Ricky Davis: He thought LeBron James would be HIS SIDEKICK! The Career of Ricky Buckets | FPP

- He’s infamously known for his shot at his own basket in an attempt to get a triple double; he would routinely bust out 360 and between the legs dunks in games, and he never met a shot he didn’t like. Scoop Jackson compared him to Isaiah Rider, and like JR Rider, Ricky Davis had all the tools to be a great NBA player, but struggled with selfishness and immaturity early in his career. He played one year for the Iowa Hawkeyes before surprisingly declaring for the 1998 NBA draft, and even though few people around him felt he was ready, the Charlotte Hornets still made him a first round pick. He would barely see the floor and clash with Paul Silas during his first couple years, then would have an injury filled season with the Miami Heat. But he would break out as a Cleveland Cavalier in the early 2000s, playing alongside guys like Andre Miller, Darius Miles, Dajuan Wagner and Carlos Boozer. Ricky Davis was the man in Cleveland, until they drafted LeBron James, and he wasn’t willing to take a backseat, so his time there was over quickly. He would spend the next 4 seasons, gradually learning to accept a lesser role as a sixth man and complimentary scorer with the Boston Celtics alongside Paul Pierce. Then he would have a a brief but solid stretch with the Kevin Garnett led Minnesota Timberwolves. After this, he would play one decent season in Miami, filling in for an injured Dwyane Wade; but by 2010, he was out of the league, after a 12 year career. Ricky Davis could fly, and participated in the 2000 and 2004 Dunk Contests, he could turn games into dunk contests or explode for 40 points on any given night, but he didn’t care how many shots he was taking or how bad the shots were, and that’s why found himself bouncing around so many teams. But whether you loved him or hated him, Ricky Davis was one of the most exciting players of his generation.

Shooting at his own basket to try and get a rebound so he could get a triple double is one of the funniest moments in basketball history.
It really is.
Ikr😅
Dude really did that 😂😂
U mean the other teams basket 🤔
Wrong Rim Ricky
Jerry Sloan face (RIP) when Ricky D. Goes for the triple double in epic fashion 😯🤣🤣🤣
Aw man I didn't know Jerry Sloan died. I used to really follow basketball for years but feel off since my daughter was born. I thought I would have heard the news regardless.
Their attitude to be the man is what got him to the NBA. Pretty impossible to abandon that mindset as a young man.
If you make it to the league you're not a failure.
Bobby Phills was mad underrated
Would love to see Dajuan Wagner feature soon
Ricky Davis was fun to watch. Nothing but love for him. Such a happy player. Good vibes from him.
His in game dunks is wild
The sports research champ is back!!!!!!
An unadulterated beast in the research game. I say this all the time. Props to Forgoten Player Profiles!
Would love to see one on Anthony Peeler, he was a pretty solid player
I forgot all about that dude but he was a killer
I liked those black and blue cavs jerseys Davis played in and always thought he looked cool af in the Celtics jersey. One of my favorite 2k role players of all time
This was extremely well done (e.g., editing, narration) and gave a *RARE* positive slant on Davis’ career.
Stuntedgrowth did a video on him last week he had great potential but him shooting at his on basket to get a triple double is the 2nd funniest moment in nba history after when Tracy mcgrady kicked the ball in the crowd and someone throw the ball back and he kicked it again lol
Hahahaha! I forgot about that one.
The JR Smith of the 00's
JR is the JR of the 2000s
Nailed it!!
@@AmarukahnRight and JR was better and had a better career.
Definitely some similarities in highlight potential. J.r. Was a bit better imo. He offered more efficiency on offense and defense.
@@Amarukahnlol right jr came in the league like 03
The fact that he went Eastbay down 20 is wild 😂😂😂😂 (clip time 27 second mark)
my fav role player of 2000s!!!thank you !!!! next can be Josh Smith or Elton Brand!
Nice video on Ricky Davis. You should do one on Antoine Walker and Bobby Jackson.
Stunted Growth just did a video on him
Jus watched it
Davis was amazing on NBA live. He is just another in a long line of talents who didn’t have the right mentality.
I would love to see a Ben Gordon, Josh Smith or Gerald “Crash” Wallace video.
He did a Gerald Wallace video already.
@@lil_james1584 I didn’t know, I’ll check it out. Thank you for the info
He was a wild player when he was young, but none the less he was one of my favorite players to watch
Kevin Martin
Kings Legend.
Do jamal crawford, penny, Alan Houston Or Jameer Nelson
As the video went on... All I want to say is. This guy was playing mostly every game every season. Big ups. 🏀
Can’t remember if it was live 09 or 2K but he was unstoppable on it lol
Yup those Cleveland teams with him LeBron and Miles was awesome. NBA live 99 was my favorite all the way until 2005.
@@BrandonGavin_EDCI'm confused, LeBron wasn't in Live 99 lol
@@BrandonGavin_EDCyou in the wrong universe bro
@@trinidad510 it was 2 separate thoughts, I just liked that team.
@@Garf_malarf that team was fun to play on NBA live 04, of course I know LeBron did not go to the league until 2003, it was the same year I graduated high school. I watched him in high school.
That "oh shyt" dunk still incredible
I was confused at first, I thought he did a Ricky Davis video already and then I locked back at his catalog and realized it was Larry Hughes who he did. They're pretty much the same player
Love the videos bro, keep dropping them
Just found my new favorite UA-cam channel
I love this channel, im glad i was able to find it, nice work here brother! 😄
I jus watched a vid on stunted growth channel about him 😂 but you getting there my boy love your content
Your videos go hard bro!
ricky davis was jr smith b4 jr smith
Accurate.
indeed😊
Buggin jr would never do some of the shit ricky did lol
Ricky Davis was very delusional. Even before LeBron got there; sure Ricky Davis scored the most points in the 02-03 season, but the actual All Star Big Z was easily a superior player to him on the team. Especially, when considering the defensive side of the ball.
Your SG scoring is more important considering the Center is for defense and rebounding. If your best defender is the SG team in trouble.
@@damianpresha9833with a minor exception of the nuggets 😂
@@damianpresha9833 not at all
Carlos boozer
Carlos Boozer, destitute man's Karl Malone
Thank you 😊
Ricky Davis was fun to watch
I notice every time he get better and gets comfortable they ship him out nd mess up his flow and confidence
I always liked Davis because he played with And 1 real quick.
For anyone curious I believe that was Max Scherzers first season in Washington when the score ticker had him as the winning pitcher that moved his record to 8-5.
I played against Rickey like 5-6 years ago let me tell you bro was Cold and I played him years after retirement lol. He gave me a bucket in every spot on the court
Ricky Davis was ultra talented, and had all the tools to be a great player and wasn’t.
He was great size at 6’7 200lbs, had a 42’ vertical at his peak, could shoot the deep ball off screens or off the dribble, defend when he wanted to, and had the attitude to compete as well as showcase.
Ultra talented? That's a bit of a stretch
No a stretch he had all the skills and athletism mentality was his problem@@IllMatic97
@@IllMatic97lol😅
@@IllMatic97that’s talented wtf you talking about. Like you?
@@billblaski9523these mf’s smoke crack I swear anymore the future is doomed
21:43 Jarell Martin, forward defensive specialist from Grit n Grind squad sighting 😏
Horace Grant
The 3rd All Star on the Bulls first 3 peat. Dick Riders never mention him. But he was damn good. Eliminated the Bulls with MJ and Scotty in 95 playing PF for the Magic.
holy shiiit i remember this dude. wow. and then yes i forgot about him too. lol. but seriously, hes one of them players that makes you wonder "if he was in the right system". because as soon as i saw some of the highlights i remember a lot more of actually watching him. and i remember thinking how good this dude was. so i stand by it. if he was in a good system that he wanted to be in. his skills really make that a fun what if. he seriously was that skilled
I was at the "wrong basket" game. I was sitting above the Jazz bench. Stockton and Malone were there. And Mark Jackson became 2nd on the all time assist list at the time.
Sweet. Good video
He was J.R. Smith before J.R. Smith 😂😂
Man ricky e-rob and baron were a crazy trio in Charlotte for a second...I’m from Seattle...as a kid...For me to like a team from a slave state...you had to be super dope
I loved Davis when he was on the Celtics. Bro could hoop
Anybody that watched RD play knew his personality wouldn’t mesh with Lebron RD is a alpha and isn’t afraid to speak up, Lebron was giving the keys before playing a min in the nba, and that’s why they cleaned the team out
Looks like you watched "Stunted Growth" too, huh?
I love "Stunted Growth" and saw his video on Ricky Davis but FPP does a lot of videos that are not on the same subject as SG at the time. I love FPP as well. Just a coincidence this time.
I remember this dude. He was a trip
Dude was a bucket!!!
Lmao I was like in 7th or 8th grade i think, i remember the Cleveland years before Lebron, i was a fan of Ricky Davia and always thought he could be the next superstar, i remember telling my friends then "Yo look out for Ricky Davis, hes gonna be elite!" Lol and wanted a white Cavs 31 Davis jersey so bad😂😂
almost forgot about ricky davis. In my mind he and JR Smith was the same person
He had a solid career…
Love ur videos. Can u do me a favor. Can u add dates to the videos? And if the player plays somebody notable in college. U should say it.
Do J-Rich…Jason Richardson
One of the most ridiculous players of all time along with Rafer.
I first saw Ricky Davis on the And1 Mixtape Tour Vol. 7. Man could jump out the building! Such an entertaining player. Hope he saved his money 😁
From Las Vegas to Iowa? Christ.
Hey can you do one on Steve Francis
He had all the tools except brains. Smh. Imagine if he humbled himself with lebron. Smh.
I completely forgot about Ricky Davis. He was definitely a scorer unfortunately he never saw a shot he didn't like.
It didn't get as bad as what CC has had to deal with, but Bron had to deal with some negativity as a rookie as well. But he quickly squashed that mess and the rest is history and until he retires history is still being made.
Very athletic but very very selfish as well. At least he wasn't scared to shoot.
how come i was today years old haring the nickname "wrong rim ricky" omfg
Ricky Davis is kind of fascinating. He was a troll but also extremely talented at the same time. His career has a bit of a dark cloud over it but the guy could freaking play regardless of what mistakes he made to convince people otherwise and I always thought the wrong rimmed shot thing was overblown by everyone
He was like 18/4/5 in Minnesota.
If you were a baller in high school around 01-03, Ricky Davis was that dude
Ricky Avis from the nbas Timberwolves? Fantastic player
Offensively he was a dawg, I swear stunted growth just did something just like this but you're a little bit better
The Wally S trade has a favorable effect: he was used as the expiring contract for the Ray Allen trade
You gotta love wrong rim Ricky even if he's delusional he's very fun to watch especially on the cavs and wolves
LeBron already knew better after 1 season.
The teenager already had more sense than Davis .
Watching these vids and seeing guys averaging like 15-19 points is crazy thinking about harden averaging 30 plus. And those guys were number 2 and 3 options. Wonder what they’d average in today’s league?
Good job I have almost forgot about Ricky, I think you only missed the amount of each contract
he's actually really talented even for NBA standards. But his goal in the league is for fame and fortune, with winning being an afterthought. Could have had a different outlook if he were to play to day where nearly all the young players in the league have a chip as their primary goal
Davis was a solid 20 point player
22:10 Maine Red Claws (now Maine Celtics).
It was soppuse to be wagner , davis, labron , miles, and big z , insane how much talent can be wasted
A VERY FUN AND NICE GUY RICKY DAVIS!!!! HUMBLE CAT THEY. TRIPPIN
Now it’s normal to come to the nba before you’re ready. He was sorta lambasted by some places for doing what’s now normal. And I’d argue he’s was a lot more ready than most players coming up
I am surprised you forgot to mention that he is a part of famous hip hop duo Outkast 😂
Ricky Davis was from Iowa?🙃🤪
Davis was a lower BBIQ guy with a lot of athletic potential.
Lol, dude had a long NBA career, and they talking about him like he chopped liver, dude lived the dream.
You didnt think WHO was ready LMFAO Ricky that young man was ready in HS. RD pride was hurt but this is basketball and Ball dont lie
Stunted growth literally just did this story
The quote about Bron made it worst. All he worrying about is getting shots up instead of winning. He’s a bum. He stunted dajuan Wagner growth by hating on Bron.
imagine lebron & ricky davis😭
Ricky Davis was ultra talented, but he had all of the tools to be a great NBA player, but he didn’t live up to his expectations and potential. He was a high flying dunker who could play the game well. He was also the most influential player in the league.🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
He didn’t think Lebron was his sidekick. If he did then that triple double makes sense now.
If the Cavs would've still had Ricky Davis & checked his ego & also kept Dejuan Wagner when drafted LeBron & all three of the players could've worked together & became good teammates & maybe brothers as well & got the Cavs to the playoffs after LeBron second year in the NBA
Look like Wesley Matthews’s😂😂
The original JR Smith
In my Gucci mane voice .. who o you mean who?😂
Yes
A 21st pick would have a num 1 pick as his sidekick
Of course
Ricky Davis
