I am so glad I stumbled on your video. I started crocheting 2 years ago and I have become so serious with it. In recent time, I have been obsessed with designing my own pattern. I will really love to be one of your testers.
Appreciate hearing someone else who isn't a math person writes patterns. I am not a math person at all and beginning to wonder if it's possible for me to do patterns. I love drawing and painting and feel I'm very good creatively, but I've never been a numbers person. But I think if I can get a rhythm down and hone in my ADHD I can do it.
I just had to send feedback to a company for a pattern I bought that had many errors that you just talked about here. I appreciate it when a pattern is written well. I do enjoy math and I could correct the majority of the issues just from experience but I expect more from a paid pattern even if it is part of a kit. If that is the only way to get it, it is a paid pattern and should be tech edited. Thanks.
This is really great! I have a couple of project ideas I’ve been toying with. This is inspiring me to see if I can write them out in a way that makes sense.
I'm just now seeing your video, 13 Nov 23, Monday, and I can't wait to dive in! Although I've been designing my own unique crochet patterns for scarves, and hats-- I just didn't know how to WRITE them! Thank you for sharing your insights!
Thank you for all the tips. Would you say is a good practice to give credit to the original creator of the pattern but still create one and share it with others with modifications that you made due to being easier for beginners?
I have seen others show an example project they made, and state where the original pattern can be found, then give some "tips and tricks" of a few modifications they made to that project. But sharing the actual written instructions of someone else's patterns is not ok. Making minor modifications to that pattern does not change their design significantly and so sharing that would be a copyright violation.
So, here is a quick question. I found a snowflake on you tube and thought it would make a great center for a mandala/doily. I have it created and wrote down the steps. Can I sell it or not? If I start doing this, I want to make sure that I am doing it the right way. Thanks for your help.
If you took someone elses' pattern and changed it, it is still their pattern in my opinion. Honestly it really depends on if you created something that looks similar or if you took the pattern and adjusted it slightly (making it bigger or smaller, etc.)
@@HappilyHookedMagazine Gotcha, half mine and half the other persons, still can’t sell. I will chalk that one up to experience of making a snowflake and creating a mandala. I appreciate your time and love what you do.💙
I'm starting to write my own patterns and I would love to have a tester. It would mean a lot if you could recommend me to someone who does it for you and loves doing it!!
Hello! When it comes to lengths of straps, that varies greatly depending on the cut of the top you are making. Is it a higher neckline, v neck, boat neck, etc. That is all personal preference dependent on the crochet designer.
I tend to type in key words to ravelry/pinterest to see if someone has already made something exactly when I am designing. "Front Post Double Crochet Beanie" or something like that and then just a quick glance to see if the hat matches. BUT, imo, if you designed it without using anyone else design as a reference, it's yours.
@@HappilyHookedMagazine So, I haven't found any patterns with the combo stitches I used. Now to name the pattern. Is there a such thing as using same name of a pattern but using different stitches? I've seen many X's and O's but they don't look the same.
@@dimpledface9707 I tend to name my patterns based on what they are or cities in my state but there are a ton of "Best Crochet Beanie" named patterns out there. That is 100% up to you!
HI, I'm new to your channel and looking for a video of how to write a crochet pattern. I can make the garments but when it come to pattern writing is something new to learn. ;)

it helps to actually know how to crochet and use patterns before writing them. :) I hope you are able to figure out a way to be creative with crochet.
This is exactly how I created my pattern. 🥰 I take pictures with my iPad, and I post them to my Instagram so I have copies of the progress.
This is exactly what I was looking for thank you for this info.

What is the link to your blog?
Hi. I will like to be a tester.
Can you make a video about size and right lenght of straps???

@@HappilyHookedMagazine is there any guide of all types of that??
Not that I know of but Crafty Yarn Council may have something (they are the standard for all body measurements in crochet garments.)
I want to start writing patterns
Can we have a link for your website? I'd love to see it!
Hi Beatrice! Sam's own webpage can be found here- creatinginthemitten.com
Do you ever write patterns using symbols
I see SO many people straight up ripping off patterns from people with impunity.
I created a pattern today accidentally but how do I know someone else hasn't done it already?
