Go to photos ->> edit ->> click on right top square ->> crop the pics to 2:3 and save.
And try adding the image in contact.
This will work 💯

First of all stop the mobile data access to contacts and phone in settings.
Settings -> Mobile data -> Untick the contacts and phone
And it will work correctly 💯✅
