- I know have a deeper respect and understanding of and for anti-psychotics. They definitely work, but they are definitely brutal. I'm happy to have another tool in the kit for managing bipolar disorder and I honestly wish I had taken them sooner.
Check out the video for the short and long-term affects, how they worked for me, and other reactions!

Really interesting. Just wanted to add for anyone trying them, first month or two can be a MAJOR adjustment. I was sleeping like crazy, hungry as all hell, and felt kind of out of it. Fast forward to 4 years of taking a small dose of Antis daily, I feel a significant difference in my irritability, stamina, ability to sleep soundly. They have changed my life for the better. I finally feel like the version of myself I always knew I could be. The worst side effect for me has been the weight gain. After four years of prioritizing my brain health and I am finally ready to finally prioritize my body. The healing journey it is to get properly diagnosed and medicated is a long one but so worth it. I also up my dose when I’m feeling particularly out of line, but do thus VERY RARELY. I think it’s best to follow your doctors advice and believe them when they say it takes time!! It really does. Be patient with yourself and your doctors on your journey but always advocate for yourself. Sending love ❤
This is perfect. Thank you so much for adding this advice in and sharing this part of your story with us. The hunger was real as well! Your advice here is so sound, I agree with all of it! I really appreciate you and sending love back! 💙
I take a very minisscule dosage of an antipsychotic every night. Way under the "theraputic" level. I am very sensitive to medication, so a little usually goes a long way. It is 6.25mg seroquel, along with my other meds. I think this tiny amount on a daily basis helps with stability and sleep. I cut a 25mg pill into quarters. 😊
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am super sensitive to meds as well, which is why I was so hesitant. That may be another thing to consider in the future, quarters, not halves!
This is exactly what I do with Seroquel
The similarities are always surprising!!
I’m glad you mention your hesitance to taking another med. you and I are on the same daily med. My doctor also has me on a prn of olanzapine. The tablet is a 5 mg dose but he suggested i take half. I have probably taken it no more than 3 or 4 times a year and I only take it if I know I’m going to be heading in to some stressful situation, like going to the dentist (I have a diagnosed phobia - lucky me!) Knowing I have the olanzapine as a prn is sometimes enough to get me over the hump. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it - like a parachute. And no one wants to NEED to take meds. I’m glad you’ve set up this community of like-minded people. I feel heard.
Thank you! Wow, we are on exactly the same meds regiment then, the similarities can be uncanny. And it’s definitely a “pull if needed”, but nice to have just in case!
I appreciate you joining the community and sharing your wealth of knowledge, that’s what’s valuable!
I take olanzapine every day to treat my Schizoaffective disorder, and the first few days I couldn’t hold a conversation. But once I got past that, things got better! I wanted to give it a chance and I’m glad it did. I don’t have any of the daytime tiredness that a lot have, phew to that, but I do have some good old extrapyramidal symptoms aka unwanted muscle movements. But it saved my life. It saved me from my own personal heck. Like cannot express how grateful I am for that little pill. I went on it for mania and delusions and oh boy does it take care of that.
I’m glad it helped you, and I’m glad you don’t have to take it every day!
Thank you for adding in your perspective and experience Kit! And of course happy to hear it has worked so well and with limited (albeit very difficult) side effects.
I’m so lucky, honestly, that I only use them as a prn and major kudos to you for taking the plunge earlier and helping yourself out!
I wish I had started a bit earlier honestly. This is why everyone should go watch all of Kit’s videos!!!
