- Have you ever wanted to make your own clam chowder from clams you have harvested from the ocean? Learn how to locate, spot, and harvest these amazing shellfish.
Don't forget to bring a float, since these things get really heavy!!
Andrew, we have been freediving for these for years. This is a very good and thorough video! Thanks for sharing!
Just got 3 pismos yesterday afternoon down here in SD! 🤙🏼
Really interested in learning how to freedive and go to Cal Poly. So happy to have found your channel.
Looking to get some pismo clams at beaches or free diving. This video was really helpful, thanks!
+ScrixxAdventures Thanks! I hope you were successful!
hey what's the report so far? end up getting some, your limit?
+chimyshark oh i dont really care as much as would get me full how come other aninals get as much as they want if they do that then so can we but not like a truck full
Great vid Andrew! I am cleaning my limit of Pismos right now!
that is great i have speared there years ago got a lot of fish
Great work Andrew. Was looking for just this video about a year ago, surprising how little there is out there on Pismo diving. Especially compared to all the videos on harvesting them in tidal zones.
Thanks. I ran into the same stumbling block. The videos I could find did not really show me how to do it, specifically what do you look for. I figured I could make a video of how to, when Mantis Spearfishing offered to teach me how to.
Andrew Harmer Ditto. Lots on diving, minimal on what to look for. I'm going to have twist "Mantis Spearfishing's" arm for some 1 on 1 tutorial come lobster season.
Grant Neckermann He has lobster pretty dialed in.
Nice training vid. Thanks for the details.
Thanks for watching.
Great video and info man. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I see huge shells in Morro Bay so I know they are around and the otters are finding them,
They also dig up many of our geoducks too. I see huge pits underwater where otters have dug down 4 feet into the substrate for those things.
Excellent video.
Thanks!!
Loved your video! Great detail :)
Thanks. This might be a fun one to get you and Brent out in the water.
Good info. I just used the last bit of pismos in my freezer last week on chowder. I need to find a good bed up north.
Are you coming down this way for bugs at all?
Andrew Harmer I will make it down, that is for sure. Not definite on the date yet. I'll update you on the situation soon.
standish92k You going for dove this weekend?
where did you pick up that clam tool?.....great video!!!!
Nice job Andrew,
Thanks!
Awsome!!!!
Hey great video! Did you make that tool to dig out the clams out? Or can i find it online? Thanks
How the h3ll does one spear or gaff a clam?
let me guess, the clam spot is off Malibu or Ventura?
This was not filmed off either of those spots.
Nice. Doesn't sound like you. I probably got some of those in 1971. And for a few years after that....up to @ 1976.
They probably did not get yours in the 1971 count. I would imagine they were just counting people clamming on the beach at Pismo, not diving.
Don't they have to import clams now due to near-extinction from overharvesting?
Nope
i whould like to subcribe yur video
prak ponh Thanks. Just click on the subscribe button below my name.
See any sharks halibut or White Sea bass over there
No, not much of anything other than the clams. The vis was pretty nice, so after we dropped the clams off at the car we grabbed guns and scoured the sand for several hours. No fish seen, that I wanted to shoot.
what kind of little fish did you see
Some sanddabs, smelt, lizardfish, and some baby rockfish.
i hate lizards
I have caught big halibut on live lizards, so they have grown on me.
Those are big clams
too bad just the shells are so hard to find.
Next up, how to identify rockfish species?
I am working on that very project. I have some great footage, but still need to "land" a few more species.
