Really enjoyed this video, David. I don’t remember seeing the ‘84 ones before, those are awesome! I definitely had/have some of the black bordered ones, and, as others have said, you could get those in packs. In fact, I’ve seen some sealed cases of ‘80’s Donruss that had a mix of wax boxes and a few boxes of these.
Hadn’t thought about these cards in a long time, though, thanks for sharing! And yes, love the sweet McGwire’s!
Thanks, Scott! Man, I’ve been rewatching the “30 For 30” of McGwire and Sosa - such a fun time in baseball after such a dismal time (the strike). Thanks for commenting, Scott!
Awesome cards and video Mr David Gonos. I remember the Jumbo Donruss cards used to come in a cello pack wrapper. I think it had 3 to 5 cards in a pack and it cost a little bit more than the regular pack of cards. The last ones you showed, I think they were a sample card of how the cards were going to look that year. Like a promo card given to the card dealers to show off. I might be wrong about that. Have a good Monday to you and ✌️ Mr David Gonos.
Wow! What a great memory! Thank you for sharing this, Robert! That’s cool you even knew one was a promo card!
Nice. I think you should get them autograph then slab them up.
Oh wow, I didn’t even think of that - these are perfect for autographs! Thanks, buddy!
I like how the 84 cards were better cut and centered than the 86 ones. When I get random bigger cards like those, I store them flat in the metal tins that I have from upper deck, when I got a few of the series 1 tins. They still slide around, but better than nothing.
Oh man, great point about centering! I didn’t even notice that! Good idea about using the tins. It would be cool to cut out styrofoam to fit the tins, but also fit the cards so they don’t slide around in there.
If I remember correctly, they were sold in "packs" with 3 cards inside. I remember seeing them in my LCS when I was a teenager.
Oh man, great memory! I found some packs on eBay! I might have to pick some up for a video!
I’ve got some unopened cases of ‘88 topps big. One day I’ll rip ‘em I think. I wouldn’t know how to protect any of the good cards anyway.
Yeah, tough to protect. Let us know what you get out of those packs!
We got some, not of these but they are cool. Clearly biggest issue is well how do you store them. We found some oversized fleer i believe early 90s i think 3 cards a pack had some legends in it as well. The oversize never caught on, hard to display and protect them. Fun video though i like the uniqueness of them
For storage, you can get big penny sleeves and toploaders, but then you also wonder, is it worth it at this point!?! Haha, thanks, Josh!
