Bought 12’ g56 w/ SB clutch & I hate it! Clutch engaged its “NOISY” clatter & hard shifts! 2nd gear is really difficult to engage & usually got to hit 1st then into second but got me wondering if throw out bearings coming out or going bad but tech from SB says could be nylon piece in between clutch plate could came apart or loosened which I’ve never had apart or worked on one their clutches but can’t be right. Your opinion would be appreciated. Blind diagnoses is difficult but……… Shifts nothing like my ok wore out ZF behind 7.3
i haven't driven any 2 G56 trucks that feel the same. first thing i would check for the shifting issue is make sure its disengaging all the way. jack up the rear and see if you can spin the driveshaft with the truck in gear and clutch petal pushed in. change the fluid. mine was hard to shift. swapped to amsoil and it got alot better. as for the noise throwout bearings will only make noise when clutch is disengaged cause that's when there is pressure on it. if its a "quiet" clutch there are plastic pieces that dampen the noise but they can still be noisy. G56 like to be above 1500 rpm and live for a long time above 2000. they make alot of gear roll over noise below 1500 and dont like to be lugged.
I took mine apart to fill with new transmiss fluid, but I had it in gear not in neutral abs now after putting back together when I shift into gear truck doesn't move.
How is it? Would you still recommend it? I have a 06 5.9 and man the throws feel extremely long. I just dont wanna lose the easy of driveability since mine has no issues going into gear
A fantastic review made by someone with a brain that speaks normally and intelligibly. A rare find in the diesel community these days! Thank you!
Thank you!
funny ass comment
@@henrylynn3777he said what we were all thinking 😂
I have a 2018 ram 3500 single rear wheel G 56. So this was very helpful.😃
Must have been one of the last available real trucks with manual trans ? I am not aware of any that do now, what a shame
He has replaced the clutch already
I have been so tempted to buy one of these shifters for mine, I think I might have to do it now

Great job man.
Would love an update, how is it now, still enjoy it after 11 months?
11 months and almost 20k later i still enjoy it and it has broken in some
How many quarts did you end up putting in with the hotshots oil?
1 quart over factory fill. check out that video ua-cam.com/video/SqvfVhPb_xA/v-deo.html

i would pull the shifter back off. make sure all the shift forks look good and then re install it in neural
When the shift tower is in neutral, does it just easily lift off the top of the transmission?
yes. the 4 bolts are the only thing that holds it on. it may get stuck on the alignment dowels ore the sealant though.

i still enjoy having it. due to the geometry of the shifter its going to be a little tough by nature but it does break in and you get used to it
Do you know where I can find those dowels that need to be transferred over?
i do not know the size off the top of my head but im sure mc master carr may have something equivalent

Well Done
How’s the gender neutral fluid working out
Would you sell me your old shifter that you took off?
long gone sorry
