Snowfall in Sahara Desert is getting more frequent! Why?

  • This is the Sahara desert blanketed by a rare snowfall. The desert, more commonly known for its hot and dry climate, is currently witnessing this very rare occurrence.
    On January 18th, temperatures had plummeted to -2 deg C near the town of Ain Sefra in northwest Algeria. The area is surrounded by the Atlas Mountains and is 1,000m above sea level. But the phenomenon is still rare as it has seen snow just five times in the last 43 years. This is because there is not usually enough water in the air despite it being able to get very cold at night.
    The desert is much hotter the majority of the time, with an average temperature during the day hitting 38 deg C. Ain Sefra, also known as the gateway to the desert, has a heat record of more than 50 deg C.
    There are speculations that this rare snowfall is due to climate change. The occurrence reveals how these types of events are going to get extremely common in the future as the climate is continuously changing due to global warming.
    Such situations, including snowfalls in Sahara, a long cold spell in North America, very warm weather in the European part of Russia and sustained rains which sparked flooding in Western European countries, have been occurring more frequently. The high recurrence of these extreme conditions does stem from global warming.
    With increasing climate change, scientists expect that the winter is going to change more than the summer. So we have to pay more attention to our winter weather forecasts.
    As for the Sahara, with more of such unexpected events, the desert is expected to become green again in about 15,000 years!
    Down to Earth is Science and Environment fortnightly published by the Society for Environmental Communication, New Delhi. We publish news and analysis on issues that deal with sustainable development, which we scan through the eyes of science and environment.

    Rains on sahara are matter of higher ocean and medditearanean see temperature (SST) which brings more winter snow and summer monsoons (WAM) to the sahara and arabia. Thousands years ago sahara was wet due to the milanchovich maximum - stronger insolance increased SST on north globe.
    Now if the global temperature will increase, more precipitations will occur in sahara even in minimum milanchovich phase .
    For example during warm pliocene the desert was much smaller than today. And of course due to the milanchovich cycle size of desert increased and decreased in pliocene too.
    So I await new sahara + arabia wet phase in 70-100 years. More often snowfall during winter is just begining.

    • @SachinTube_
      @SachinTube_ 2 роки тому

      No. We're not unless:
      1. Massive volcanic eruptions occur, resulting in ash blocking the sunlight for decades
      2. We stop burning fossil fuels and meat consumption overnight; also pump out sun blocking aerosols over the arctic
      Neither of which are likely
      Furthermore, nobody uses the term "Global Warming" anymore, because even though technically correct, the increase in average global temperatures won't be experienced uniformly across the regions with arctic losing ice caps in the summer and Sahara experiencing snowfall in the winters.
      "Climate Change" is the preferred nomenclature

    Primarily due to erratic jet-stream, due to effect of ocean currents on polar ice masses. There are leads and lags causing this effect ~ 70year cycle. We passed a peak in 2012, so jet-stream should stabilise.

    So global warming results in colder, humid weather in a hot, dry desert, resulting in snow. Is there anything they can't explain in terms of global warming with this kind of fuzzy logic.... I think it would have been better if they had just said the Saharra saw a rare snow event that has in fact occurred 5 times in the last 43 years. When you keep pushing global warming as the reason for events that contradict the global warming hypothesis, it becomes increasingly difficult to give it any kind of possible credibility.

    • @oldineamiller9007

      And this leads to the only logical conclusion: The AGW-theory is pure nonsense.
      We all know that from our childhood. When your initial lie encounters more and more doubts, you have only two possibilities:
      Confess or add more lies.
      The more lies you add the more it gets difficult to keep track of your lies. This causes contradictions, which need to be fixed by even more lies. The whole thing gets progressively inconsistant and eventually it blows up.
      Storys like the one in this video make that very clear: The climate lie is now at it's last stage.

The tropical troposphere is stubbornly resistant to the warming it is supposed to see in global warming theory. Perhaps the answers lies somewhere else.

      Now it backfires right in their face, since that f...ing global temperature refuses to play the game.

    We are entering into a Grand Solar Minimum, a 390 year cyclic cooling trend. Indeed we are 2 years into it already and will get worse every year for the next 32 to 42 years. Cooler atmosphere contracts which slows down the jet stream causing huge loops in the stream. This is why the climate is changing now, why there is snow in the Sahara and record rain in in other countries that are typically dry. The last GSM, the Maunder Minimum, you may recall in your history books where the Thames froze over, crops failed world wide, and diseases proliferated. This new Minimum, right on time, is called the Eddy Minimum. You are being lied to regarding global warming.

    • @pete2070
      @pete2070 2 роки тому

      That's why "global warming" was quietly altered to Climate Change. And they talk about climate change, as if it began only recently. If it gets cold enough for crops to fail, life will get seriously difficult. 390 years is several lifetimes. How many will perish?

    • @Jake-rs9nq
      @Jake-rs9nq 2 роки тому

      You're right that the sun is entering the dimmest part of its cycle. However, we are seeing continued warming when we'd expect to see, if anything, very slight cooling. In other words, greenhouse gases have not only canceled out this minimum, they've taken the climate in the other direction, just as has been happening for 150 years. (Technically humans started altering the course of global climate change closer to 8000 years ago, but that's another topic).

    • @oldineamiller9007
      @oldineamiller9007 2 роки тому

      Well I agree with most parts of your post but not with the numbers. The De Vries cycle lenght is 220 to 250 years and we are approching the second GSM after the Maunder minimum. We are 2 years in the 25th solar cycle. So the absolute minimum will be in 2030 or 2031.
      The rest of your statemens are likely to be correct.
      Since the imminent Grand Solar Minimum coincides with the minimum of the present AMO cycle, we have to expect a cooling of at least 0.5 degres in the next ten years.
      This will probably make these snowfalls in the Sahara more frequent in the coming years.

      So does that mean Russia,Japan,China and South Korea investing in Arctic Trade routes is a scam?
      If we are getting cooler then it means the sea route is full of ice and makes it unusable.
