Proud Lexus owner here! and I can say that nothing beats the quality build and long term performance of my 2005 ES330!!! Amazing
The ES model has always been a benchmark in reliability!
Glad I watched this video. I'm proud to say I did my own oil change on my ‘08. I'm trying to get her to 500k miles and am at 80k so I have a long while with her. Thanks again! 🎉
You’re welcome! I hope you make it to 500k and beyond!
The reason the whole oil filter cap comes off when you try to remove the drainbolt from it is because the torque specs weren't followed at a previous oil change. The drainbolt is only supposed to be about half as tight as the oil filter cap. Because you use the oil filter cap drainplug to tighten the oil filter cap, that's exactly what's causing the problem.
Oil filter cap = 18 ft.lbs.
Oil filter cap drainbolt = 10 ft.lbs.
A lot of mechanics never remove the drainbolt and that's fine if you prefer to do it that way. If you do then there is no reason to take off the drainbolt just to replace the smaller o-ring.
I would change the oil every 5,000 miles. If you're driving 90% or more highway miles then maybe 8,000 to 10,000 miles would be okay.
And the oil filter cap is only part of the housing. The base part is what the oil filter cap screws into.
You don't need tools to remove the o-ring

I'm giving you thumbs up anyway.
Do you need to fill the filter housing with oil after the new paper filter is installed?
@@batman.._ as a 2007 Lexus ls 460 owner who has already done a few oil changes (I bought it at 150k miles) you dont fill the oil filter with oil for this vehicle
It's actually 9.1 quarts
I just bought an 08 ls460 and I couldn’t believe it took that much lol.
Over engineered is a good thing keeps all the engine parts in good shape with regular oil changes 😎
mine called for 9.5qt but it was so high on the dipstick, wound up taking 4.5 to 5qt out for it to register at the highest point. my dipstick is in the back not the front of my 09
ty so much for these videos on the LS so appreciate it
You're welcome! I'm working on more LS videos!
Nice video. I have a 09 ls600hl. Looking forward to the 10,000 mile update. I would like to see how that oil held up.
Thanks! This was also a 10K oil change and the oil didn't look very black so I'm expecting similar results. I'll post an update in another 10K miles.
BTW, the LS600HL is sweet!!!
bro thats a high milage LS. I am glad to see this car runs! I just bought mine 2010 LS460 with 113k miles on it. What would you recomend to pay attention on to make my car able to run same milage as yours? Thank you.
By the way I have lots of lights on the dash related to ABS. The guy said I need ABS actuator. Might be you know what to do. As I understand it is a common problem for these cars
Just sold it this spring to my friend’s parents with 284k miles on it.
What I recommend:
Fix it when it breaks, and do preventative maintenance like changing out the fluids as recommended by Toyota.
The ABS module is a common failure on these. It needs to be replaced.
@@bennieaust thank you for the answer. Should i buy remanufactured ABS module?
@@ИльяЗолотухин that or a used one. A used one, and even a manufactured one, can fail, but if the cost is right I would consider either.
The plug on my housing is stripped and the 3/8 won't fit any suggestions on how to get it off
Since shooting this video I have bought this tool. It works great for the Toyota housing!

SuperTech is what I use too
Excellent choice! 👍
Thanks for the video man
Thanks for watching!
Did u only put 5qts in the car??? And I roll with mobile 1 full synthetic
No, capacity is roughly 9qts. I believe it is officially 9.1
@@bennieaust ok.thanks
Which filter do u use? Or does it not really matter if u change oil every 5k miles 👍
I liked WIX and Napa Gold in the description (they are the same), also you can never go wrong with an OEM Toyota filter.
I don’t know that you’d have any issues with any filter with 5k mile changes though.
Thx I have a fram 20k filter for this oil change then will go with Wix from now on 👌
@@HexicanLS460L you’re welcome!!
I have a 2009 ls460 with 200k mileage. The transmission fluid was never changed. Is it ok to drain and fill the transmission fluid?
Are you experiencing any transmission issues? If not you should be fine.
If it were mine I would definitely start serving it at the recommended intervals.
As long as there isn’t any problems beforehand you’ll be fine, I just changed my 06 gs trans fluid and did a drain and fill at 260k for probably the first time in a long time if ever
Does yours burn oil?
Very little. About 1oz every 1,000 miles. I never need to add oil between oil changes.
I highly recommend using 0W20 full synthetic oil. That is the best thing to reduce oil consumption.
@@bennieausttry some seafoam or b12 chemtool
i changed my oil, and i didn’t listen. tightened the filter housing so tight that i’m not leaking, i’m draining oil. i should’ve listened to you 🤦
Now you know for next time. 👍
How much oil did you add?
About 9qt. Technically I believe it supposed to be 9.1qt.
Details are in the description.
Cmon man….supertech lol.
Haven’t researched supertech oil I see.
286k miles, burns half a quart in 8k miles. Tell me I’m doing it wrong. :)
@@bennieaust literally any oil will work in a 460. And all Toyotas go 400k.
@@alexp5778sorry, I guess I misunderstood your first comment. I thought you didn’t approve of supertech oil in this thing. Guess we are on the same page!
