Steel Board & Batten Clip System Siding Install

The perfect siding system when paired with post frame construction. This is a 26ga steel product that installs via a clip system located under each batten.
In my opinion, this is the best looking steel board and batten product out there due to the higher and wider profile batten. Install is a little different than most other products and it is very DIY friendly.

It's better to install a 1x6 trim around all windows and doors because that gives you 5-1/2" clearance If the window or door ever needs to be replaced without having to touch the siding. Plus that added 5-1/2" trim makes the building look more finished like compared to a cookie cutter subdivision house vs to a traditional house built in the early 1900s, it just has that well-built look. You are young enough that you will replace windows in that house assuming you still live there in 30 years.

I wrestled with this exact thought during the design phase. After I planned all the window locations so the edges fell between the ribs I had the thought of trimming them with PVC boards. I probably would have had to adjust all the locations so I made to decision to omit the trim. A decision I may regret later.

If a rainscreen is used under this siding, do you know what type would be best to use?

I use a synthetic roof underlayment for the house. For the garage I used a 30lb felt and I have not had any noticeable water issues. Anything to keep the water off your wall system is all you need.
