1. American Requiem - lays the cards out on the table about the history of the country, bad ideas, good ideas, judgments. The racist judgment against her that no matter how skilled and qualified she is they will never accept her. 2. Blackbird - Paul McCartney wrote it for black women during civil rights movement 3. 16 Carriages - tells the story of her childhood sacrifice 4. Protector - dedicated to her daughter 5. My Rose - dedicated to her son 6. Smoke Hour with Willie Nelson introduces the “Outlaw Western Country” portion of the album and begins to shape almost like a movie. 7. Texas Hold Em - meets a man and tells him to lay his guard down and be vulnerable 8. Bodyguard - she reveals her possessiveness over him 9. Dolly P - Dolly Parton actually requested Beyoncé cover this 2 years prior to the album coming out 10. Jolene - Beyoncé reveals her indignation over a woman trying to mess with her happy marriage and family 11. Daughter - she fantasizes over the murder of Jolene and then begins mourning in a haunting Italian Opera 12. Spaghetti - a social criticism towards American nationalists who used to call Spaghetti westerns made in Italy, unAmerican despite them hiring American actors, so she surprises everyone with a country accent rap song as a way to say, this is still country…. 13. Alligator Tears - calls out peoples fake criticism and victimization. 14. Smoke Hour 2 Introduces the Modern Pop Country part of the album 15. Just For Fun 16. 2 Most Wanted 17. LEVII JEANS 18. Flamenco 19. The Linda Martell Show - forewarns us that Beyoncé is warmed up and about to start doing what she does best, which is genre bending to perfection to create unique art. Let’s us know the rest of the album is for fun. 20. Yaya - displays historic successful fusion of genres that created rock 21. Oh Louisiana - Let’s us know that her Louisiana roots are what educate her musical choices Experimental Genre bending: 22. Desert Eagle 23. Riverdance 24. 2 Hands 2 Heaven 25. Tyrant 26. One of the very very few albums in my lifetime that When I listen to it I have to enjoy it from beginning to end. Non stop all they way thru. It is cleverly crafted. So many hidden surprises all the way thru. What surprises me is someone recently noted that the very first opening chord on American Requiem, comes from the sitar, and may very well be a tribute to one of Beyonce's favorite artists- Prince. Not sure, but with Beyonce anything is possible. The laundry list of surprise guests artists on this album is mind blowing.
The album is a masterpiece! The opening is amazing. I was surprised at how I love American Requiem! Tyrant and Sweet Honey Buckin, II Hands II Heaven, Ya Ya, Protector!!!!! It’s great!
Beyonce is so talented cowboy carter is her best body of work since lemonade her artisty is so undeniable this album has been so healing, and fun!! All hail the queens long may she reigns🐝❤.
I love what Smokey said!! You can’t argue with a legend like that cosigning another legend. This is AOTY easilyyyy. Nothing better will be released. Now I see why Jay-Z laid down the gauntlet bcuz DAYUM, Cowboy Carter is a Revolutionary Masterpiece!!!
You absolutely nailed it!! I've always liked a song ir 2 ,here & there of Beyoncé over the years , but with these last 2 albums I've become all in with Beyoncé's musical journey. 🔥🔥🔥
SHE IS A HIGHLY INTELLIGENT BLACK WOMAN,BEAUTIFUL, BORN IN TEXAS AND MAKING HISTORY. BLACK WOMEN HAVE DONE A LOT FOR AMERICA AND STILL DOING GREAT THINGS FOR AMERICA!!! I SALUTE THEM.
Beyonces album breakdown How country used to be: Folk story telling: 1. Acoustic Country 2. Outlaw Western Country Modern country: 3. Pop Country Future Country: 4. Bey Country (genreless fusions)
She’s a clever girl and we’re here for the genius that is Beyoncé. No one compares because no one combines research, history and artistry and puts it into an album that is so historically groundbreaking. Beyoncé is securing a legacy she’s not just putting out music we’ll forget about tomorrow
I think Beyoncé knows that even the all time greatest music artists don’t stay at the top forever so it would a complete waste of her time and energy to continue to compete against all of the new generation artists to remain at the top. The best thing she can do is secure her own legacy and leave her mark on music history. She is the music icon that inspires the new generation music icons, just like the music icons (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Prince, ect…) who had been an inspiration to her. She’s going to cement her legacy as one of the GOATS in music history!
Yes, yes and more YES! THIS ALBUM is Beyoncé's Magnus Opus! Bow down! Everything is top tier, world class, immaculate, innovative and pure ART. GO BEYONCÉ GO!
Record of the Year once again. She's had three albums that were the record of the year in my opinion the include: Lemonade, I am Sacha Fierce, and now Cowboy Carter Act II.
I predict that Taylor would win yet another AOTY and she might “Kanye West) herself during her speech, by saying that Beyonce made one of the best albums of all time and Beyonce would clap and cheer for Taylor the audience! That would be fun to watch!
My Favorites: Texas Hold ‘em(pony-up remix) Spaghetti 16 Carriages Jolene Bodyguard ll Most Wanted Ya Ya Blackbird Tyrant I love them all, but those are a few of my most favorite.
I love this album, its like she created a new genre of music by blending country & house, although the album's purpose is breakdown the barriers that separate the genre's!
I absolutely love this album, what I don’t love is that because she’s become a kind of cultural zeitgeist go to during her early career as the embodiment of the perfect racial cross over artist and also being referenced in media as the ultimate it kind of overshadowed everything she does and people put this overrated stamp on her but in actual fact she’s quite underrated. I’ve been a fan since destiny’s child and said to loads of people watch out for Beyonce she’s gonna be huge, whilst I do have favouritism bias to a degree, I get certain critiques that the beyhive (of which I’m included) would see as something to attack, what I’d prefer from the Beyhive is to not do what the counter reactive folk do and just fall for headline bate. Some misleading articles do have headlines that you can look at in so many ways causing reactionary comments without reading further. All that comment culture nonsense aside that would rip you apart rather than being uplifting, I just wanna dance!!!
There are great four songs on that album American Requiem, Bodyguard Yaya and Riverdance but there are also many skips imo like Jolene, Protector, 2Hands2Iheaven, AllogatorTears, Spahhetti, Daughter, Sweet Honey Bucking and all those interludes. Even the 16 C and Texas Hold’Em aren’t songs I care to listen on repeat. Her Jolene cover is vocally boring and there are too many interludes on the album making it hard to know what the real songs are. It’s a very well crafted and well researched album but I’m sure the hype wouldn’t be near as intense had the exact same album be released by another black female entertainer. So much of it is marketing.
This album demands an honest introspection of exactly what you said. Genre: why are there genres, what is it exactly, who gets to define it, and how is it enforced? Or in this case - can there be a personal and social requiem?
This album is meant to serve as a musical education of the African Americans historic place w/in Country music, which would sound like Irish Folk (great in It's own right, mind you) if it weren't for the Blues & Gospel of the enslaved Africans. This includes the BANJO, which was created by enslaved Africans in the Caribbean then, later brought to The States. Yes, the banjo wasn't created by the Appalachians but by Africans. I could also go into the Black artists that many of the earlier big name white country artists learned from then portrayed as their style.... as it was with Elvis and Black artists like Roy Hamilton, Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe - The Godmother of Rock & Roll), but it would take awhile. ;) Beyonce adds a bit of those artists work into this album as well. Her last few projects have been a meld of grand musical production, a mosaic of Black History and how the two interconnect. It appears that Beyonce is in a period of the Reclamation and Rejoicing of African American Culture, trying to correct the record due to the erasure and gate keeping whilst also trying to push The Culture forward in Unity, Knowledge and Beautiful Experiences and Conversations. 😎 It's what she's become known for. The Superficial and surface level won't fully appreciate this album over the more curious and expansive minded.
At the end of each day Beyonce Giselle Knowles Carter can do whatever the hell she wants to and she does. All hail the Queen 👑🐝🐝🐝
❤❤❤❤

Yes. That's why I don't understand why she reduced herself to a Troll.

I love Sterling K. Brown. Yes! Buckin! 😊❤
Masterpiece it took me back to songs that I sung in the sixties while keeping me in the present ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Meanwhile we all know what’s going down at the next Grammy Awards.

Its the visuals for daughter that I'm dying to see. Wacked jolene and played a damsel in distress luring the man to wack him too 😮
Not really a fan of Beyoncé or country music in general but hey good for her that she's doing her I guess.
🏃🏾♀️🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝welcome❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
Who isn't? Well, anyone with taste isn't.
Im not feeling the album. A couple songs are good. One of them's a cover of a Beatles song. Not country at all, but I do like it.

Apparently, you, given you’re here commenting on Graeme’s video. 🤷🏾♂️🤭
OVERRATED OVEREXPOSED AND OVERBLOWN
😂😂😂😂😂
Buy J Cole's Album instead 👍
What a joke nothing country about her. Hahahaha😂
This album is *overrated*
Not, it’s a lot of subconscious thinking going on here. Even tho she samples and is inspired by others.
