Ive just got back to Australia from Tokyo about 12 hours ago.
I got super lucky with the Lost bar as was super quiet when I got there and got a seat straight away. By the time I left after 1 cocktail there was a mega line though!
    Great vid

Great first day. We had chocolate and custard filled Taiyaki which were delicious, had the candied strawberries in china town (Yokohama) during our first trip but didn’t try the spiral potato. We averaged 20,000 steps most days and 26,000 was our best. We visited so many shrines/temples and didn’t do our fortunes once - didn’t want to get a bad one 😱 Looking forward to day 2 🤗🤗

Thank you! Chocolate and custard taiyaki sound amazing-we’d love to try those next time! The candied strawberries were great, but you definitely have to try the spiral potato if you get the chance. We totally get skipping the fortunes; sometimes it’s better not to risk it, haha! Can’t wait to share day 2 with you! xx

The Tori-no-ichi festival held every November at Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku is also known as the Otorisai Festival and is known for attracting many worshippers.
As the city of Shinjuku developed, the festival grew in scale, and is now counted as one of the three biggest festivals in the Kanto region, along with the festivals at Otori Shrine in Asakusa and Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu.
The first festival held on the first day of the rooster in November is called Ichi-no-tori, the second is called Ni-no-tori, and in some years it is held three times (San-no-tori). On the day of the festival, lanterns are hung around the shrine, including the torii gate, and street vendors selling rakes line the streets.
As it is close to Shinjuku Kabukicho, the area around the shrine becomes even more festive as people who work in the area visit the festival all at once. The shrine is bustling with young people dressed up beautifully and people praying for prosperity in business for the coming year. During the festival, many food and drink stalls line the roads around the shrine, so you can enjoy eating your way around the shrine in a festival-like atmosphere.
Scaffolding is erected for this purpose.
Thank you very much for coming to Japan. We look forward to working with you again.

Thank you so much for sharing all this information! It’s incredible to hear how deeply rooted it is in the culture and how it brings the community together in such a vibrant way. The atmosphere you described sounds so festive-we’ll definitely keep it in mind for a future trip to Japan! Visiting your beautiful country was such a wonderful experience, and we really appreciate the warm welcome!

When I returned from my first visit, I had culture shock when I landed back at Heathrow
It made me realise just how rubbish England was
It took me a few weeks to get over just what a disaster this country is

The good old reverse culture shock..... Happened to me when I returned to the UK after my first time in Japan. Walking down the main shopping street and seeing all of the 'Yummy Mummys' pushing their prams with cigarettes in hand, whilst swearing at their older children..... Made me think about how I didn't see any such behaviour whilst in Japan.

You probably already know this now, but you won't see mt fuji from that view. Despite what that drawing says, i believe you are looking south as you are in shinjuku and can see shibuya. Mt Fuji is west of tokyo. If you've got any chance of seeing it, you'd have to look really far to your right, almost parallel with the window, not straight ahead.

It was early evening, maybe around 6pm. Someone else said they went about 2:30pm and managed to get in no problem.
