      Oh yes, the Bernett is running smoothly as butter and compared to the Singer not as loud but maybe I am too used to my Singer and feel she has more power under the hood. I will love my Bernette B38 a bit more. :)

    Ha, perfect timing for this video, thank you so much Alicia 🙏🏻! My son just gifted me a shirt that he can’t wear any more because it is worn at the collar. Even though he is an XL and I am an XS I quickly realized i will need extra fabric. I do not have an embroidery machine but I can crochet so that should work out. I love how your old pants turned into a gorgeous blouse. And I appreciate you showing us your failed attempts too, there is always something to be learned in the process. You’re a gem!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому

      Hello hello :) how fun, I am pretty sure you will make some awesome and you are so right... There isn't as much fabric as we initially think, even with difference in sizes, but that's what makes the creative juices go to work :) oh, crochet would look so gorgeous! By the way, if you do have a sewing machine that does those pretty decorative stitches - then you can do the same thing I did. Basically I took 2 decorative stitches and then placed them together to create a wide embroidery pattern, and that's it. I have done in it before on my Singer, too :)

    The white blouse you made from those pants is a keeper. It's beautiful and one of a kind. Sometimes handing the project to someone else (for their use) solves the problem. Years ago, my babysitter was trying to make herself a new pair of pull on pants. The fabric was a very nice, dark blue, polyester; and, she sewed it with a very small stitch (in a matching blue thread). She could not get the stitching out to alter the pants; so, she gave them to me. I could not see well enough to get the stitches out either; so, I gave them to my mother. Mother could see the stitches and took the pants apart. She re-cut and sewed them for herself. They became her favorite pair of pants (and she wore them out).

    Wonderful seeing all your ingenious creations, and hearing your thought processes. Thank you. And I have to say, what a lucky guy your husband is - he loves those shorts and you sure did show your love for him by hand stitching in a lining so you could continue to mend them. Fantastic idea. When they really are past the point of repair, do take a pattern and make him some more, because they suit him very well. You’ll have to look out for some patchwork style cotton fabric in the meantime 😂

    Really impressed with what you came up with for the white blouse. Due to the sheerness of the pant, I probably would have used it for a bag lining or given it to charity. Who would have thought such a gem of a cute blouse was hidden in there! Just goes to show you that hidden treasures are lurking everywhere.

    You can try adding some tricot interfacing to the seams of the blue garment. But I think you’re right. A more fluid garment, less fitted would make more sense with such a delicate fabric. Perhaps another top with gathered sleeves for you or your little one? 😊 I love the white blouse!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому +1

      You are so right, I don't even know what I was thinking when I just went with the zipper fly. I think I was in the zone of - "making another pair of pants from pants" so I did not question myself enough and did not think it through. I would have done a lapped zipper in the side seam, or even perhaps an invisible zipper, although not my favorite when it comes to pants particularly, but I did not have enough fabric so I can cut that extra seam allowance into the side seam. The fabric was too drapey and unstable for anything structured like a zipper fly and back pockets. It is some sort of drapey chambray, very similar to viscose or rayon in how it acts and flows. And you know how it is with these type of fabrics - cutting on grain is a challenge, not to mention anything else. As a result the extra weight of the zipper fly pulled the construction of the front crotch down and so did the back pockets. Just a droopy mess :) Yes, you are reading my mind - thinking of a flowy top. I just need to decide what features to make it with so that it goes well with clothes in my wardrobe

    thank you for another very creative and helpful Video. I am going to get a new Sewing Mashine and it will be a Singer Sewing Mashine. Right now I have a Bernette B38 wich I like, but I never loved it all that much so I am always going back to my old Singer Confidence 7463. I am exited to see your new Sewing Mashine.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  Рік тому

      Petra, hello there! Oh, my new sewing machine is Bernette B38! :) He he, half of that blouse was made on it, and then I mended some of the holes in the shorts with the darning function it has. My old sewing machine, which is not going anyway, (no no 😁) is also singer confidence, but 7470 and it is about 10 years old. It is a solid machine, not too simple, not too fancy - just right. And I have been sewing on it pretty much every other day for the first 5 years and almost every day for the second 5 years. It still has a lot of juice in it, but I can feel and hear the wear, because I have made with it every possible thing under the sun :) where Bernette of course is smooth as a butter. B38 is basically the same as my Singer, just 10 years newer with all the new features like thread auto cut off and things like that. It is also not too fancy, not too simple and the buttonhole on it is well done - I couldn't believe my eyes. My singer's buttonholes are okay, they will do. But so far, I really love it! Eeek :) I only have brother/Singer machines, so this for me is a new adventure :)

    • @PetraRobinson-gm8nh

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity I still use the Bernette, but I do not know why I am not loving it as I should because it is a great machine. I am excited to see you using the Bernette. I might pick up some things that I am doing wrong.

    I love all of your upcycles and how they represent tiny changes to very involved exercises in problem-solving. I'm thinking about how I might use the idea of a lining for pants to help my leggings last longer... I bicycle to work, and the backsides tend to wear out quickly 😁 I think that gorgeous white blouse is my second-favorite upcycles of yours. My all-time favorite is the navy blazer that you made by reusing a pleated skirt. Both were complex projects, but wow the results!!! Thanks, Alisa (and "supervisor")

    What do you mean that on the last failed project that the "fabric didn't want nothing to do with it" when you tried to turn it into a different pair of pants? What was the fabric doing? I don't think I know enough about fabric yet to understand. Plus I have autism so... Was the fabric "unweaving" itself or something??

      The fabric was too drapey and unstable for anything structured like a zipper fly and back pockets. It is some sort of drapey chambray, very similar to viscose or rayon in how it acts and flows. I would never (maybe only in some exceptional circumstance) do a zipper fly in flowy viscose, but here for some reason I just went with it. As a result the extra weight of the zipper fly pulled the construction of the front crotch down and so did the back pockets. I hope this help you understand :)

    Really like this series. I am waiting for you to upcyle non stretch linen pants. I have some that I wore once, they sag after about 30 minutes of wear so I don't wear them. would like to do something with the fabric

      Hello there and thank you so much for watching :) I would try washing the linen pants and see if that helps. I made myself a wide leg linen pant (there is a video for it on my channel) and the linen does like to get looser after a few wears, but after wash it goes back. I don't have linen pants to upcycle, but you can use the idea of the first blouse, the cotton on the pants has no stretch. Also... you can use ANY of the top/blouse tutorials I have on my channel (more than 20) and turn your pants into a gorgeous top.

    Amazing, so smart!!! Not only the ideas are very interesting all along, especially with the white blouse, but to draft and execute those elements so correctly so to form a proper garment, it is amazing.

      Then.... Don't watch my videos. I am sorry, but this is how I show the significance of the garments I have, why I kept them, what I like about them, sharing the journey and the upcycles. I am not keeping you here against your will, you can always mute the video and watch without sound if me talking bothers you. Have a great day!
