    Also important is for the loop you make to be 14 or 15 frames as u said. Aaton magazines are particular about their loops. What I do is mark the centre frame of my loop with a marker and make sure that is in the middle before I hook the magazine onto the camera itself

    2:11 You have to do all of this in complete dark or use a changing back. Wow! Those were the days. Lot of Memories.

      only the first side needs to be done in darkness? the second take up side can be in the light?

    • @arthurwoo
      @arthurwoo  2 роки тому

      The second side can be done in the light but any of the film you pull over will be exposed and not usable. Once you get it in place, then shut the door, and film from there.

    Good video BUT.......on the take up side Put the core in the other way around better so the notch on the core angles the other way.......then bend the tip of the film so it creates like a hook for you to place inside the notch.....then apply saliva to the emulsion in order for it to stick as it rolls for another level of security.....the way you are doing it will be more likely for the film maybe maybe to fly off......

    why we need to keep it slack and leave 15 frames on the Take up side? what would happen if it is too tight?

    This is great Arthur. Thanks for making this video. BTW - looking at finding someone to service an XTR and other S16 cameras. Any ideas where I can look? I've been unsuccessful and finding anyone in NA or Europe.

      Thanks, glad you found it helpful! As for XTR service - try getting in touch with Abelcine LA, or Du-All Camera in NYC.

      Kinda late but you might check Danny @ cinefacilities.com (Netherlands) - He did a good job restoring our aaton and you dont have to fight the cam overseas

    Hey Arthur, I just picked up a LTR 54, are the magazines the safe loading process for the XTR?

    • @arthurwoo
      @arthurwoo  4 роки тому

      Hey Cale, not sure about that. The magazine looks similar from a Google search. Might be best to run it by a technician if you can

    hey very helpful video! can i load kodak 100ft daylight reels in the mag?

  • @KurtCollins

    One you load the film in a tent and close the door. Is it okay to be in the light while feeding the take up side? Is that the purpose of the 2 sides?

      I'm looking at an Aaton LTR-X super 16mm but I've only ever shot on Arriflex 16s

      For this particular camera - Aaton XTR Prod (not sure of others), you can be in the light while adjusting the film on the take up side. Any film that is exposed to the light while seating the film on the take up side will already be exposed and unusable (it's also past the gate anyway so there will be no footage on it). Once the door on the take up side is closed, it should stay closed after filming, and then unloaded back into a canister in a tent in darkness.
