊
You are so welcome Edna x
I've gone on a mini dress spree the past few months, with very opaque and cable tights mind. I love the abstract print one and the brown houndstooth (with the hip pockets/large gold buttons). I was so young when that look was in that it doesn't seem 'antique' to me :)
I've also gotten to the point where I don't need to impress anyone, just to wear clothes which make me happy, and which make others smile :)
I have also been wearing mini skirts and dresses at soon to be age 62. My husband says I have great looking legs and he likes me to show them off. Sometimes I feel a little self conscious about wearing them at my age, but I try to be brave and wear them anyhow.
Horizontal stripes make me look like a linebacker since I have broad shoulders and no waist. I am an old New Waver who loves the boho look. I will stick to - yes! florals and paisley, to camouflage my lumps and bumps. However, I promise to only wear my colors, only one pattern per outfit and never wear oversized clothes!
Excellent SL 👏 yes there is far more to it stripes can certainly accentuate shoulders - there is obviously a limit to the advice one can give in a short video 😘
Great fashion tips ! I am a trained cosmetic pro who prides herself on using youthful and neutral makeup...No thick heavy foundation..always start with a clean moisturized face..then line blur or light fillers..Use concealer to cover darkness and blemishes as neede..no blue eyeshadow..go for neutrals followed by mascara..lips should add some color w/o being overdone..AND PLEASE NO LIPLINER IN DARKER COLORS !!
Sounds like our 'no makeup' makeup Carol 😃 merci for sharing your professional views x
For me, graying, thinning brows are *the* most aging part of the facial changes as we get older. I've considered microblading, but there are so many fantastic brow products now, I'll just experiment till I find the best one for me.
@@tigress63 those brow "mascaras" are great for me. So easy, and a range of colors.
Totally agree! As a woman over 60, your advice has made a huge difference to my style. Thank you! Sending best wishes from Down Under 🥰🌺🌼🌸🌻💐🇦🇺😎
You are very welcome 🤗
I like combining neutral colors, like black, beige, gray and white, with a bright piece, like pink, green , yellow. Also exercisinggives you some type of glow, makes you look younger
💯👍
Oh nooooo....I am almost 60 and I was going along so well until you mentioned floral pants!! I just LOVE them and have several pair. I love to wear them on my casual days around the house with a tee and flats (I do wear good quality leather flats). I so enjoy your fashion tips, tricks and advice. I do believe as we age, good supportive, COMFORTABLE undergarments are a must! Blessings for the New Year!
And to you Norma 🤗 I will give you a French Chic dispensation for the house 😉
I love floral pants and pants with details too!
The 'trousers' that she showed look like an 'old' person's pants!🤷🏼♀️
And, really, what's wrong with floral/patterned leggings/pants??
Good, stylish, well fitted jeans.. always!!
Tunic tops, cropped pants, patterned and baggy clothes will do it everytime! I work very hard to keep strong & trim (& have a waist!). I only buy clothes online as all the "mature" women shops here have only what you listed! Thanksfor your wonderfulsense of humor, Marie
Question: why would you shop at old lady stores when you keep fit? You could shop at any regular store.
Excellent Joan 👏
@@edennis8578 I haven't shopped retail since Jones NY closed their wonderful factory outlet stores. Most shops here are fast fashion or for "mature" women. Online from Europe mostly works best for me--and quality not quantity.
Well, I’ve broken all these rules-that’s right, I’m a rebel-and I am old and whatever ages me is fine with me-and being invisible doesn’t bother me. I’m at the age where I’ve decided that I’m going to wear whatever I want-I don’t want to look young, I want to enjoy having lived to being old. No offense towards you, I enjoyed your video I found it quite amusing and fun.❤
Wonderful compilation of mistakes to avoid looking older. You're absolutely right and I agree, Marie-Anne. You're always looking youthful and love your humour. Merci for your inspiring work and wisdom. Happy New Year, ma chère! 🎆🥂🍾
Merci AW and for your continued support throughout the year 🤗
Excellent advice, Marie-Anne. I would also add posture. We get tired as we age and we do not pay attention to our posture. How you carry yourself walking, sitting, standing can age one. Happy New Year, Marie-Anne.
Especially when we are sitting! Slouching is not cute or chic 😊
Yes, I try to exercise and keep flexible at least once a week.
Yes indeed Cathy 👏 posture is very important 👏
I couldn't agree more about posture. I'm over 60 and I can't tell you how many compliments I get on my posture and have been mistaken for a younger age because of it
I'd like to recommend starting and practicing yoga. It has helped my posture and flexibility greatly. I'm 72 and have friends the same age or younger who cannot get up off of couches, bend down to pick up something off the floor or even sit on it. I'm not bragging or trying to make others feel bad, but it's wonderful to maintain flexibility and it makes me feel so much younger. It has increased my strength as well.
For Brits I would add - anything from M&S!!! It’s like a magnet (due to a very impressive PR department) for women over 50, who then bemoan the fact that they feel invisible - well, of course you do when every third woman’s wearing the same clothes as you (and your matching husband). I never set foot in the place and am complimented virtually every week by people who think I’m in my early to mid 40’s when I’m actually 68! Listen to this lovely woman - she’s a class act and not just in the wardrobe dept.
Merci Susanne 🤗
Loved this video Marie-Anne…I’m 68 and 5ft 1 and still take pride in my appearance. I agree with your last statement about ageing is a mind set, stay interested and try new experiences and you’ll stay young at heart 💕
Brava Anne 👏 I love your attitude x
Just because you aren't wearing the latest fashion doesn't mean you're not taking pride in your appearance. Today's social media is too pushy with gotta have, gotta have . . . . what not to wear if you don't want to look frumpy or old. People today are just trying to get by and spending money on things just to stay current with fashion is a waste of time and money in my opinion. If someone doesn't like you because of the clothes you wear or because they aren't the latest style, then that's THEIR problem, not yours.
I completely agree with you, Anne Brown 866. I am 66 and will start a new career in a few days: flight attendant for SkyWest Airlines in Utah! Goodbye teaching. Hello travel! It is never too late to live your dreams.
Happy new year, MarieAnne. This past year I turned 72, and I've had a desire to revitalize my style. I started this summer. I think I made some good choices. I enjoyed this video even though I see some surprises in my closet, like paisley sweaters. I can't help liking paisley. For those of us who like walking in the woods or on trails no matter what the weather IMHO I might like to wear an anorak as appropriate. In the city I like my London Fog trench coat or wool coat. Anyway, your suggestions are great. I lost my suitcase in Munich Airport filled with winter clothes for a trip to the alpine Christmas markets and now I'm rethinking and replacing.
So sorry you lost your luggage 🙁 I hope your style journey brings you joy in 2024 🤗
I just discovered your channel. I LOVE it! Not only am I learning fashion and just how to dress better, but also a bit of French here and there. I have always been obsessed with everything French. I would love to hear some ideas on how to look chic (over 50) while leading a mostly casual lifestyle. I find myself with a closet full of clothes I never wear, not because they don't fit or I don't love them, but I just have no place to wear them!!
Bonjour Kim and welcome 🤗 I have a number of videos on casual chic both long form and shorts 😃 let me know if you find what you need 😘
Why not give of your excess to others. Your closet will be happy.
Great coaching for stepping into the new year. Merci, Marie Anne. My resolution is to avoid mid rise anything. At 67, I discovered the comfort and appeal of the waistband which also prevents the muffin top from coming out to play. Looking forward to more in 2024! 🎉 🎊
I have found that a high rise waist can also draw attention to the belly area a bit too much, I prefer mid-rise. Also with high rise if you wear a jumper over the trousers it can hide the waistband/pockets/belt and again highlight a plain belly area which may be protruding so not great to show off. I prefer the mid-way and balance in most things.
@@luluandmeow I enjoy the band right around the waist after many years of mid rise. I’ve lost 20 pounds the past year and it works, looks good.
😃👍 and a Happy New Year to you too Moluccan x
Marie-Anne! This is the best, most saucy, sassy and silly (but also spot on) video I have ever seen you do. You’ve got a hidden stand-up comedian buried within. Well done! I’m looking forward to spending the month of May in your country on the Camino Podiensis. Thanks and Happy New Year! .
I am glad you enjoy the humour 😃 and have a wonderful trip x
Love your fashion tips! I’m wearing more dresses and having fun with varying the lengths. I find the women in the area where we moved are too casual and I’m determined not to pick up their style. I came from a big city, am well traveled and want to be a “glammy” to my granddaughters. Fashion is a fun and uplifting journey! Thank you!
Stand out in your Style Kathy and pass it on to your granddaughters 🤗
Bonjour! As usual, you are direct, humorous, and knowledgeable about what looks good. I agree with all. I am over 70, and I have never worn leggings or, God forbid, floral pants! I love your advice and use it as much as possible. Happy New Year!
You are very welcome Gloria xx
I am not really concerned about looking "young" or looking "old"; I just want to look nice, and as a Christian woman I want to be modest. Modesty means 1) not showing too much and 2) not spending too much. At 69 I've found that simple and classic style is the most versatile and least expensive in the long run, as well as being the easiest. I've also found that the right colors make me look my best and feel the happiest. I have cool coloring (silver hair, blue eyes, cool-pinky skin) so I wear mostly blues and lavenders with the occasional cool pink or soft green, and my neutrals are gray and navy.
I am 70 and your color palette is mine.
Have you ever heard a man worrying about being 'modest'?
@@lilithowlMen who walk around in mesh t-shirts or jeans with the butt cut out tell the world something about their sexuality, and it's not heterosexual. Men may not talk about their own modesty, but most heterosexual men practice it. Don't be sexist.
@@lilithowl I can't recall offhand that I've ever heard anyone WORRY about it, man or woman. It does seem that men are not as concerned about it as women, though. I did hear a really good sermon some years ago, preached by a young man, that men need to be modest as well as women, and that all Christians need to be modest not only in how we dress but in spiritual attitudes, like not bragging about our accomplishments, possessions, background, or even our own spirituality, and trying to be lowly in heart like Jesus was.
@@lilithowlMen sometimes take off their shirts while working out at the gym mainly to show off, and that's immodest, not to mention unhygienic because being topless spreads sweat on the equipment. Modesty is really about not showing off whatever others are not supposed to see/know, so that includes certain parts of the body, your achievements, your salary, etc. That's why it's not immodest to be naked during a medical exam or with your spouse or when you're alone in your room; likewise it's not immodest to talk about your achievements during a job interview.
I'm 45, and my teenage daughter I and I just watched this video. You're so much fun! You give solid style advice no matter how old the viewer. We will definitely watch more of your videos.
Merci for joining WW a big French Chic Hug to you both 🤗
Happy New Year to you and your family, Marie Anne. And many thanks for your very informative and entertaining videos. May we see many more of them in the coming year. Have a wonderful time tonight and please tell us later what you were wearing. 😘
I will see if I can do a short for you all Mieczyslawa and a Happy New Year to you too x
As always I completely agree with you! As a Danish decent American born I never understood some of the thought process behind modern fashion! My dad and mom always dressed so elegant. My ballet teacher was even more elegant! Tak (merci)
Elegance shines through Nia Marie - your parents taught you well ❤️
This particular video is so amusing I had to revisit it tonight. Alas, when I first saw it, I had a pang to think of parting with my cheery yellow shoes with the pansies all over them, a flower I'll now relegate to the garden or maybe a scarf. I always had some quiet doubts about my flowery quilted handbag and my boho skirt, and now I realize my mirror was whispering "frumpy" whenever it had to look at them. So I am bringing color into my wardrobe in other ways, such as with a couple of silk scarves and tops with stripes, which always have a "brisk" look to them. These, teamed with solid pants and more "with it" shoes and handbags are serving me much better than florals.
Your Style Eye knew all along Patricia 😃 👏 you just needed that little help to see it 🙏
I love my leggings and tunics. Not only are they comfortable but they fit my lifestyle.
I wear mostly ballet flats and the best ones I have are from Ballerette. All leather and they have different heels hights. I can't wear regular bras because of the pain in my back, the closure put pressure on one of the vertebrae I broke. I wear bras without closure from Lilysilk. They are so comfortable!
Merci for the recommendations Manon x
Great tip. I will check out Ballerette.
Good points- but I have a new designer pair of blue-white floral slacks 😮from Talbots and love them! 🎉 Agree with all the other suggestions ‼️
You can do so much better Hawaiian Princess 🙏
I love my plaid bags, different sizes. Two were my Mother's snd she'd haunt me if I got rid of them. I agree about lift though. Drooping is awful.
Enjoy your dear mother's bags ma chère 😘
New subscriber here; I just ‘checked in’ & ended up watching the whole video! I agree with everything you mentioned, absolutely💯
I’ve noticed through my journey in fashion, (which is definitely low-key) I’ve toned everything down, especially make-up. I find make-up makes many beautiful women look older…it settles into their fine lines, accentuating them…
There are so many variables; quality of fabric, color, and silhouette. I remember visiting a consignment shop in Santa Monica, California, and I couldn’t believe the beautiful garments I found in perfect condition for pennies! For I am grateful, when wealthy women discard beautiful garments.⭐️
My ex-husband is French. He’s a pastry chef and a natural, when it comes to fashion! He taught me so much when I was 22! Even though he’s my “ex” we are still very good friends♥️♥️always.
We were very young, & chose completely different paths…
Bonjour Izzy and welcome 🤗 keeping everything simple as you say is very French Chic - no doubt assisted by your ex 😃 buying at consignment shops is a great way to find quality at great prices x
I’m 53 and wear a size 6 and I agree with your advice. Yes, wear what you want and some things are not likely to communicate confidence and current style. For years, I loved wild patterns and I’ve come to realize solids, stripes and dots are often more flattering. Well fitted styling with lovely accessories I find work best. Don’t hide your changing shape, celebrate it with lovely colors that fit well.
Celebrating your shape is perfect 🙌
You're over 60?? I can't believe it! You look amazing!
Merci Apple Gal ❤️
I was quite amused to listen to your tips. Even in my younger age, I never wear floral prints in trousers, blouses, skirts. I always adopted well cut garments in plain colour. As for colour, I knew which colours suit me. Therefore, I continue in my eighties. I have been told that I am the most elegant and stylish woman in my circle My mother used to say that I would always manage to look elegant even wih a "sack". Born French is certainly an asset.
👏
I am almost 84 years old. My hair is pure white.I am slim.and dress in a youthful manner.😊
Nice. White hair doesn't go with my complexion. Washes me out.
I am 65, and will forever wear dark blue jeans. 🎉
💙
I look AWFUL in blue jeans. The GV Amanda jeans fit well but I buy all the colors. ALL the colors.
I was a teenager throughout the 70's and I will never stop wearing jeans--unless I can't bend over anymore to put them on!! Ha!
Great advice as usual .
As for paisley , Etro ‘s designs in clothes and handbags,… are mainly paisley but they mix it with other designs so beautifully .
Ahhh knowing how and when to break the rules Fariba 😉
Have always loved paisley, it's ultimate classic and present in every couture collection even as just a scarf. Same goes for floral prints: a staple of summers past and present, a reminder of nature, beautiful gardens and open fields with wild flowers, and not least joyful weddings and fancy hats. A paisley or floral shirt livens up an otherwise dull business suit in a way stripes never do as they're a harsher geometric print.
The sheep shouting "beige" clip was so funny 😂😂😂
🐑🐑
Yes! I really resent the categorization of fashion by age that retailers try to force us into - especially when they steer us into such ugly, frumpy options. I'd add to Marie-Anne's "droopy bust" point - droopy, shapeless clothing that screams "I've given up." By this I mean long saggy cardigans, long saggy tunics and extra wide elasticated saggy trousers. There's a store in the mall near me that's entirely dedicated to this droopy silhouette - almost entirely in the sad pastel and beige tones Marie-Anne warns against. You guessed it - I've never once seen anyone under 50 in there, and even the mannequins look invisible. Shudder.
You mention never once seeing anyone under 50 in a particular store... I'm 61 and that's my wake up call. If I'm the youngest person in the store, I check myself and make sure I've not been lured in by the tall, thin, young looking manikins in the store window. 🙂
Tailoring, tailoring, tailoring Sparklie 👏
Darn those tall, thin, young looking manikins Rene 😃 they have a lot to answer for
I so hear the OP - I used to think the same. Two companies, in particular, come to my mind with her comment. May I say Eileen Fisher and J. Jill? Still, Ive grown to love what they offer because their fabrics (including cashmere) are exceptional, their workmanship stands the test of time, and their designs are actually beautifully architectural. It’s all in how it’s pulled off - with great posture, great accessorizing, no-apology confidence, and still-act-together foundations. All my life I’ve been model-skinny and tall, and never hesitated to don the block-shapes - they’re avant garde if not downright edgy. Think Uma Thurman in “Pulp Fiction!” The only reason I didn’t as much in my younger years was because I couldn’t afford to spend $200+ on a shirt. Now that I can, I find them not only fun but forgiving. Paired with a fat belt, knock-out-of-the-park scarf, or even Dale of Norway headband, it’s clear I’ve hardly ‘given up!’
Yes! My son used to call a store like that in our local mall the "teacher store". As all his elementary teachers were older women who wore horrid sweaters with things like teddy bears or books stitched on them. Dreadful.
GREAT advice! I realize your video is meant as informative and helpful, and I appreciate your insight, and research into this subject! People can choose to use this info as they please. Every piece of advice you offer is just that, advice. OBVIOUSLY, you can wear whatever you want. I believe Marie is trying to keep you from looking like you are trying too hard (to be younger than you are), and it's that simple. In any case, there are several UA-cams that you can watch that offer the same type of advice. I LOVE there are so many different views that I have access to. I take a little from each lady, and I feel that's all we can do. Support them and thank them for putting themselves out there.
Merci for your considered comment Denise and for supporting other creators in the niche as well 😃. I would if I could add to that support and encourage everyone to support REAL creators not the huge number of AI channels that are springing up in the style space. If people do not support real style creators there is a risk that they will simply give up 🙏
Well, this was a delightful video to come upon. Marie-Anne you are adorable and I love your insights on fashion. I am 44 and trying to navigate fashion these days can be tough!
Merci Sarah Louise 🤗 when it comes to fashion stay with Style and add trends that suit you and pass on the rest 😃
Thanks Marianne. Your final tip was the best. Think young!
😘
Merci Bien Marie-Anne !
25 years ago my sister sat with me as I took everything out of my closet and held each clothing item up for inspection.
She gave an immediate thumbs up or down to each. What got eliminated ? Anything fussy, too trendy, too busy, an unflattering color or somethingor that didn't fit right. I trusted her eye and took her direction.
Like it or not, people pay attention to us, our words and ideas (or not,) based on how they perceive us. Clothing matters
I may put on something completely casual at home...yet when I step outside the door it's showtime !
I love that Em 😃 Let's get this show on the road 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur 😊💃
This was so funny but true. I had not realized brown prints look so bad. I’m ditching mine. Thanks ❤
👍
Well I’m not ditching my Isabel Marants or my Pradas whatever MarieAnne says
I love Paisley and yes, I wear it since I’m young. Maybe I’m the only one. 😅
No you are not.
I, too, wear/decorate with paisley. I am too young to be a hippie, but I have always loved that 70's vibe. Also, I generally like American Designer Ralph Lauren, and he uses a lot of paisley designs.
@@cathylehman7538 I think Paisley can be great used on a few items « par petites touches ».
I love the oriental / mysterious / gipsy touch that it brings.
With an unicolor dress and camel boots, a Paisley scarf can be great (as a belt, on the neck, or in the hair).
I have a tip that I live by: If it makes you happy-wear it!!!!! That is my rule. If I like it, I'll wear it. Simple as that!!! I have never been one to follow trends or what someone else is correct fashion wise! You do you, and I'll do me.
Thank you, Marie-Anne; I agree 100% with all your tips... I'm in very good shape, but still I only wear leggings to the gym--with a long t-shirt worn over them (my gym t-shirts cover my bum!) to hide any and all jigglies!! Wishing you a healthy and happy New Year!
Well done Karen 👏 and a Happy New Year to you - no jigglies indeed 😃
It depends on where you live. Liberty prints have never been terribly fashionable in the US. I doubt that the French give two pins.
We are talking about the French style à la française. The Liberty was and is still present in French populars boutiques: Aigle, Cyrillus, Caroll, Burton, fil à fil. I have bought there my items from original liberty art fabrics. However the liberty is not so popular in France as marinières are. There are some marks that are specialised in marinières.
Dressing for your shape is vital 👍
I will be 84 in July and I feel young in my mind on good days I am peppy !! My husband is 84 in June and he is too !!
That is fantastic Martha 😃
Great video - fun and informative. And I cannot believe you are over 60 - your style and enthusiasm show you clearly practice what you preach because you look SO much younger. Keep the videos coming and Happy New Year to you.
Merci bien Amanda 😘 and a Happy New Year to you too x
Your best video yet!
Glad you think so Ingrid 😃
You are so fun to watch, but ... I'm old no matter what I'm wearing! And...could not care less! What I do care about is looking clean, well-proportioned, and happy. Some days, I'm all about the "old curtains," and other days I am pert in leggings-as-tights and a lifted, happy bust! Thank you, Marie-Anne for keeping clothing so interesting!
I'll add two from the US: sharp pointy-toe shoes and waist/knee length caftan shrugs-a whole swath of unstructured open front layering pieces with a 3/4 length sleeve 😝 There are whole racks of these things in most department stores.
Oh no. We get that in the UK. I'm petite and I am completely swallowed up by these things.
"Are you finding it more difficult to dress well as you get older?" YES!!!😭
I hope this has ben helpful for you ma chère x
Your advice is very helpful! Thank you!
🤗
Excellent tips to remember! However, I think floral pants can look great if the pattern is limited (e.g. like you said, in 2 colors), or when worn as a set (w/ matching top). Kate Middleton is a good example of this. 🌸
Or style printed pants (such as Lilly Pulitzer) preppy style, with a well cut white shirt and trainers or topsiders. Same with the printed flats, with jeans or well tailored pants in a solid color and polo shirt.
That’s true, but then, she looks good in everything! Being tall and having a model’s body also helps!
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is NOT a good example at all. For starters, she's not "a woman over 50". She has quite a few years before she needs to start worrying about patterns that will age her. In addition, she has very low-contrast and conventionally-attractive features, is very tall, slender, and VERY athletic...so most colors flatter her and clothes hang well on her frame. She could wear a willow basket and look good. That's not the case for most of us. Floral pants and prairie dresses only look good on people who are so young that looking "older" and "retro" would be a desirable thing.
@@margauxshaw9873 Lilly Pulitzer, Vera Bradley, Kendra Scott and the like are for college students who think granny-chic is a riot and for soccer moms who wish they were in their college years. None of it is elegant or timeless.
Kate is still a young woman. I could wear almost anything still at 40. I'm 62 now, and I found that the ageing process really speeded up in the last five years. Luckily, I lost 50lb, in last 18mths, so I claimed a few years back.
I so needed this video right now MarieAnne, I dont know if its because it's New Year or what, but in my late 50s Ive totally lost my way style wise and dont know which direction Im going. Can we have more of these type of videos Marie-Anne, they are so reassuring and helpful, pleeease!! 😊😊
You certainly can Janine 🙏 I am so sorry you feel like you have lost your way - you are in the right place to get your style journey back on track 😘
Some woman look fabulous with grey, silver, platinum hair. Some of us look sick, it adds years. Some skin tones just don’t look good with the greys.
Exactly right M 👍
Hi Marie-Anne! I just wanted to say, as someone who is a young woman right now, even I am taking inspiration from your style!
It’s not bad to look older, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look well put together. That said, in the clips where you showed your full outfits, if you told me you were in your 40s I would 100% believe you! I LOVE the cut of all your trousers. Very modern in the most chic way.
Merci 🤗
I agree with your tips except for the anorak. I think an anorak can be appropriate for a day of hiking, but not a day in the city. An anorak may not be the latest fashion but the squirrels, bears, and mountain lions won't know that and won't mind.
I agree. There are styles suitable in the country that don't look right in the city. Where I live, for example, structured handbags are almost entirely an old-lady thing. They don't suit our casual rural vibe. It's the same with anoraks. When it's cold and pouring down buckets of rain in a 35 mph wind, a hooded anorak is the most practical protection. A trenchcoat and umbrella just isn't going to cut it.
Accepted Ellen - I am not sure that my style advice really extends to what to wear when hiking!
I have worn stripes my whole life - luv them
