  • I test two different glazes to see which works better for a rice grain effect. The idea is to create a hole in the ceramic piece which is then filled with glaze creating a small translucent window. I test two different glazes looking for one with enough surface tension to cover the hole. I also test a cover glaze and a raw clay body, and check out a few different hole sizes.

You should get yourself an immersion blender, makes mixing small batches much more consistant. I like your balloon idea for masking off the inside! Thats genius.

I already have an immersion blender and yes it's great for mixing glazes

Huh. different minds. i would have thought you would have dipped half the pot in one glaze, and then the other half in the other glaze. not sure if it would make a difference, but surface tension might play a role.

I've tried that but the result was rather inconsistent. It will also become more important when I add colors to the mix and I am still interested in the raw clay finish as well
