It's funny how this is regarded as a sorta "miniature sedan", when 30 years ago, this was about mid-size for a family car.

Good ideea with the cylinder deactivation mode and along with a valve variable system the engine is quite good in terms of performance and consumption

I just recently bought an audi a3 and to my surprise it doesn't even have independent rear suspension. My vw golf 6, which is a generation older, did have it. That was a bit disappointing to see.

no problem, metal plate and boot is isolated from above in area of rear speaker. Spot is invisible to client in normal situation and additional bezel from below would be a waste of space and unnesecary weight. greetings

No mention of an A4 if you want more space. Hmmm. Carbuyer don't seem to like promoting Audi much. They seem obsessed with BMW and Ford. I wonder why...

I had one for a year, it was a 1.4 petrol, but i would not recommend that engine.... my god it was a piece of crap... go for a 2.0 if you can! (And don't pick grey interior... it was my main reason for selling it) :)

I agree RetroGamerVX, I have an Audi A4 and it constantly wants attention. Getting real tired of its crap. This is a car with low mileage and full service history, fully maintained and still it drips and leaks and squeaks at every opportunity!
Will you ever make a review of a new C-Class ? Only please, do it with petrol engine as here not a tractor Diesel, rattle shaker.

bootspace figures wont tell the whole story; e.g. with a hatch or wagon u can load it above the window line which I believe would not be reflected in official figures

don't think you get the screen if you don't get sat nav ... so you can't just retrofit the sat nav with just a memory card ....
WRX and A3 is around the same price in my country. I love the two but I am not sure which one is pick...

mr mat needs to stop criticising middle rear seat room because unless a car is in high executive class, it will never be good for 5 and, as he said on beggining for the boot not being practical as in hatch, but you don't need it to be, the same goes for middle seat. who drives 5 grown people in a car? and how does he think traditional automatic starts faster from standstill than dual clutch system???? dsg has about the same acceleration (if not the same) as manual versions....
You guys are nuts. 74 MPG !!!!!! What is that average to you guys ? My mercedes does 15 city and 24 hwy.
the UK (Imperial) Gallon is bigger than the US Gallon
And also, here in the UK our efficiency tests are outdated and don't reflect modern driving (tests are over 30 years old) and the manufacturers fiddle with their cars (to make them more economical on the test) - these claimed mpg figures are nowhere near what you would get in reality.
74 UK mpg is roughly 60 US mpg.
But again, it's a diesel, and almost all US cars are big gasoline engines, so of course high mpg numbers, are something rare for you :)

don't get fooled by the fact that this has a larger boot than the sportback, because the opening is so small you can't actually fit anything large in it.

The interior is so simple ! Actually there is no dashboard jut the air vents and a screen.
Matt get with it....this is not a 3 series rival......A4 is a 3 series rival...this is more like a 1 series...VW golf / Jetta rival..........but is it worth it......I think the Jetta's boot is bigger..

I have this car in white,it ticks all the boxes for me,im 5"7...this car is low,difficult to get in and out of,so if your any taller id think twice😊
@4:20 - So who wants to go to a A3 saloon/sedan? Say you have been enjoying your beloved A3 (hatchback); now that you have a family or your family is getting crowded (with new members perhaps) but you still want to keep your A3 experience; you decide to go for a sedan. But why-oh-why, does AUDI do this? If the rear seat is so tight what is the point of a sedan? A car brand who does not want to sell his cars...
Sorry Matt, but there's no such tax as 'road tax' its vehicle tax. A tax on the emissions not a charge to use the roads, which are paid for by general taxation.

1. rear seats don't fall completely flat
2. boot has very high opening and the boot floor is quite low so, you can't slide your luggage in/out
3. front and rear visibility aren't so good due to very thick pillars
all these points were missed...had these issues existed in an american, french or japanese car, the reviewer would have cried over them...i am not being critical of the particular car...but, i would like the reviewer to be neutral while reviewing any brand of car.
Cut him some slack, he is just doing a 5 min car review. He is always neutral and states pros and cons.
Well duhh almost no sedans have those things that you are talking about. If you want those things, look at the review of the hatch. Use your common sense and know coming into the video that this wont be as practical as a hatch.
They've never knocked seats that don't fold completely flat in a sedan, they'll only mention that in hatchbacks as far as I've seen.

I absolutely agree with you
Your habit of slamming the doors shut as hards as you can literally shatters my teeth. You can achieve your objective with a gentle push or pull. I would also be a happier viever if you didn't jam large bottles into cupholders and if you didn't shut bags in the armrests. I don't have such weird expectations as an end user. I wouldn't offer you a drive back home after work if we were colleagues.

This A3 may look stylish but it shares most of the underbody components with a VW Jetta. Don't believe me, visit any VW Mexico Manufacturing Plant and you'll see A3s and Jettas are being built almost identically on the same machinery (At least this is true for the North American market vehicles)
It’s commonly known that Audi A3 has underpinnings from a VW Golf. I don’t see how that’s a bad thing? No body thinks it’s bad. It’s nicer version of an already quite decent car. The price difference between the two isn’t huge. It also means the parts are affordable and the repairs easy. I think Americans just don’t understand VW. They make solid cars and VW isn’t lowers of the low. Skoda and Seat in Europe rank below them. Depending how much you’re willing to spend. You can always get a nicer more stylish vehicle which possibly better suits your personality. Seat -> Skoda -> Cupra -> VW -> Audi -> Porsche -> Bentley and Lamborghini. From most affordable VW brands to most expensive. Every brand offers a nicer level. Depending of the vehicle many share platforms with vehicles on the same level.

We compared it to the more expensive 3 Series because there isn't currently a four-door 2 Series (and the Active Tourer is a hatchback). They're not natural rivals, but it is possible to buy a 3 Series for not much more than the A3 Saloon we've tested here.

Can somebody explain to me why the United Kingdom has better mpg then the USA?
UK gallon is 20% larger than the US gallon hence the higher mpg figures.

Also factor in a UK mile is only 1524 meters where as a US mile is about 1609.
***** Actually that's not quite right both use the international mile which equates to 1760 yards or around 1609 metres as you say. There is a U.S survey mile but it is very marginally smaller than the international mile.

This is a niché too far, it's biggest competitor is Audi's own A4, this just seems like the previous generation of that. So stick to the 3 door hatch A3 or get the better looking and cheaper and bigger new Skoda Octavia, which is basically an Audi underneath anyway !!!
