I think it was intended from the get go to have the other way out as put of all the times that you kill yourself to get out of some situation this especially seems very deliberate with making you feel like you are in a situation where you feel suicide is the only answer. Which is insane at how effective it is at showing the mindset some people who kill themselves are in.
