Oh WOW this looks good. You should try Venezuelan style hallacas sometime. The filling and masa have a hint of sweetness and are wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn husks
It's probably more expensive for how much you get, but if you can't get to a latino store you can usually find lard in the oil aisle of your standard Safeway/kroger/etc, usually top shelf by the crisco and oil

@@janicew9. My Gramma made these. She’s from Mexico. She always used beef tallow ( lard) I use lard too. Not sure what difference it makes.
