Scratch off cards with one time effects, 88 dollars for a pen, and non-uniform card backs. Starting to wonder if the big three were just incredible luck.
Why didn't they use an ink that reacts with UV light and the tip of the wand could be like a flashlight, instead of scraping the letter and never using the ink again it would simply become invisible over time and you would have to put the light back on to to appear ?
Honestly Mazica may be worse since Redakai's clear plastic card gimmick had a tangible function for the gameplay. Mazica could have literally replaced the scratch mechanic with any other feature to permanently (or better yet temporarily) alter cards and the book case and you wouldn't have lost anything. Heck it probably would have made the cards cheaper to produce and easier to afford, as the high price for the products probably was what killed the series.
Hope you enjoyed the few eps we fansubbed. Too bad it's not your thing, but hopefully others won't write it off entirely based on this disparaging video. I found the show & its designs very fun and its writing amusing despite the admittedly cheap gimmick. I'm hoping to pick the translation back up at some point when I finish up other projects.
I don’t care how much hate there is on mazica party, I am invested in this show and I WILL NOT STOP until I see EVERY EPISODE IN IT’S ENTIRETY!!! (If it is english subbed, of course, if not then… consequences be damned.)
I've been combing through the fan wiki and I'm sorry, the Majin designs are amazingly creative and cool. DID YOU SEE THE BRIDGE DRAGON?? THE CHAINSAW STEGOSAURUS??? It's such a shame that this IP feels like it was rushed out the door before it was ready just to meet a deadline. There was so much potential here, if only they had a chance to really flesh it out
i have an explanation for the "mazica" part! While Hepburn romanization, the most common form internationally, uses "ji" for じ/ジ to match how the sound is pronounced, other forms of romanization, such as Kunrei-shiki (which is more common within Japan itself) use "zi", to keep it consistent with za/zu/ze/zo, since they're considered to be the same consonant/part of the same consonant group. despite being written differently when romanized, they're still the same character and are pronounced the same, so the "majica" puns still make sense to a Japanese audience ('majin' is even romanized as 'mazin' on the logo itself, when describing the game as a 'mazincard game'). it probably would have made more sense to change it to a J when localizing it for english audiences (especially for the targeted younger audience, who probably won't know any of this information and won't make the mazica-magic connection as easily), but i imagine at that point they just wanted brand consistency with the existing japanese materials.
I absolutely love the ascetic of this line and if I could actually read Japanese I would probably collect the cards... or at least get to finally finish watching the show which I was vibeing with until the fansubs stopped.
Do I sense a potential video on Level-5's decline in the future? This next Inazuma Eleven in particular is bordering on Duke Nukem Forever/Beyond Good and Evil 2 levels of languishing (won't be surprised if it misses the next release date).
speaking of scratch off cards, have you taken a look at Scratch Wars again? No english release seems to exist but is still getting support with official events & reprints
To be fare I can totally see the Book sistem working like Pokemon where both players put their chosen unit and from there go with a main deck and a propper field. Is not so much they tried to copy other stuff is that the execution was very flawed and the greed got to them in time. In the hands of a experienced developer I can see it working. PD: I will defend Balloonya's design do, I think it looks pretty sick my only Ishue with it is that it's supose to be a Cat instead of a Rabbit which would be more fitting for a Magic releated setting
I wonder if this is foreshadowing that you're going to do a Zatch Bell Card game review maybe an entire video on spell book cards games we need more of those! [Also how expensive are just the booklets?]
I remember this game and anime first coming out and being confused as to how the scratch-off aspect would be viable in the long term .. figures that it wasn't 😬
@@burner555 yup appmon is a digimon spinoff, and the new digimon webmanga in the last chapter created a fusion between appmon and digimon called maquinamon.

I was going to say that spelling it mazica with a z was them being stoopid and too literal, grabbing the word as it's spelt in katakana マジカ and then romanizing it "letter by letter", while also using the old romanization standard that makes more sense in japanese than english. Then i noticed they spelt mazica with a c instead of a k... yeah no i'm completely lost in how they managed to reach that dumb spelling.
I wouldn’t say the next level 5 game is pure ai yet. An ai made background is understandable since that wouldn’t alter gameplay, and the people saying the white strawberries are AI, no they’re wrong, white strawberries are real in japan

@@albydragondono It has some interesting rules, but they filled the game with many really stupidly powerful cards that broke it.

Japanese Redakai doesn't exist it can't hurt you
Japanese Redakai:
And it came from takara tomy of all people too
Redakai Was somehow better designed

Well, when you get invited to said magical school via a letter delivered by a white owl, as seen in Episode 2...

I loved the use of Earthbound music.
