this is amazing! im colombian but this video really helped me. i think the metro system can really be confusing sometimes. thanks so much for the video :)
Thanks for this helpful video. I'll be going to Medellin for my 1st time in a few weeks and plan to use the Metro. If my 1st station will be Poblado or Aguacatala (since that's where my hotel is), can I still get a card like the one you got? I noticed that you had to recharge your card for your return trip on this video - does this mean that for your original purchase, they only put in enough to cover one trip plus the cost of the card? Also, do you know if I take the Metro up to Parque Arvi which requires paying again at the station halfway up, do I use the same card? I understand that the fare however for this last part up to the top is much higher so I guess I need to make sure I have enough on a card for a round trip.
When I first got the card I told him where I was going. So he only loaded it with the needed amount. However it would have been better to just load it with a larger amount which would have covered my return trip. If you just hand them cash without saying a destination, they will put the whole amount on the card. If you have no card they will sell you that at the same time. You should be able to use that same card going to Parque Arvi. At least there is always a ticket booth where you can purchase more fare if needed. Good luck. Enjoy your trip!
@@tomsaway123 Thanks so much. Yes I think I will have the card loaded up with the amount of trips I project I'll be doing during my stay including the Parque Arvi ones.
Heyo A bit late, but here are some tricks for those people who wants to go to Medellin, and plan to ride on Metro: 1. To start your trip on Metro, you can acquire the Cívica Eventual card either on ARMs (Automatic Recharge Machines) or in stations's ticket booths. The card itself has a cost of $10.900 Colombian pesos, but to actually get inside, you will have to recharge it; I recommend you to recharge AT LEAST $6400 Colombian pesos if you plan to do a go-to/back-to trip, but if you only want to go to a certain station and you won't be using Metro anymore for the day, recharge just $3250 Colombian pesos. 2. To save time, in almost every Metro station are some ARMs; you can recharge your card there. If you're outside of stations, you can recharge it in some GANA spots in the street. 3. To recharge in ARMs, you must: First insert your card (you can ask Educative Guides or Metro's internal workers where to do this) in the machine. Then wait a few seconds while ARM reads your card and shows you the actual balance of your card. To recharge it, just touch in the screen the button "Recarga sin devuelta" (Recharge without return). After that, just insert the money in the place designed for it (it will glow green). After you entered all the total value you want to recharge, just touch the button "Recargar" (Recharge). Then wait a few seconds, and if in the screen displays "Transacción realizada" (Transaction succeeded), touch "Finalizar" (End) button and then take away your card from the ARM. In some ARMs, exists an option called "Recarga con devuelta" (Recharge with return). With this option, you can select the exact value you want to recharge, but only 1000 multiple values are valid (like 1000, 3000, 4500, 5000, and so on). If you want to recharge this way, select Recarga con devuelta, select the exact value you want to recharge, then enter the money, and after that, after you entered the exact value or more (i.e. you selected 5000, but you entered 10000 pesos), wait a few seconds and then the machine will give you the return, and then just touch Finalizar and take away your card. 3. With your Cívica Eventual, you can do transfers between Metro's lines without any additional charges. Just don't go outside of the station (I mean, if you're now inside the station, don't cross through the entering tourniquets). 4. If you don't have enough money to cover the minimum, since you don't have the Cívica Personalizada-type card, the system won't let you get pass through. With a Cívica Personalizada-type card, if you don't have enough money to cover the minimum value, the system will "lent" you the value of that pass ticket. But I say "lent" since when you recharge your card again, that value is going to be discounted for the recharge value (I mean, the pass ticket value is $3250 Colombian pesos; if you have a Cívica Personalizada card, and i.e you only has 2300, the system will take those 2300 and will still let you pass but will say "SALDO PENDIENTE" (PENDING BALANCE); that means that, when you recharge again, suppose you will recharge 7000 pesos, the system will discount 1750 pesos from that value). The Cívica Personalizada card is the green one (well, now all of them are just white, but the card will say Cívica Personalizada anyway). If you want one, you need to have the Foreigness Citizenship Card (Cédula de Extranjería). If you have that, you can go to Metro CSPs (Customer Service Points), located in stations San Antonio, San Javier, Acevedo (line P), Itagüí and Niquía to get your Cívica Personalizada. Some tricks and tips if you plan to go to Medellin and also plan to use Metro :)
Hey thanks. I stayed at an Airbnb in Medellin $344/month. Very small studio. air.tl/59X3e5UO Rio same price but I shared a place with 3 others. My housing was better in Medellin but I'd prefer Rio. Felt more dangerous but I liked the beach atmosphere.
