Sharing my story and those of others living with bipolar and severe mental illnesses to raise awareness and eliminate the very real and continued stigma. We provide examples of every day people shattering the stereotypes of what we look like and are capable of!
I lived undiagnosed for over 15 years and was suicidal for all of them; developing no life skills and living in near constant crisis. I am beyond lucky to have made it to my diagnosis of Bipolar II Disorder and want to make it easier for others to find resources, information, and comfort knowing they are not alone in this odyssey of finding stability living with bipolar.
My hope is that people find the correct diagnosis and support earlier than they would otherwise. Thank you all so very much for your support!

@ your advice came at the right time!
That’s awesome! I needed the reminder myself as usual 😂
I get really bad racing thoughts before bed, but I’ve found using EMDR techniques of tapping or eye movements gets rid of them. Don’t know if that’s legit or a placebo lolol but hey it works
Yes, I’ve been trying to do that more when I get stuck in the same thoughts. My therapist recommended it, so let’s go with legit. ☺️ Like you said whatever works tho!
If I just registered for my local NAMI chapter monthly support group, what are they likely to cover/offer in this group? I'm looking for better support than what I have and I'm starting there. I've been medicated long term, employed long term, so I'm a good candidate. What can you tell me since you mentioned in your videos you are familiar with NAMI? Thank you 😊
Local NAMI support groups are facilitated by people with lived experience and training to provide a safe space to share our experiences and what has worked best for us. We have a lot of other educational programs here as well. If you are doing relatively well (it’s all relative for me), I highly recommend volunteering for them; you can help a lot of people. Feel free to reach out on IG if you have more questions!
@@BenefitsofBipolar thank you!
Of course!
I agree with other commenter, December is rough. I backslid too, you're not alone. It near ruined my holiday. Although it's not fun, I'm use to it by now, and doing all I can to be responsible about it. 🩵🫡
Thank you for adding this in, we’re definitely not alone in this. Hang in there and sounds like you’ve got this! 💚
December is a VERY rough one!!
Yes it is!
That is why I'm so glad I found channels like yours, Kevin Hines is another. That I'm not alone in going through these symptoms!
I’m glad you’re here; it makes it better for me as well!
True.
It kinda sucks but true nonetheless. Thank you.
NEEDED THIS 😮
lol, so did I! Appreciate you
Love him ❤
Same! Thank you for watching!
My bipolar is so weatherly 😂❤
I had to read this twice and then found it absolutely amazing. Like this is a complete gem. Thank you! 💚
To anyone reading this: If you’re struggling with whether or not you should be on meds, know that there is nothing wrong with taking medication for something you didn’t choose to have, and if you don’t like them you can always change them or stop. ❤
💯‼️💯 This is beautifully said, thank you so much for adding it in! 💚
Bro I just got diagnosed (tentatively, could be comordid adhd). prescribed vraylar. I'm hoping it helps these symptoms for the first time in my life.
That’s good to get a diagnosis as hard as it can be and there are a lot of overlap between the two. Hang in there and I hope the meds help as well! Reach out anytime man!
That’s really cool.
Thank you! 💚
I’ve read that many mental disorders can be cured by diet, keto, avoid sugars and fixing your gut health. I’ve seen many testimonials and psychiatrists that have learned this are speaking out.
There is certainly a lot of promising data out there and I stick to the Mediterranean diet as much as possible and it helps a lot. There is a lot to consider when treating a serious mental illness and not all treatments work for ever, but there is a lot of hope. Thank you!
@ indeed. Interesting about the Med diet. I wish you well on your journey and stay well.
Thank you!
I soooo feel this. Ive been without a counselor and various meds for months. My previous provider is a nearly 2 hour drive from me. I live in a rural area and I'm having difficulty finding somone to help. Bipolar, Cptsd, anxiety, DID and borderline personality disorder.
Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear that. We hear about the rural access to healthcare or complete lack thereof. Hang in there and thank you so much for your vulnerability. This really drives home this issue and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with it, we have a lot of work to do.
@BenefitsofBipolar thanks for the uplifting reply. Much appreciated ☺️
Always, hang in there the best you can and reach out any time. 💚
Congrats you're socially acceptable drug dependent. Potheads dont envy you these days because so are they. Heavy alcocolics wish they could be you. Light daily drinkers think they are. Hard drug users should actually try to be. If you dont have any of those sorts of issues, maybe not taking pills and gaining the control of ones own mind and self awareness is actually possible if you try. Those that do have such issues, have even deeperbones to deal with first and may never make it out of the dark...... Sorry but I've lost people due to antipsychotic and psychotropic meds. Ifbit works I guess good for you, but should be a last resort after therapy and lifestyle changes.
I’m sorry for you losses. For me and many others, medication is the door that opens the possibility to the type of lifestyle changes of which you speak. I’ve been all of those people. I’ve done all of those things. These pills have saved my life and help treat a brain illness, I’ll take them every day as long as they have the effect of helping my brain work in the right way. Therapy has also been life saving and can help with all sorts of negative emotions we feel after ridiculously tough life events. Please hang in there. Also please refrain from telling people with a serious mental illness to take their medication. It will cost people lives. And please take care of yourself.
i take lamictal for borderline personality disorder and sometimes i forget a few days in a row and i wonder how i ever lived without it lol, my mood will change by the second
That’s what I take as well! It’s ridiculous honestly. I could just feel myself losing control by the minute as the day went on. Thank you so much for you honesty. We can commiserate together 😂
Truth! ❤Hope things are okay.
@@3decades3kids Thank you! Things have gotten a bit better, always a journey 🫶🏼
@ I’m so happy to hear that!! 🙌💕🙌I’m going to s-end you a pm with a name.
I have, I only take a mood stabilizer currently
@ I’m going to take this over to IG
that's a win!
💯💯
Man, I barely get 'basic performance ' most days 😔 Thank you for shedding some light on a mentally & physically draining disease. I wish you the best ~ 🍻
Whew, I hear you there a lot of times. And thank you so much for the best wishes and for the honesty, it allows me to feel heard and less alone as well! 🫶🏼
You so right..Glad I'm in remission now
Thank you and that’s so awesome to hear! Hang in there either way!
The best piece of advice I've gotten on this is to wake up two hours before you usually get up. And to actually get up, eat breakfast, get dressed, whatever your morning ritual is. You will perk up and go through the day without issues, but in the evening, you will become tired earlier than usual. Then it will be easier to go to bed earlier! :D
That’s definitely a good idea and worth a try! Unfortunately, I really have to prioritize getting sleep or can be at risk of a bigger episode, so it’s a delicate balance. I got up earlier the last two days, so here’s hoping! 🤞
❤ congrats, keep pushing past your comfort zone. Sucess is inevitable
Thank you, I really appreciate that. And hope so, and for you as well! 💚
Man I had very similar experiences. Stuck in restaurants because I would always quit and these jobs were easy to get. Substance issues. The inability to keep a job is what even tipped me off that I was most likely bipolar
Sorry to hear that man. But that’s incredible insight from you honestly. I knew something was wrong but was pretty delusional about how bad it was.
I hope you get well soon
Thank you, it’s getting a little better by the day. Really appreciate this.
I found out I have bipolar 3 months ago on a google meet. On lamotrigine, I'm scared, I'm 36, I don't feel like living would love to make a friend with bipolar to chat for 30 mins every week
Hang in there brother, you’re definitely not alone. I’ve been on Lamotrigine for 5 years tomorrow I believe. I’m 38, we’re definitely in this together. If you have IG reach out under the same name. 💚
Found out the hard way.
As is often the case, another reminder this week actually 😂
During one of my last episodes, I spent $600 on jewelry making supplies even though I had never made jewelry before in my life and then proceeded to make over 30 pieces within a couple days. I'm still paying it off on my CC. At least I learned a new skill!😂
You do have a new skill! I still have about $400 worth of t-shirts if you want one! 😂😂
@@BenefitsofBipolar 😆
Don’t over do it. -listen to your intuition. Good luck!
Thank you! I didn’t do it, not yet at least 😅
Melatonin helps me. I am manic right now… I feel ya! I work full time which helps me keep a normal schedule.. but had to take meds for anxiety twice today .. very minute dose. It was good anxiety but still made my chest tight & thoughts racing…fun fun.. hang in there! 😮 my psyche told me mania is detrimental to my health.. -I was diagnosed at 51. Then my past made a lot more sense. Ha! 🙏
Hang in there! I’m sorry you went so long without a diagnosis, that is one of the most brutal parts honestly. If it weren’t for my dreams, I’d definitely consider melatonin though. That’s awesome it works!
@@BenefitsofBipolar thanks a bunch! the psych also prescribed trazodone but I don’t like the side effects… concerning the dreams on melatonin / I’ve had crazy dreams my whole life -nothing diff -other than my poor husband has to hear about them.. haha thanks again!!
i attempted last week. ended up in the ER and now im in treatment, doing better. im so glad i came across this. if it weren't for my friends, i wouldn't be here. good luck to you on your journey! 💙
I’m so happy to hear you are still here and doing somewhat better. It’s a process and not one that is to be rushed. You have awesome friends it sounds like and the right outlook. Hang in there friend and best of luck to you as well. 💚
@@BenefitsofBipolar thanks so much man, that means a lot 💙
Wish you all the best
💚
Of course, I promise you it goes both ways. This interaction absolutely made my day, so thank you! 💯
I didn't know it could go so fast between phases, sounds really rough. Thanks for spreading awareness!
Yea, it’s super disorienting when it does. It’s been a lot easier to notice since some recovery, but it came out of no where this time like it used to. Thank you for watching and for the message, it’s truly appreciated!!
So hard
Yes it is 🫶🏼
My worries: will I get enough sleep not in my own bed. If my pills have to be in a hot car for a while are they still going to be effective?
Yes, the sleep one is always my biggest fear. That and forgetting my meds which fortunately I didnt! Hang in there friend!
Flying is great bro, I've been too like eight countries allready, it's a great experience, that's what life is all about exploring new places 😎✈️
I used to love it so much before my diagnosis, I’m just nervous for all the intangibles, but getting closer, so getting more excited! I appreciate you man!
DON’T LET NO DOCTOR GIVE YOU LABELS … EVERYBODY IN THIS WORLD 🌍 HAVE DIFFERENT MOODS, NO BIG DEAL, FLY HIGH & HAVE FUN .. YOU GOT THIS 💪🏽😎🫡 ✌🏽🤜🏽🦾
I'm bipolar.... I'm confused as to why you can't fly? This didn't make sense to be. Mood swings didn't affect me being able to sit in a airplane, or how I travel.
I’m not worried about the mood swings honestly. I’m more worried about a lack of sleep or anxiety building which could lead to hypomania. It’s a tendency when I travel regardless, so I’m just more aware of it going into this one. Forgive me for titles, gotta play along with the algorithm sometimes.
Don't let these people get to you they don't know you. I feel you man flying is always different and stressful
Thank you! I do truly appreciate you support. And no worries about the others, I’ve gotten through a lot more than some insecure folks hiding behind a keyboard😂 Seriously tho, it’s people like you that keep me going!
My dad is diagnosed with a few things including bipolar and autism, so the comfort items being gone, disruption of routine, and the general feeling of uneasiness as flying can be uncertain with delays and such are difficult to understand when you are neurotypical. I always find that as long as he can have some music it will work out (not without a few hiccups though and that's okay)
I really appreciate you sharing the story and the context. I just felt very relieved just reading your description. The music and podcasts are definitely what will get me through. Hiccups are okay, just gotta remember that. You’re an incredible ally and support for your Dad and the rest of us, thank you!
Big baby
For real, I'm bipolar but mood swings disorder doesn't effect how I travel...
That’s awesome man, just gotta remember some people are different. 🤷♂️
I prefer honest about my feelings and vulnerable to help others feel comfortable in their own lives. But whatever makes you feel better! 😂
🙄
🤷♂️
I see this less often when I speak to a lot more people than normal. Or when I’m just busy and doing a lot of things. Gives meme less time to think and remember all of the things I said/did in the past.
That is definitely one way of handling those thoughts and sometimes the only way. Therapy has helped a lot for me as well in this regard. Thank you!
Stay strong brotha ✊ I'm also struggling with hydration , too much coffee , I've been thinking of changing a few of my routines , gotta drink water for the meds and have exercise
That’s the struggle, in one comment, thank you for saying this. I’ve had to cut back so much on caffeine. The sacrifice is real,,, I appreciate your input greatly!
You got this man! 🫡
Thank you! And always!
@@BenefitsofBipolar Anytime!
You really turned that situation around!!
Thank you! Unfortunately it’s truly all we can do. Sometimes it’s does just take a little time tho!
Winning!!! You found the key to moving forward 🔑 Keep winning my friend
Thanks man! Always have to find a way somehow!
Hiiiiiii you are amazing
Hi! Thank you! 🙏🏼
I would tell them that i will neverr be able to think like they do or behave like they ask me to "just because this is the normal".. I don't do normal..please either accept me as i am or disown me. I can't be you, you can't be me.
That’s so fair and very well said. It can be really tough, I’ve had to have a lot of the same conversations. Hang in there friend.
What medication are you taking?
Lamotrigine, it definitely works for me!
@@BenefitsofBipolar thank you so much! I just had a meeting with a pyschiatrist thinking i had adhd but she told me she thinks its Bipolar 2 which through me off, so now im trying to do research
That’s so smart of you to do your research right away and take it in stride. I… did not, you’re so far ahead of the curve even if it doesn’t feel like that. There are a lot of overlapping symptoms as well. Hang in there friend and reach out any time!
@@BenefitsofBipolar i will admit it did make me frustrated because i felt like my life was over. I didnt know anything about bipolar 2 and that really scared me alot, so watching videos and doing research really helped me understand this 🫶
That’s exactly how I felt when at diagnosis. You are definitely not alone and we’ll get through it
We all understand bro! Everyone needs to take care of themselves and needs some time to do so! 💛 Sending positive vibes your way!
Thank you, I appreciate that greatly man. Hang in there as well! 💚
So proud of you bro! Do what you gotta do my friend. We’ll be here when you come back!!!
I appreciate you man! Always. I’ll be on and off, just can’t keep that consistent schedule I was on. Gotta keep that real income first, thank you for this though. It definitely helps man.
