i played this few years ago in belgium, jan van der roost was conducting too. it's really fun to play indeed and its not hard at all. really a piece to play for enjoyment :D
This is a great performance! And as others have pointed out, this music is so fun to play. One of my favourites. I've played it once, and conducted it once.
Oh god i'm a tuba player, And i was fortunate enough to be able to meet Jan Van der Roost And do a clinic with him and my high school ensemble. He is a truly amazing composer. We were the only clinic group that he didnt have to stop while playing to give us pointers. It was absolutely enthralling.
Elizabeth Shefferly I‘m playing it also right now with Jan Van der Roost .He has also written a piece for us name‘s Stepstones because of the 125th anniversary of our Harmonie Orchester .I come from Luxembourg
I remember playing this in HS for All-District Band. Rikidum is a very typical Jan van der Roost piece. Also played Puszta and one of his marches Arsenal.
i loved it... only thing i didn't like was that at the very beginning the flutes a little out of tune & kind of pushing tempo.. but other than that, it's gorgeous!
I agree with noprah in his analysis. However Van Der Roost's melodicism and capturing of of the grittiness or "dance style" of the genre is effective. If you view these movements as snap shots rather than movements with connected material, it is a beautiful piece. Movement #3 is quite lovely.
@countryrules64 My man!!! yea i play bass clarinet too and i love this piece. yea its is pretty easy, but my director likes to push the fourth movement ALOT. the faster it goes, the more fun it is, says he. oh well haha.
We played this one year for concert band and man, our director got nervous on the second movement and started conducting extraordinarily fast. It was horrendous D:
urg i was going to play this song but we got it a month before school ended so the next year we came back and the grade below that merges into the band was way worse than we were last year so now we arent playing it because our band director doesnt think they would be good enough. :(
yes, but I dont agree about this: ta - a, TA instead of ta-a-a-TA. dotted note should to sound different than triplet. slow a bit the speed if this cann help.
also at the beginning is good, played as written, but then its less good and you hear triplets (not tatata obviously, but tata-ta) even if not written.
eesh, looking back now i sure do come off a racist, sorry ppl anyway, man im finally getting the notes, the 4th movement is possibly the most fun, and not that difficult at all.
He's composed better. Although Roost is known for composing in clearly-delineated sections displaying sudden changes in mood, texture, and tempo, there is little thematic unity present in any of these movements. Throughout, Roost presents wonderful musical ideas but fails to develop any of them to their full potential.
ha well the only hispanic dude flute there, i think in total there are only 3 hispanic flutes in general, its like the asian students are trying to keep us down (no racism, just my 2 Cents lol)
really? how many of you guys are there? i only know two, Peter and Juan, Peters cool and i hate Juan lol btw im the Hispanic Flute so no confusion there ahahahaha
I played Rikudim as one of 400+ members brass band in Neerpelt, Belgium in 1987, I will never forget it ...

ta - a, TA
instead of ta-a-a-TA.
dotted note should to sound different than triplet.
slow a bit the speed if this cann help.
@Ramaz997 some people don't get satire
its cool but it was kinda tough though, i think it might be the toughest piece we have no?
@oddvidios What? >.
also at the beginning is good, played as written, but then its less good and you hear triplets (not tatata obviously, but tata-ta) even if not written.
how is written? the first part: quadruplets. but then I hear triplet....
senior bro, haha you?

eesh, looking back now i sure do come off a racist, sorry ppl
